  • Longines - Horse racing

On Sunday 29 November 2015, Kenichi Ikezoe on Shonan Pandora crossed first the finishing line in front of a large audience at the Japan Cup in association with Longines. For this performance, Shonan Pandora's owner, breeder, trainer, jockey and stable staff members were awarded with elegant Longines watches by Mr. Walter von Känel, President of Longines, and Andre Agassi, Longines Ambassador of Elegance.

Inaugurated in 1981, the Japan Cup in association with Longines is a 2400 meter international Group 1 turf race for horses aged three-years-old and up. The race day is named after the most important race held this day. The brand is once again involved in this equestrian event of international importance, as its Official Partner, Timekeeper and Watch.
The Japan Cup in association with Longines was the occasion to discover the Official Watch, which was the Longines Master Collection watch which features a refined silvered dial with a chronograph and moonphase display, as well as a stainless steel case with a transparent case back that reveals a self-winding mechanical movement.

During the race day at Tokyo Racecourse, Longines celebrated feminine elegance and organized the Longines Prize for Elegance awarding the most stylish woman wearing an outfit in blue, which is the emblematic color of the watch brand. The winner of the prize, Kana Oya, received an elegant Longines watch from the hands of Andre Agassi, Longines Ambassador of Elegance.

Longines has an illustrious history in equestrian timekeeping dating back to 1878. The innovative new LPS incorporates a permanent or portable, easily deployable system that sets a new standard for accurate, reliable and repeatable timekeeping and tracking results that will provide huge benefit to both the horseracing industry and enthusiasts.

Mr. Juan-Carlos Capelli, Vice President and Head of International Marketing of Longines said: "For Longines, investing in technological advancements is the latest step in our long term relationship with horseracing. The Longines Positioning System delivers a number of benefits to the sport and is a game-changer for the racing industry (...). We are excited to see how the LPS technology can be utilised in the future to improve the experience for racing spectators, TV viewers and even smart phone and tablet users. There is no question that live performance data enhances viewing experience and depth of understanding."

The LPS tracking and timing provides instant data on the exact position of horses during a race, race rankings, the distance between horses and speed. It boasts accuracy down to 5 centimetres and features up to 1,000 measurements per second.

In a further major announcement, Longines confirmed that it has also become the Official Partner, Official Timekeeper and Official Watch for Rosehill Gardens, specifically for the prominent Longines Golden Slipper Carnival from 2016. Longines has secured naming rights for this esteemed day and thrilling feature race, the Longines Golden Slipper - the richest race in the world for two year olds.

  • Longines - An enthusiasm for the world of horses since 1878

The Longines and IFHA International Award of Merit 2014 was awarded to Alec Head at a ceremony in Paris on 6 October 2014. The Frenchman, a leading figure in his country's horseracing industry, has enjoyed enormous success as a jockey, trainer, owner and breeder over the course of a career spanning several decades.
The trophy, accompanied by an elegant Longines watch, was presented to Mr Head by Mr Juan-Carlos Capelli, Vice-President and Head of International Marketing at Longines, and Mr Louis Romanet, President of the IFHA, during a ceremony specially held to mark the occasion.

On Sunday, 5 October 2014, the large crowds that flocked to the Longchamp Racecourse. For the second consecutive year, Thierry Jarnet on Trêve was the first across the finish line to carry off the 2,400-metre Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

This year's Official Watch for the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe was a steel chronograph from the Conquest Classic collection, a line of timepieces dedicated to Longines' passion for horseracing. With a diameter of 41mm, this timepiece is equipped with an exclusive column wheel movement. Its black dial, with one Arabic numeral and eleven applied indexes all coated with Super-LumiNova®, displays the hours and minutes, with small seconds at 9 o'clock, a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock, and the date display at 4:30. Just like the entire Conquest Classic collection, the watch is water-resistant to 5 bar and its screwed-down case-back is equipped with a sapphire crystal.

