Longines is now the Official Watch of the resort of St. Moritz, which is renowned worldwide as the epitome of elegance, a value dear to the Swiss watch brand. The spectacular ski resort hosts FIS Alpine World Ski Championships and World Cup stages all timed by Longines. It is also avenue for stylish equestrian events, such as the Longines CSI St. Moritz or the Night Turf St. Moritz and its Longines Show-Sprint Race. To celebrate this new partnership, the winged hourglass brand is launching an exclusive edition created especially for St. Moritz: the Conquest 1/100th St. Moritz. Touches of yellow and blue on the hands, the dial or the flange subtly hint at the iconic logo of St. Moritz, which is also engraved on the case back.

The Conquest 1/100th series responds to the needs of athletes, professionals and sports fans, besides many others, since it measures multiple intermediary times and has an intuitive analogue display that shows the time to one hundredth of a second using a separate hand. All of this is possible thanks to a latest generation movement.

The demands required for Longines to reach such an extreme level of precision have led to the development of a new quartz movement, the L440, developed exclusively for Longines by the manufacture ETA. This new model includes a microcontroller with a flash memory that allows the watch to be reset instantly and allows intermediary times to be recorded. With a diameter of 41 mm, this steel model has a silver face that displays hours, minutes, small seconds at 6 o'clock, the date and other chronographic functions: a central seconds hand, a 30-minute stopwatch at 2 o'clock and a 12-hour stopwatch at 10 o'clock. The hand in yellow displays time to one hundredth of a second and is the watch's crowning glory at the centre. The model is also fitted with a steel bracelet and a butterfly clasp.

On Thursday December 3 2015 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the 19th International Symposium of Watch Marketing (Journee Internationale du Marketing Horloger JIMH) will address this unique subject under the appealing title of « Les vies multiples d'une montre (pre-owned watches) ».
The annual meeting of the professionals from the watch industry will focus its attention on a growing parallel market whose annual income is estimated at more than 10 billion Swiss francs. Speakers will talk about distribution networks, behavior of watch aficionados, attention given by the brands or even the position of auction companies.

During the 46^th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, which took place in Glasgow from 23 October to 1^st November 2015, Longines had the honour of awarding the Longines Prize for Elegance to Longines Ambassador of Elegance Giulia Steingruber (Switzerland) and Max Whitlock (Great Britain).

Set up in 1997, this prize is aimed at honouring the most elegant and charismatic sportswomen and men. Apart from purely technical considerations, the criteria applied by the jury are based on harmonious movement, emotion and, above all, elegance during the performances. The new season of the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Western European League began in Oslo this weekend. The Prix de Diane Longines, the world's top race for fillies, offered last week-end a spectacular sporting rendezvous at the Chantilly racecourse. Lanfranco Dettori on Star of Seville won the coveted title of this top-level flat race day in front of more than 45'000 spectators.

As the Official Partner of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), Longines was the Official Timekeeper for the 45th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, held in Nanning, China. Longines first became involved in gymnastics in 1912, when it launched an innovative electro-mechanical timing system. The collection La Grande Classique de Longines was presented for the first time in 1992. The Swiss watch brand now refines this collection and launches La Grande Classique de Longines 100 Diamonds - new models which combine the typical elegance of this collection with the beauty of 100 bright diamonds.

A large part of the attraction of La Grande Classique de Longines is the ultra-slim case - only 4.60 mm for the new models. This profile has been achieved through the particular design of the case, which incidentally Longines has patented, whereby the back incorporates the lugs for the bracelet.

The watch, set with 100 Top Wesselton VVS diamonds around the bezel and 12 diamond indices on the dial, is made of steel and equipped with a quartz movement. Hours and minutes are indicated on a blue dial. La Grande Classique de Longines 100 Diamonds has a diameter of 29 mm. It is fitted either on a black alligator strap with buckle or on a steel bracelet with folding safety clasp and push-piece opening mechanism. Thanks to the suppleness of its fine links, the bracelet fits snugly on the curve of the wearer's wrist.

The other two new models feature either a white mother-of-pearl or black laquered dial.

