  • Longines - Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe

Sunday 4 October 2015, the ten thousands of spectators gathered in the enclosure have been holding their breath until Golden Horn and Lanfranco Dettori were the first across the finish line to carry off the 2,400-metre Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. For the fifth consecutive year, Longines had the privilege to measure the performances of the best international jockeys and horses that have been competing against each other on the prestigious Longchamp racecourse.

The Swiss watch brand was also presenting an international Group 1 race, the Prix de l'Opera Longines. This elegant 2000 meter race reserved for thoroughbred fillies and mares aged three years or older was won by Covert Love ridden by Patrick Joseph Smullen.

This unmissable rendezvous of the flat racing season is the perfect occasion for Longines to present the Official Watch of the event, a chronograph in steel from the Conquest Classic Moonphase collection. With a diameter of 42 mm, this model houses a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement. Its silvered dial makes an elegantly contrasting background to the moonphase display.

Involved in equestrian sports for more than a century, Longines is proud to support this prestigious event as the Official Partner and Timekeeper. This week-end will be filled with tradition, elegance and performance, values that are shared by both these high-level races and the Swiss watch brand.

In the context of its partnership with France Galop, Longines is the Official Timekeeper of the racecourses of Chantilly, Deauville and Longchamp, as well as the Title Partner of the Prix de Diane Longines. The Swiss watch brand is also partner of the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club.

  • Longines - Longines Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships 2015

The jury of the Longines Prize for Elegance brought together Bruno Grandi, FIG President, Magdalena Brzeska, 26-time German Champion in rhythmic gymnastics, Rainer Eckert, Brand Manager Longines Germany, and Walter von Känel, President of Longines. The basis for evaluating, judging and awarding the Prize included emotional appeal extending beyond technical considerations to beauty and femininity, grace and harmony of movement, and above all, elegance.

Set up in 1997, the Longines Prize for Elegance takes the form of a trophy representing a gymnast in movement created especially for Longines by the Swiss artist Jean-Pierre Gerber. In addition, the winner received an elegant Longines timepiece and a cheque. Besides, the Official Watch of the 34th Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships was a lady model of the Longines DolceVita collection, cased in steel, decorated with diamonds and featuring a silver-coloured "flinque" dial adorned with painted Roman numerals. This timepiece represents contemporary elegance of the Longines watchmaking brand worldwide. It perfectly illustrated the elegance of this world class competition.

Yana Kudryavtseva clinched the World Championships all-around title for the third year in a row. She also captured three gold medals in individual ribbon, ball and clubs, as well as the team title with her Russian compatriots Margarita Mamun and Aleksandra Soldatova. Famous for her ball-spinning tricks as well as her spectacular ribbon routines, she demonstrated once again that she is one of the best rhythmic gymnasts of her generation.

Longines first became involved in gymnastics in 1912, when it launched an innovative electro-mechanical timing system. For over twenty years the brand has been the official partner and timekeeper for artistic and rhythmic gymnastics competitions organized by the International Gymnastics Federation. At these events, Longines provides the necessary infrastructure and personnel for calculating times, presenting scores, processing data (start lists, results, and medals) and displaying it on the results screens, on the commentators' information system as well as transmitting it to the television companies that are covering the competitions.

  • Longines - Longines times the triple crown of thoroughbred racing

The 140th Kentucky Derby was held this past weekend in Louisville, KY, and kicked off the first in the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing. Right there through it all - the entire Kentucky Derby weekend and for the upcoming races - is Longines. In fact, Longines is the Official Watch and Timekeeper of the   Kentucky Derby, the Entitlement Partner of the Longines Kentucky Oaks 140 that is the races and festivities that take place the day before the Derby, and the Official Watch and Timekeeper of the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes (the upcoming two legs of the Triple Crown).

The brand's role in equestrian sports dates back to the late 1800s when it created its first chronograph movement, which later appeared on racetracks to time performances and races to the seconds. In the early 1900's Longines began its show jumping involvement and then moved on to flat racing and endurance competitions -- where precision is everything.

The Kentucky Derby represents the epitome of thoroughbred racing and Longines provided its guests with access not only to the Turf Club for prime viewing of the two days of races, but also with attendance to the incredible Taste of Derby event (wherein chefs from across the USA are flown in to demonstrate their skills and offer a taste of their most special dishes), to the Winner's Party (thrown after the Derby with the owners, trainer and jockey of the winning horse present), and with an exclusive tour of the paddocks. In all, the event is a breathtaking experience not to be missed.