  • Longines - Longines Heritage 1935

With its Longines Heritage 1935 model, the brand has re-issued a watch designed originally for aviators in the Czech Air Force in 1935. Much praised for their reliability and robustness, these watches were soon on sale to the general public. Old advertising for these models claims that they were the most perfect inventions of modern technology, an ideal accessory not only for pilots but also for anyone who had a well-developed taste for sport. In 1935 these watches were seen as the height of technical perfection, housing a robust movement and fitted with a glass said to be unbreakable.

Like all watches intended for pilots, the dial of the Longines Heritage 1935 is easy to read. The large white Arabic numerals, coated with Super-LumiNova, stand out clearly against the matt black dial. The small seconds and the date aperture are situated at 6 o'clock. The rhodium-plated, sanded skeleton hands coated with Super-LumiNova also ensure that the time can be easily read. The harmony of the dial is completed by a railway-track minute ring.

The cushion-shaped steel case of the Longines Heritage 1935 has a diameter of 42 mm. Its slightly domed profile is enhanced by the bevelling of the middle, which adds to the impression of robustness. The fluted bezel lends the design a particular allure, true to that of the original model. This watch is fitted with an L615 self-winding movement with a 42-hour power reserve. In addition, each piece is numbered.

  • Longines - Baselworld 2014: Walter von Känel plays the long game

We've heard conflicting opinions about the health of the watch industry in general during the show. Is it fair to say that there are no concerns at Longines and that you dominate your price segment?
Totally. We have some competitors, but they are confined to specific countries and regions. I don't know whether we will maintain this momentum or not, but among the Swiss brands I'm convinced that we still have a couple of good years in front of us.

You have a more or less 50/50 split between gents' and ladies' watches and more and more of them are mechanical. Is Longines unbeatable for mechanical ladies' watches?
We are able to produce ladies' watches at 25mm with self-winding mechanical movements. This still is the favourite size in our collection but fundamentally we always have pair watches in the collection. We have at least one each of gents and ladies' models, but usually it is two or three of each and this is a successful policy.

Some 80 percent of your production is now equipped with mechanical movements. Are you looking to increase this percentage even further?
I think we should push quartz a little bit more. We launched one new quartz chronograph here and I was very surprised by the sales figures for it at the show.

The economic situation in China remains an important concern for many watch brands. Although China is a big market for you, are you less affected by these concerns because of the price segment you operate in?
We are lucky that the buyers of our watches are putting them on their wrist rather than in their pockets. We have kept our position and we have made a very good start to the year there. It's nice to see that many people are becoming interested in classic design, because we have been doing this for years. We will stay in this segment and there will be no changes to this.

The limited-edition Heritage models are a good example of this. But there are only 60 of the gold versions and 600 for the stainless steel. This is just a drop in the ocean for Longines, surely?
I have to admit that I don't like limited editions myself. I think that if you do a limited edition you have to respect your commitment. The problem is that if I say 600 now, by this evening I could have orders for far more than this and I would have to do a lucky draw.

You have been in the industry for many years and Longines has survived the recent crises. Is that because you have stayed firmly in your price segment?
Yes, that is my mission and I respect my mission. We saw some competitor brands entering our price segment, which proved that the decisions we took were the right ones. It's a segmentation issue and quantity is in proportion to price. The Swatch Group also has very b brands from Longines down. I'm very confident because the way I measure my success is the volume I put into production and at the moment I have put about a year's worth of sales into production.

So this must give you some peace of mind for the year ahead?
No, not peace of mind - responsibility! Because once you put the watches into production they will come. We can afford to have some inventory but there is less risk in having an inventory of classic watches than there is with fashion watches.

What is your general outlook for 2014 then?
Let's just say I have put enough pieces into production to have a good year and the first three months of 2014 have been positive.

  • Longines - Conquest Heritage 1954-2014

On 5 May 1954, Longines registered the name "Conquest" with the Swiss Federal Intellectual Property Office. Appreciated as much for their precision as for their design, the first pieces in this line immediately won the hearts of the general public. The name Conquest was soon associated with timing great feats, notably for calculating the speed record for crossing the Atlantic.