The Al Shaqab Equestrian Center, a world class equestrian facility, welcomed the best riders of the world to compete in exciting competitions. Scott Brash celebrated a double victory since he won the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Doha on Hello Sanctos and has been crowned winner of the Longines Global Champions Tour 2013, with 203 points. With 194 points, Christian Ahlmann (Germany) arrived second and Laura Kraut (USA) third with 187 points. As the Official Timekeeper of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, Longines continues a b partnership with the Victorian Racing Cup approaching its twelfth year. A key highlight in the Longines' Carnival Program is the partnership of the international Group 1 Race on AAMI Victorian Derby Day, the Longines Mackinnon Stakes. On Saturday, Jamie Spencer on Side Glance won the Longines Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington. The Longines timepiece trophies were presented by Longines General Manager Australia, Amelia Michael.
Saturday, a crowd of 100,000 explodes out of the start gate as the first race meet on the 2013 Melbourne Cup Calendar. Derby Day, a day of tradition presents the perfect scene for race-goers with four elite Group One races run at Flemington and mirrors an equal celebration of high fashion race-wear. An undisputed institution of the Melbourne Cup Carnival is the 'Myer Fashions on the Field' held at Flemington and is pronounced as Australia's largest outdoor fashion event. Amelia Michael presented the winner of the Longines Award for Elegance, Louise McDonald, with a sparkling timepiece of the Longines DolceVita Collection. Amelia Michael, Longines General Manager Australia also awarded the Men's Racewear winner, and runner-up an elegant Longines timepiece.

As a proud partner of the most prestigious flat races in the world, Longines was delighted to launch Conquest Classic - a collection of timepieces to be worn amidst the excitement of the parade rings at Chantilly, Hong Kong, Royal Ascot and Flemington. The official Watch of the 2013 Carnival was a chronograph from the new Conquest Classic Collection in steel, fitted with a self-winding calibre.

Longines will be launching a brand-new project: the Longines Future Ski Champions. This competition will take place in Val d'Isere from 12 to 14 December. Fourteen skiers under the age of 16 from 14 different countries will be competing against each other in a two-run giant slalom on the lower section of the official slope for the FIS World Cup. The conditions and the timing equipment will be the same as those for the official races. The prizes will be awarded in the presentation arena, just before the draw for the official competition on the following day. The champion for 2013 will win a Longines watch, a trophy and a cheque for USD 20,000 for its national skiing federation, intended to be invested in developing activities for young people. Longines ambassador of elegance and Norwegian skiing champion Aksel Lund Svindal will also be promoting this competition.
 This year, the Swiss watch brand will once again be presenting the Longines Rising Ski Stars prize to the two most successful young skiers, i.e. under 21 years of age for the girls and under 23 for the men, who take part in the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup. At the end of the season the winners will each receive a Longines watch, a trophy and a cheque for CHF 20,000. The two initiatives reflect Longines' commitment to promoting sport among young people. The brand also organises the Longines Future Tennis Aces tournament during the French Open at Roland Garros. Moreover, at the Prix de Diane Longines the brand also holds the Prix Longines Future Racing Stars, a race for young jockeys organised in collaboration with international schools. A chronograph in the Conquest Classic line will be the official watch for the season. With a diameter of 41 mm, the steel case of this model houses the L688 exclusive column-wheel chronograph movement. The black dial features one Arab numeral and 11 hour symbols coated with Super-LumiNova®. This timepiece is water-resistant to 5 bars and has a transparent sapphire, screw-on back cover. 

During 4 days, the spectators attended performances of the world's best riders and horses topped by a first highlight: The Longines Cup of the City of Barcelona, which was won by Patrice Delaveau (FRA) on Carinjo HDC. 
The event also included the final stage of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ during which the French team defeated the teams from Brazil and Ireland, and won the inaugural Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping Final. Longines was the Official Timekeeper of this competition. 18 nations were represented at the final leg of the series in Barcelona: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Japan, Netherlands, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine and USA. There were three competitions during the Furusiyya Final - the first during which all teams competed over one round, the second for the teams that had not finished within the top eight on the previous day and the third in which the leading eight nations battled it out for the brand new Furusiyya trophy.
The new Conquest Classic line - which is dedicated to Longines' involvement in equestrian sports - was the Official Watch of this year's show jumping event in Barcelona.  

All in steel, the three models - one with three hands, a 24-hour model and a chronograph- available in the Longines Heritage Military 1938 line have retained the characteristic simple appearance of the original design.
 