In evidence of its support of the Kentucky Derby, Longines' overwhelming presence could be seen everywhere at Churchill Downs thanks to free-standing clocks, a digital Longines Kentucky Derby Countdown Clock on the Churchill Downs' track and more (the same will hold true at the two upcoming races). Additionally, the brand hosted a fashion show on the Kentucky Oaks Day, and presented the winner with a Conquest watch. On Derby Day, the brand presented Conquest watches to the owner, trainer and jockey of the wining horse, California Chrome.

This new instrument is based on a model brought out in 1963 which was intended essentially for medical use. The new product not only shows the time but also measures heart rate and respiration. While the pulse and respiration scales can be extremely useful in a sports context, during training sessions for example, they also provide a doctor with valuable information as to the patient's vital functions.

The red heart rate scale and the blue respiration scale can be easily read off from the outer edge of the silvered dial. The 12 numeral and the eight gilded applied indices blend with the hands and the counter circles, which are also gold-plated. The steel case, which has a diameter of 38.50 mm like the original model, is enhanced by the bevelling of the horns. A black alligator strap adds the final touch to this doctor's watch.

The Swiss watch brand and Capannelle have revealed their partnership on October 20th during an event at the Palazzo Wedekind in the center of Rome. The elegant model The Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph was the official watch of the event.

In the warmth of the roman autumn, the racecourse of Capannelle welcomed the Grand Prix Longines Lydia Tesio this Sunday. • Longines - On the look out for future tennis champions

Sixteen children from all around the world will be playing in a mini-tournament leading up to an exciting mixed doubles final involving Gustavo Kuerten and Mary Pierce, who both won the French Open ten years ago. After this event, Longines will be continuing its support for disadvantaged children through its sponsorship of the charity foundations set up by Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf, two of the brand's ambassadors of elegance. Finally, at a gala dinner a representative of the famous Swiss watch company will have the singular honour of presenting the Longines Prize for Elegance to a sportsperson whose commitment to helping those in need deserves recognition.

Longines has chosen to look to the future at Roland Garros this year by focusing on young tennis talent. In order to promote sport, respect for others, fair play and tolerance that the sport entails, the Swiss watch manufacturer will be hoping to find the tennis champions of tomorrow. In line with its slogan "Elegance is an attitude", Longines has become more and more involved in elegance in sport by supporting, as a first step, the charity foundations set up by Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf, who are among its ambassadors of elegance. This year Longines will again be sponsoring the Andre Agassi Foundation and Children for Tomorrow, but also wants to help discover new young talent in the field of tennis by sponsoring promising players in the long term.

Longines will be inviting 16 children (8 boys and 8 girls between the ages of 10 and 12) from all around the world to come to Paris. Having been selected in their own countries on the basis of their tennis skills, these young hopefuls will play mixed doubles in a mini-tournament based on tie-break scoring. The children will be coached by Mansour Bahrami, who set up the Legends Trophy, as well as by Agnieszka Radwanska and Tsung-Hua Yang, who are also among Longines' ambassadors of elegance. The two winners of the tournament will then team up with Gustavo Kuerten and Mary Pierce for a show final that will take place on Saturday, 5 June 2010, on court no. 7. This match will give the children an opportunity to play alongside two tennis legends and to gain immeasurable experience: Gustavo Kuerten and Mary Pierce won the French Open ten years ago, walking away with the Musketeers Cup and the Suzanne Lenglen Trophy respectively. To reward and support the young victors, Longines will be offering them an annual stipend until they are 16 to help them to develop their tennis career. After the final, Longines will also be donating a cheque for $100'000 to the foundations set up by Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf, which will be presented personally to two children from the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy in Las Vegas.

At the gala dinner on the Saturday of the weekend when the finals are held, Longines will have the honour of presenting an award to a sportsperson whose commitment to helping the needy deserves recognition. In awarding the Longines Prize for Elegance, the Swiss watch manufacturer will be paying tribute to a tennis player who has demonstrated true elegance in his or her heart.

Finally, Longines will also be taking advantage of the occasion to launch its Longines Admiral Chronograph Ceramic. The face of this magnificent self-winding, mechanical chronograph is surrounded by a black ceramic bezel and is a perfect example of beauty combined with performance. Longines' latest model in its line of elegant sports watches is mounted on a stainless steel bracelet whose central links are also in ceramic.