The word "Conquest" is inscribed on the dials of the Conquest Heritage 1954-2014 watches in the original typeface as a reminder of those watches that have survived through the ages and retained their contemporary and classical beauty. The first version, available in steel, yellow gold or rose gold, has the same silvered dial decorated with a sun-burst motif as the very first Conquest model dating from 1954. The second version in yellow gold is fitted with a gilded dial. This model is a reinterpretation of one that was presented at the time as "the new jewel in the proud Conquest line".

As with the original models, the case back of these re-issues is decorated with a gold and enamel medallion. This distinctive feature - the "gold seal of Longines quality" - was a guarantee of quality specific to the original Conquest line. There are two versions of the medallion: that used for the models in gold is in the form of a constellation and that used for the models in steel represents a fish. Fitted on a black alligator strap, the Conquest Heritage 1954-2014 models are all numbered. The exclusive versions in gold are limited to 60 pieces only and the series of steel models is limited to 600 pieces only.

  • Longines - The Conquest Classic at the Longines Hong Kong Masters 2014

Like all the models in the Conquest Classic line, the official watch for the 2014 Longines Hong Kong Masters is fitted with a self-winding calibre. With a diameter of 40 mm, this model in steel and rose gold houses the mechanical caliber L619. Its silvered dial is set with 3 arabic numerals and 9 applied indices with Super-LumiNova® and displays the hours, the minutes and the seconds as well as the date at 3 o'clock. Just as the entire collection Conquest Classic, this timepiece is water-resistant to 5 bar and its screw-down case back is fitted with a sapphire glass.

Longines presented this model, dedicated to its passion for equestrian sports, during the Longines Hong Kong Masters. The 2014 edition of the event was held from February 21st to 23rd 2014 at AsiaWorld-Expo (Hong Kong). The two highlights of the event were the Longines Speed Challenge, won by Kevin Staut on Quismy des Vaux H D C, and the Longines Grand Prix, attended by Longines Ambassador of Elegance Aaron Kwok and won by Henrik von Eckermann riding Gotha FRH on Sunday 23 February 2014.

  • Longines - The Longines Heritage 1973, black dial

The cushion-shaped 40 mm case elegantly surrounds the dial, which is thoroughly vintage and true to the original model.

The Longines Heritage 1973 houses calibre L688, a column-wheel chronograph movement developed and produced by ETA exclusively for Longines.

The black dial of the Longines Heritage 1973 boasts a play of contrasts. Two silvered counters were included at 3 and 9 o'clock. The applied hour symbols are decorated with a fine black line and a dot of Super-LumiNova®. These are interposed and balanced out by a minute-circle, also of fine black lines. A blue tachometric scale surrounds the dial, adding a subtle touch of colour to the whole.

  • Longines - Grande Classique 100 Diamonds

The collection La Grande Classique de Longines was presented for the first time in 1992. The Swiss watch brand now refines this collection and launches La Grande Classique de Longines 100 Diamonds - new models which combine the typical elegance of this collection with the beauty of 100 bright diamonds.

A large part of the attraction of La Grande Classique de Longines is the ultra-slim case - only 4.60 mm for the new models. This profile has been achieved through the particular design of the case, which incidentally Longines has patented, whereby the back incorporates the lugs for the bracelet.

The watch, set with 100 Top Wesselton VVS diamonds around the bezel and 12 diamond indices on the dial, is made of steel and equipped with a quartz movement. Hours and minutes are indicated on a blue dial. La Grande Classique de Longines 100 Diamonds has a diameter of 29 mm. It is fitted either on a black alligator strap with buckle or on a steel bracelet with folding safety clasp and push-piece opening mechanism. Thanks to the suppleness of its fine links, the bracelet fits snugly on the curve of the wearer's wrist.

The other two new models feature either a white mother-of-pearl or black laquered dial.