With its simple design, the model with 3 hands has a 40 mm diameter case and is the closest in design to the original product. It is fitted with the automatic calibre L619. The fluted, flat crown, which accentuates the 1930s look, is a direct reference to the original design. Large white Arabic numerals, coated with Super-LumiNova® and a minute circle white as well contrasts with the deep matt black of the dial. A black synthetic strap, stitched in white, adds a final touch to this new model.

The partnership includes naming Longines as the Official Timekeeper and Watch of the Preakness Stakes (G1) as well as the title partner in the Longines Dixie Stakes (G2) and the presenting partner of the International Pavilion.
The partnership begins with this year's Preakness, which has played host to 11 Triple Crown winners and other Hall of Fame horses such as Man o' War, Native Dancer and Spectacular Bid. The 138th running will take place on Saturday, May 18 at Pimlico Race Course.

Longines will have a prominent presence throughout Pimlico on Preakness day serving as the official timepiece at the finish line and the presentation of elegant watches to the owner, trainer and jockey of the winning horse. To highlight its partnership, the watchmaker will also have a digital "Longines Preakness Stakes Countdown Clock" on the official Preakness Stakes website, www.preakness.com.

Longines will also serve as the presenting partner of the International Pavilion, the premier hospitality destination on Preakness day. Positioned at the finish line, the International Pavilion brings the world to the Preakness by selecting a different country each year to serve as the host nation with its respective embassy and Ambassador serving as Honorary Host. The embassy of Japan and Ambassador Kenichiro Sasae will serve as the 2013 host nation.

The new models of the HydroConquest line have a round steel case and a diameter of 39 mm or 41 mm. The 3-hands-models are equipped with an automatic or a quartz movement while the HydroConquest chronographs are available either with the L688 column-wheel movement exclusively developed for Longines by ETA or a quartz movement. The dials in black, white or blue feature bright details in red and - depending on the model - 8 to 11 Arabic numerals. The bracelets are made of steel or rubber in black.

Diving watches "par excellence", The HydroConquest series aims to become the preferred watch of divers and aquatic sports enthusiasts. With a screwed crown, a screw-down case back and the lateral crown protection, these timepieces assure a water-resistance of 30 bar (300 meters). All the models are equipped with indispensable safety devices such as a unidirectional rotating bezel coloured in red, black or blue, hands coated with Super-LumiNova® to make sure that the time can be read in all conditions and a bracelet with double safety diving folding clasp and diving extension.

She took home this year's Longines Prize for Elegance, which was presented at a gala dinner held at the spectacular Grand Foyer du Theâtre National de Chaillot. The prize is awarded to a personality heading an association that helps disadvantaged citizens of our world. Graf's charity association, founded in 1998, is called Children of Tomorrow.
 

Children of Tomorrow works with children traumatized through war, violence and abuse and has offices in Hamburg. Kosovo and Eritrea. "Until today we have been able to reach and treat more than 8,000 children," Graf said during a press conference held at the Roland Garros Tenniseum.
Rising Stars
Additionally, Longines displays its fuzzy yellow heart for up-and-coming tennis players. The Longines Future Tennis Aces sees the Swiss watch company inviting 16 under-twelve tennis players who have worked their ways through grueling qualification tournaments to play the final draw on the grounds of Roland Garros during the second week of the French Grand Slam. This year, girls from Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Britain and the United States competed there. The final, held on June 9 on Court 7, pitted Japan's Haruna Arakawa against Australia's Destanee Aiava - with the latter coming out on top.

Not only did the finalists get to play additional exhibition matches with Longines ambassador Graf, world-ranked number 15 Sabine Lisicki and doubles specialist Mansour Bahrami, but both will receive an annual sum of $2,000 from Longines from now until their sixteenth birthdays to help pay for tennis equipment and costs.
This day of dreams for the young tennis hopefuls ended with a press conference held in Roland Garros's tennis museum, during which Aiava received a Saint-Imier collection watch.
 

Graf, who received the Longines Prize for Elegance during the evening gala, wore an elegant 26 mm stainless steel and rose gold two-tone Saint-Imier Collection model set with 60 diamonds and a mother-of-pearl dial in addition to her rather minimalist jewelry. Both she and her husband Andre Agassi are Longines ambassadors of elegance. "The importance of quality, performance and attention to detail are values I admire in Longines," Graf said. "Longines is also a great partner in supporting the foundations of Andre and I, aiding in broadening our missions and messages."