  • Longines - PrimaLuna, a new star in the Longines galaxy

A silvery moon on a spring night; a star that glistens reaches its peak and then disappears. A symbol of passing time, living time and the moon that entrances us with its rounded, delicate lines the new Longines PrimaLuna is a tribute to this silvery star. Its soft silhouette is enhanced by the exquisite purity of the dial and the whole is illuminated by a play of sparkling diamonds. Graceful, magical, this is a model that will seduce women who appreciate contemporary, sophisticated elegance.
The Moon has been used to measure time by every civilisation; this night star is feminine, cyclical and eternal. A star that produces dreams! In many cultures the New Moon is a symbol of renewal when it marks the beginning of a new year or the arrival of spring. To pay tribute to this mystical star, the famous Saint-Imier watchmaker is launching an exquisitely fine interpretation of the magic of the Moon this year: the Longines PrimaLuna.

The subtle mystery of spring, the Longines PrimaLuna emerges from a wakening world. The Moon is no longer pale but iridescent, opaline, masterful. Sheherazade moves elegantly into position under the stars...
The delicate gleam of stainless steel, the rich hue of rose or yellow gold, or the blend of rose gold and steel. A sleek bracelet of steel, gold or steel and rose gold or a leather strap. A selection of heavenly dials: white, silvered or mother-of-pearl decorated with hour symbols, Arabic or Roman numerals or diamonds. And finally, three hands, blued, gilded or rose, that marks the passing of time. As multifaceted as the modern woman, the Longines PrimaLuna range offers a selection of models in four sizes.
This ladies' watch is at the same time a piece of jewellery. The pleasing curves of the case are enhanced by a play of diamonds. Precious pieces of pure carbon that glitter with fascination... so feminine! Similarly, the white mother-of-pearl dials of the most sophisticated models are also decorated with sparkling teardrops that will seduce any woman who appreciates diamonds.

Resolutely elegant, contemporary, subtle and carefree. The new Longines PrimaLuna offers to every woman, every modern Sheherazade, to each luminous, unique female a magical world represented by this new collection of exquisite models.
Based in St. Imier in Switzerland since 1832, the watchmaker Longines can look back on more than 175 years of non-stop craftsmanship, as well as a solid heritage as timekeeper for world championships in various sports and collaborator with different international sports federations. Known for the elegance of its timepieces, Longines is a member of the Swatch Group Ltd, the World's leading manufacturer of horological products. With the winged hourglass as its emblem, the brand has outlets in over 130 countries.

This award decorates the athlete having demonstrated the most remarkable elegance in the course of an international competition at world level. Prize winner Anna Bessonova was honoured with a trophy created by the Swiss artist Jean-Pierre Gerber, a Conquest watch from the Longines Sport Collection and a cheque for US$ 5,000. In gymnastics, the challenge of movement not only demands flawless execution, but also intangible grace, beauty and harmony known as "elegance". At the 29th Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships, all participants in the individual all-around finals held on Friday September 11, 2009 were nominated for the Longines Prize for Elegance.
The athletes under consideration for the prize are evaluated according to a number of complementary criteria. In addition to technical considerations, each athlete's performance is judged with respect to emotional appeal, beauty, charm, charisma as well as grace and harmony of movement. Clearly, each juror interprets these criteria individually, yet the result is often unanimous, as it was again on this occasion.

The jury of the Longines Prize for Elegance brought together Dr. Bruno Grandi, President of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), Mrs. Eriko Hayashi (Hayashi Tokeiho), Minoru Amano, Brand Manager for Longines Japan and Juan-Carlos Capelli, Head of International Marketing, Longines. The jury's individual assessments were combined to form a collective judgment reflecting a perceptive and balanced evaluation of the athletes' performances.
    Anna Bessonova
Anna Bessonova's elegance is bewitching. Her grace wins the favour of any public. Her technique speaks for itself. At the 2005 world championships in Baku, Anna lined her nest with a world title, for the first time in her prestigious career. Anna Bessonova is definitely one of the brightest stars of Rhythmic Gymnastics today.
Anna Bessonova has a reputation for elegant and graceful performance, which led Longines' Head of International Marketing, Juan-Carlos Capelli to comment: "With her fluidity and harmony, Anna is simply the definition of elegance."