  • Longines - Official Timekeeper of Equita'Lyon

Longines was the Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of the proceedings. Bringing together over 650 exhibitors and breeders spread over 120,000 sq.m., the event served as preparation for the Longines FEI World Cup Jumping competition final, to be held precisely in Lyon From April 17 to 21 2014. What's more, on that Sunday, the Longines Grand Prix presented by GL Events was run - and won by Maikel van der Vleuten riding VDL Groep Verdi.
In the context of Equita'Lyon, Longines also provided its support to JustWorld International, a charity association, to help it further its mission successfully. JustWorld International collects funds for a variety of projects designed to assist children in developing countries, particularly within the ambit of its "Give 4 Good" worldwide campaign, backed by many professional riders. Every year, "Give 4 Good" provides over 3,000 children with an opportunity to improve the course of their life. In this perspective, Longines set up a "Longines Clear the Jump" contest at the 2013 Equita'Lyon competition. Every obstacle faultlessly cleared at the Longines Grand Prix presented by GL Events, had Longines make a donation to JustWorld International, enabling the Swiss watch brand to assist the association's work concretely.
In Lyon, Longines presented Longines DolceVita. The timepiece of the event was a quartz watch in steel set with 32 diamonds whose sparkle emphasises the rectangular form and harmonious proportions of the case. The white dial features ten indices, an Arabic numeral 12 and silvered hands that indicate the hours and minutes, with a small second at 6 o'clock. This elegant, contemporary model is mounted on a steel bracelet.

  • Longines - Two gymnasts honoured

Longines awarded its Prize for Elegance to the American gymnast Kyla Ross and to the world champion, Japanese gymnast Kohei Uchimura at the end of the second all-around final on October 4.
World champion for the fourth consecutive time - a record - the Japanese athlete received this prize for the second time. Both gymnasts have been presented with a trophy, a Longines watch and a cheque for 5'000$.
Set up in 1997, the Longines Prize for Elegance is aimed at honouring the most elegant and charismatic gymnasts. Apart from purely technical considerations, the criteria are based rather on grace, harmonious movement and emotion during the performances.
Symbolising the contemporary elegance of the brand, the Longines DolceVita collection has been one of the stars at Antwerp. With its combination of sparkling diamonds, gleaming steel and glowing rose gold, the official watch for the event is fitted with a quartz caliber and features a white dial with ten rose pink hour symbols and one Arabic numeral. This contemporary rectangular timepiece is mounted on a bracelet of steel and rose gold and is set with 32 diamonds - a perfect illustration of the famous Longines slogan "Elegance is an attitude".

  • Longines - Longines Prize for Precision 2013

The Longines Prize for Precision 2013 has been awarded to the two most precise compound athletes of the season, Erika Jones (USA) and Braden Gellenthien (USA).
After four qualifying stages, in Shanghai (China), Antalya (Turkey), Medellin (Colombia) and Wroclaw (Poland), the top athletes were in Paris for the Final of the 2013 World Cup. Erika Jones (USA) and Braden Gellenthien (USA) have scored the most "10s" during the qualifications and the tournament of the season, 379 for Jones and 447 for Gellenthien. They each received a trophy, a Longines watch and a cheque for 5'000 CHF.
Representing the precision of Longines, a steel chronograph from the collection Conquest Classic was the official watch of this event. With a diameter of 41 mm, this model houses the exclusive mechanical column-wheel caliber L688. Its black dial is set with one arabic numeral and 11 applied indices with Super-LumiNova®. It displays the hours and the minutes, a small second at 9, a 30-minute counter at 3, a 12-hour counter at 6 as well as the date at 4:30. Just as the entire collection Conquest Classic, this timepiece is water-resistant to 5 bar and its screw-down case back is fitted with a sapphire glass.