These timepieces, which had been developed specifically from the brand's aviators' watches, had a very distinctive 24-hour dial. This technical characteristic met the needs of navigators who, at the time, had to determine the position of the aircraft and set up a flight plan. Longines has now re-issued this watch for both historical and functional reasons, as well as for the aesthetic attraction it still holds. The new version has been given the name Longines Twenty-Four Hours.
In 2009, Harry Hofmann, a retired navigator from the old Swissair, visited the Longines Museum. He took advantage of this visit to present the company with a Longines watch that he used to wear when he was working for Swissair. This watch, with its 24-hour dial, is part of a series of timepieces produced by Longines in the 1950's especially for Swissair navigators.

In mid-20th century aviation, one of the responsibilities of the navigator was to determine the aircraft's position and to set up a flight plan. A reliable watch was therefore an essential part of his equipment. The fact that the flight crossed different time-zones in both directions and that the sun was not always visible as a point of reference necessitated instruments that could immediately indicate the correct part of the day. With a 24-hour dial navigators had no problem in this respect.
The watch that Harry Hofmann wore when he was a navigator for Swissair, flying DC-4s, DC-6s, DC-7s, DC-8s and Coronados up until 1974, had been specifically manufactured for the Swiss national airline by Longines in the early 1950's; it bears the number 8237331. It is fitted with a Longines calibre 37.9N with a centre seconds hand, which had been designed in the 1940s and used in Longines watches intended for pilots. The back cover of the steel case of Mr Hofmann's watch is engraved with the Swissair brand-name. Longines' archives reveal that it was one of a series of 70 pieces manufactured between 1953 and 1956 exclusively for the Swiss national airline. Technically, it is related to the aviator's watch - the Longines Weems Second-Setting model, produced in 1927, or the Lindbergh Hour Angle watch made by Longines from 1932 on. The Swiss watch manufacturer has chosen this watch as a re-issue for both historical and functional reasons, as well as for the aesthetic attraction it still holds. It has been given the name Longines Twenty-Four Hours.

The Longines Twenty-Four Hours is fitted with calibre L704.3, a self-winding movement whereby the hands make one full circle of the dial in 24 hours. The stainless steel case has a diameter of 47.50 mm; the dial is matt black with 24 white Arabic numerals coated with Super-LumiNova and has a railway-track minute circle. The time is indicated by hands coated with Super-LumiNova and the watch has a centre seconds hand, all for ease of use, like the original model. There is a date aperture at 3 o'clock. A sapphire glass covers the dial and this timepiece also has a transparent caseback, with its own cover, which reveals the delicate details of the movement. The inside surface of the cover is engraved with the words "Re-edition of a Longines navigation watch exclusively made for Swissair navigators, 1953-1956" plus the watch number. The Longines Twenty-Four Hours is mounted on a black alligator strap and is water-resistant to 3 bar (30 metres).

His professional path led to luxury watches when he began working for Hublot as the CEO of their US branch, and for Binda (watch-maker and distributor of Longines and Breil). He was then asked to come back to Hublot to become their CEO in Nyon. His last position before coming to Reuge: director of a Swiss company which exports watches mainly to African markets.

The Jumping International Officiel de France in La Baule (France), where Longines was the official partner and timekeeper for the sixth year in a row, lived up to the expectations last weekend.

The prestigious Grand Prix Longines de la Ville de La Baule was awarded to Mclain Ward (USA) riding Sapphire followed by Mario Deslauriers (USA, 2nd place) riding Urico and Jesus Garmendia Echevarria (Spain, 3rd place) riding Lord du Mont Milon.

La Baule also marked the first stage of the Longines Press Award for Elegance. This prize pays tribute to the most elegant and successful male and female riders of the season. The procedure is as follows: the 20 riders (10 men and 10 women) who have accumulated the most performance points during the 6 Nations Cup events where Longines is a Partner are short-listed. In Dublin, the last stage of the Nations Cup, a jury of International journalists will elect the most elegant male and female riders from the short-list.
After this first competition, Beezie Madden (female horseriders category) and Mclain Ward (male horseriders category) are leading the intermediate ranking. The next step will be at the CSIO Piazza di Siena in Rome from 27th to 30th May 2010.

Longines started producing timing equipment in 1878 with a simple 20 line chronograph (reference no. 20H) that had a column wheel that controlled the chronograph functions.