  • Longines - Avigation Oversize Crown

Based on a Longines model produced in the 1920s, The Longines Avigation Oversize Crown is designed for a pilot, with its 41 mm diameter, its black dial featuring white numerals and gold-plated, luminous, pear-shaped hands. It is extremely easy to read in the semi-darkness of the cockpit. Each piece in this new line is numbered.
The bezel is also marked with a single index and can be turned in both directions, enabling the pilot to set his reference points. Thanks to the fluted decoration around the bezel, it can be manipulated with great precision. And as for the oversize crown and winding stem, which stand away from the case, they enable a pilot wearing gloves good access to the bezel without coming into contact with the crown. In the original model, this bezel enabled the pilots to record time data when chronographs were still rare, as well as to record the times of important events when they were on a mission or, then and now, times of meetings.
The Longines Avigation Oversize Crown has retained the basic design of the original model, yet it is fitted with a mechanical, self-winding movement and available in three stainless steel versions. The basic version presented today shows the hours, minutes and seconds, while an alternative model has a second time-zone and the third is a single push-piece chronograph fitted with Longines' exclusive column-wheel chronograph movement (L788).

  • Longines - Simon Baker is the epitome of elegance

    WATCH THE VIDEO

Elegance has always been one of Longines' core values, as can be seen in the brand's timepieces, famous for their clever balance of refinement and classical design. The Australian actor Simon Baker, who joined the family of Longines ambassadors of elegance last June, is the perfect embodiment of the very essence of elegance. In the second part of Longines advertising campaign, he is featured wearing a three-piece suit in a city apartment. On his wrist, the Longines Master Collection Moon Phases adds a touch of refinement to the scene. This emblematic model perfectly represents Longines' watchmaking heritage and know-how.

When asked to define his idea of elegance, Simon Baker emphasises that "Longines' motto "Elegance is an Attitude" is a way of being - the way you carry yourself and the perception you give off. For me, elegance means being self-confident, being able to feel comfortable in all situations and always being true to yourself. Elegance involves staying curious, keeping one's self control and above all enjoying life!"

With his natural charm, Simon Baker lends a new brilliance to The Longines Master Collection Moon Phases model. Fitted with a self-winding calibre, this timepiece, with a diameter of 42 mm, is mounted on a brown alligator strap. The silvered dial, subtly decorated with a fine barleycorn motif, contrasts bly with the moon phases display and the blued hands - a fount of elegance in itself..
The final part of the advertising campaign will be revealed in a few months' time, with a new series of exclusive photos of Simon Baker.

  • Longines - Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe

Solemia and jockey Olivier Peslier have been the heroes of the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe watched by over 50,000 people at the Longchamp racecourse. At the finish line of a breathtaking race, Olivier Peslier and his 4 year old filly have beaten Christophe Soumillon and Orfevre. Another highlight of the day, the Prix de l'Opera Longines has been won by Ridasiyna and Christophe-Patrice Lemaire. This year the famous Swiss watchmaker was involved in the prestigious Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe as official timekeeper for the second time as part of the partnership between the brand and the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club and France Galop.

Longines' passion for horses began with the manufacture of a pocket chronograph depicting a jockey and his mount, engraved by hand on the back of the case. Since at least 1881, Longines has been committed to horseracing and its chronographs have been highly sought after by racegoers. Today the brand is official partner and timekeeper to numerous prestigious events around the world, embracing horseracing, show jumping and endurance riding. Along with the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe it is affiliated to other iconic races such as the Prix de Diane Longines, the Dubai World Cup, Royal Ascot, the H.H. The Emir's Trophy presented by Longines, the Longines Hong Kong International races, the Longines Singapore Gold Cup, the Melbourne Cup Carnival, the Longines Handicap de las Americas, the Grand Prix Longines Lydia Tesio, the Longines Grosser Preis von Baden and the Kentucky Derby.

As part of its partnership with France Galop, the famous Swiss watchmaker is present at Chantilly, Deauville and Longchamp racecourses as the official timekeeper and the title partner of the Prix de Diane Longines. The brand is also the official partner and timekeeper for all the events organised by the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club.

In the frame of the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Longines introduced a chronograph from The Longines Saint-Imier Collection, a line that has been inspired by the origins of Longines' watchmaking tradition. The sleek lines and the distinctive lugs provide these new models with a subtle balance between classical and contemporary design. With a diameter of 41 mm, this chronograph is fitted with a column-wheel movement L688, developed and produced exclusively for Longines. Its case in steel displays a black dial and is fitted with a steel bracelet.

  • Longines - New campaign featuring Simon Baker

The well-known actor, who plays Patrick Jane in the series The Mentalist, debuted in his new role as a Longines Ambassador of Elegance at Chantilly Racecourse, the home of the Prix de Diane Longines race.
On the 17th of June, Simon Baker was launched as a Longines Ambassador of Elegance on the occasion of the Prix de Diane Longines. At the Chantilly Racecourse the Australian actor showed that he was the perfect embodiment of the brand's values.

The sumptuous setting of the Château de Chantilly and its famous racecourse was a dream backdrop for the first photo-shoot featuring Simon Baker with the Swiss watch brand. The team working with the celebrated photographer Nicolas Guerin were able to admire Simon Baker's professionalism. The actor posed in three atmospheric scenes that will constitute the three themes of the advertising campaign centred around the slogan "Elegance is an attitude".

The first part of the campaign, revealed here, features Simon Baker in the world of horse-racing. This comes as no surprise, given Longines' involvement in equestrian sports. Chantilly, the capital of horse racing in France, was naturally the ideal setting to shoot Simon Baker and a thoroughbred racehorse.
Referring to the photo shoot, Simon Baker said: "I am proud to have been selected as an ambassador for such an established and elegant brand as Longines. Our first campaign shoot was a pleasure to work on. I felt very at home with both the Longines family and the horse. I am very pleased with the results and I look forward to future collaborations."

For his part, Juan-Carlos Capelli, Vice President and Head of International Marketing of Longines, was totally satisfied with the company's first session with Simon Baker: "What a pleasure it was working with him! His politeness and professionalism charmed everyone, including the photographer's team. We are extremely proud to reveal the first part of this new campaign in which Simon Baker is presenting The Longines Saint-Imier Collection."
During the coming months, the second and third parts of the campaign will be launched with exclusive photos from the shoot.

  • Longines - A Grand Prize

    WORLDTEMPUS - 5 September 2011

Though Andrasch Starke raced on a total of nine different horses in nine of the ten races that took place yesterday as the exciting close to a wonderful week in Iffezheim / Baden-Baden, I kept betting on him in the wrong races. Starke, you see, won the race that counted, though not the race that I thought he would win after listening to experts in horse racing expound upon the recent past of the jockeys, horses, and trainers taking part in yesterday's Grosser Preis von Baden. This sixth and final day of racing on the Iffezheim track closed with a bang.

It was indeed Andrasch took the podium, triumphant on Danedream, in the race in which Longines offered a total of 250,000 euros and the prize of honor to the winners.
The Iffezheim week is a highpoint of the social calendar in the German state of Baden in addition to being the most important event on Germany's horse racing calendar. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that there is a grand prix ball to celebrate the sporting occasion. Longines, the event's timing partner, also took guests to the Saturday evening gala event emceed by German actor Sky du Mont ("Der Schuh des Manitou") and during which Gloria Gaynor ("I Will Survive") sang her hits.

If Longines had only been able to predict exactly which race Starke was going to win, I would have been able to partake more fully in the whole "grand prix" experience, though. Shouldn't there be a watch for that? Unfortunately, the Dolce Vita - the official watch of the Grosser Preis von Baden-Baden - wasn't quite outfitted with this function.

  • Longines - A partnership of elegance with France Galop

The well known Swiss watchmaker Longines and France Galop, the organiser of national flat and jump racing in France, were delighted to announce this morning in Paris their long-term partnership.

Involved in the world of sport since 1878, Longines has a vast experience of timing equestrian events that it will now be pleased to put to use as official timekeeper at the Chantilly, Deauville and Longchamp racecourses. The Prix de Diane Longines, run in June at Chantilly, will be the highlight of this partnership, which celebrates one of Longines' key values: elegance. To mark this new association that will enhance the traditions of both sides, the Swiss watchmaker has launched its Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph, a modern timepiece based on the timing instruments created by Longines in the second half of the 19th century.
This long-term partnership between the Swiss watchmaker and France Galop enables Longines to employ its vast experience in sports timing at the racecourses at Chantilly, Deauville and Longchamp. Founded in 1832 in St. Imier, Switzerland, Longines can boast a long tradition of sports timing which dates back to 1878 with the production of a simple column-wheel chronograph. Incidentally, one of the first pocket chronographs, which is now in the Longines Museum, features an elegant jockey on his horse hand-engraved on the back cover. Since those early days, Longines has been responsible for timing at numerous international events and has produced many technological innovations that have influenced the development of timing and competitive sport.

During the press conference announcing this partnership, Walter von Känel, President of Longines, said: "Equestrian sport is a real passion for Longines as it embodies the values of style and elegance, precision and performance. These values represent Longines' watchmaking tradition and underlie its worldwide reputation. We are therefore very happy to be involved as of today as official partner of France Galop and title sponsor of the Prix de Diane Longines as well as official timekeeper of the racecourses of Chantilly, Longchamp and Deauville."
On his side, Charles-Henri de Moussac, Vice-president of France Galop and Chairman of the Flat Racing Council, pointed out: « We are delighted of this partnership agreement that was signed today by France Galop, the organiser of national flat and jump racing in France, and Longines, the prestigious watchmaking maison. The core values of precision and elegance are shared by both brands and concluding today this partnership, making Longines official timekeeper of the racecourses of Longchamp, Chantilly and Deauville as well as title sponsor of the Prix de Diane Longines fills us with joy."

With a keen interest in equestrian sport for nigh on ninety years, Longines is already the official partner and timekeeper for many equestrian events, including most of the CSIO Nations Cup competitions and various Arab Equestrian League meetings. Moreover, apart from its traditional involvement in the Melbourne Cup Carnival, which includes the Longines MacKinnon Stakes, Longines is the official timekeeper for other prestigious race meetings such as the Longines Singapore Gold Cup at the Singapore Turf Club and the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. Longines also has the singular honour of being a partner of Royal Ascot.

The famous Swiss watchmaker involves itself in sports that perpetuate the values of tradition and elegance, which Longines itself has upheld for over 175 years, as can be seen for example in its partnership with the French Open Tennis Tournament in Roland Garros. The highlight of Longines' association with France Galop will be in June with the "Prix de Diane Longines", one of the most prestigious equestrian events in the French racing calendar and one of the most elegant sports meetings in the world. The very special atmosphere that pervades the Chantilly Racecourse over this weekend in June recalls Longines' slogan "Elegance is an attitude". Later in the season, on 14 July to be precise, the Prix Longines will be one of the races that make up the Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris meeting, while the brand will also be the official timekeeper for the Longchamp Racecourse where the prestigious Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe will be held.
This partnership, with its stamp of tradition on both sides, has led Longines to launch an exclusive chronograph watch under the name the Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph. This timepiece is fitted with a cutting-edge mechanical column-wheel movement based on the timing instruments produced by the firm from 1878 onwards.

Based in St. Imier in Switzerland since 1832, the watchmaker Longines can look back on more than 175 years of non-stop craftsmanship, as well as a solid heritage as timekeeper for world championships in various sports and collaborator with different international sports federations. Known for the elegance of its timepieces, Longines is a member of the Swatch Group Ltd, the World's leading manufacturer of horological products. With the winged hourglass as its emblem, the brand has outlets in over 130 countries.

  • Longines - Partner of the Alpine Skiing

As the official timekeeper for the World Cup Alpine skiing competitions organised by the International Skiing Federation (FIS) during the 2010-2011 season, Longines will be present on the slopes for a whole series of events to be held in Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Finland, France, USA, Italy, Norway, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Switzerland and Slovenia. This year the brand will be launching its Conquest Chronograph, a timepiece that combines all the technical characteristics required by the most demanding sportsmen and women. During the season all eyes will be on Longines Ambassador of Elegance, Aksel Lund Svindal, the Norwegian whose performance in 2009-2010 was truly remarkable. Longines would like to take this opportunity to wish him every success in the coming events.
As Walter von Känel, President of Longines, said, "Longines is looking forward to the new skiing season and the magnificent competitions that we can expect. We are delighted to now be present in all the countries of the FIS World Cup! "

Meanwhile, Gian-Franco Kasper, President of the FIS, commented "The FIS is delighted that the long-term relationship between Longines and the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup is going from strength to strength. The sport of Alpine ski racing relies 100% on accurate timing. A total of 78 competitions will be staged in 14 countries, which requires an experienced global partner equipped to handle this massive task. With Longines we know that we are in the best possible hands."
The brand's long association with competitive skiing started in Chamonix in 1933. The winter contracts for timing international skiing events that followed gave Longines the opportunity to introduce many technological innovations, since each era has presented its own specific demands. Over time, the technical requirements in timekeeping have become much more stringent. For the men's downhill, for example, the FIS now requires five intermediate times and two speed measurements as well as the final time. In addition, all measurements must be to one hundredth of a second.

During the 2010-2011 skiing season Longines will be launching its Conquest Chronograph, a model that perpetuates the spirit of conquest demonstrated by those who dared to go just that little bit further to reach new horizons. It is on the basis of this spirit of adventure and its own heritage that Longines has designed the Conquest Chronograph models. They aim to attract today's sportsmen and women, who demand efficiency and performance without sacrificing elegance.
During the coming season all eyes will be on Aksel Lund Svindal, one of Longines' Ambassadors of Elegance. His performance during the 2009-2010 season was truly outstanding and Longines takes this opportunity to congratulate him and wish him every success during the coming months. The brand is looking forward to seeing its Ambassador of Elegance on the podium again very soon.

  • Longines - PrimaLuna, a new star in the Longines galaxy

A silvery moon on a spring night; a star that glistens reaches its peak and then disappears. A symbol of passing time, living time and the moon that entrances us with its rounded, delicate lines the new Longines PrimaLuna is a tribute to this silvery star. Its soft silhouette is enhanced by the exquisite purity of the dial and the whole is illuminated by a play of sparkling diamonds. Graceful, magical, this is a model that will seduce women who appreciate contemporary, sophisticated elegance.
The Moon has been used to measure time by every civilisation; this night star is feminine, cyclical and eternal. A star that produces dreams! In many cultures the New Moon is a symbol of renewal when it marks the beginning of a new year or the arrival of spring. To pay tribute to this mystical star, the famous Saint-Imier watchmaker is launching an exquisitely fine interpretation of the magic of the Moon this year: the Longines PrimaLuna.

The subtle mystery of spring, the Longines PrimaLuna emerges from a wakening world. The Moon is no longer pale but iridescent, opaline, masterful. Sheherazade moves elegantly into position under the stars...
The delicate gleam of stainless steel, the rich hue of rose or yellow gold, or the blend of rose gold and steel. A sleek bracelet of steel, gold or steel and rose gold or a leather strap. A selection of heavenly dials: white, silvered or mother-of-pearl decorated with hour symbols, Arabic or Roman numerals or diamonds. And finally, three hands, blued, gilded or rose, that marks the passing of time. As multifaceted as the modern woman, the Longines PrimaLuna range offers a selection of models in four sizes.
This ladies' watch is at the same time a piece of jewellery. The pleasing curves of the case are enhanced by a play of diamonds. Precious pieces of pure carbon that glitter with fascination... so feminine! Similarly, the white mother-of-pearl dials of the most sophisticated models are also decorated with sparkling teardrops that will seduce any woman who appreciates diamonds.

Resolutely elegant, contemporary, subtle and carefree. The new Longines PrimaLuna offers to every woman, every modern Sheherazade, to each luminous, unique female a magical world represented by this new collection of exquisite models.
