  • Longines - Conquest 1/100th St. Moritz

Longines is now the Official Watch of the resort of St. Moritz, which is renowned worldwide as the epitome of elegance, a value dear to the Swiss watch brand. The spectacular ski resort hosts FIS Alpine World Ski Championships and World Cup stages all timed by Longines. It is also avenue for stylish equestrian events, such as the Longines CSI St. Moritz or the Night Turf St. Moritz and its Longines Show-Sprint Race. To celebrate this new partnership, the winged hourglass brand is launching an exclusive edition created especially for St. Moritz: the Conquest 1/100th St. Moritz. Touches of yellow and blue on the hands, the dial or the flange subtly hint at the iconic logo of St. Moritz, which is also engraved on the case back.

The Conquest 1/100th series responds to the needs of athletes, professionals and sports fans, besides many others, since it measures multiple intermediary times and has an intuitive analogue display that shows the time to one hundredth of a second using a separate hand. All of this is possible thanks to a latest generation movement.

The demands required for Longines to reach such an extreme level of precision have led to the development of a new quartz movement, the L440, developed exclusively for Longines by the manufacture ETA. This new model includes a microcontroller with a flash memory that allows the watch to be reset instantly and allows intermediary times to be recorded. With a diameter of 41 mm, this steel model has a silver face that displays hours, minutes, small seconds at 6 o'clock, the date and other chronographic functions: a central seconds hand, a 30-minute stopwatch at 2 o'clock and a 12-hour stopwatch at 10 o'clock. The hand in yellow displays time to one hundredth of a second and is the watch's crowning glory at the centre. The model is also fitted with a steel bracelet and a butterfly clasp.

  • Longines - Glasgow 2014

52 years after its first association with the Games in Perth, Australia, Longines renews its support to this multi-sport event, taking place from 23 July to 3 August in Glasgow. Involving 71 teams of athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations and Territories, this will be the largest competition ever held in Scotland.

Longines will provide the On Venue Results (OVR) service that includes the handling, the processing and the broadcasting of the official times and scores of the different sport events.

Timekeeping itself is only a modest part in the global picture and Longines will rely on its long-lasting experience in complete data handling for Glasgow 2014. Any score, distance, name, team, ranking and time requires technology to instantly process and distribute it as TV graphics for television networks. Scoreboards and displays will be spread around the different sporting venues, and the Commentator's Information System (CIS) will make available to rights holding broadcasters comprehensive information about the competitions, statistics and results.

It's really cool that Longines has this award dedicated to young athletes. It's cool to push young athletes to do their very best and this helps do that because we're not always going to be competing for an overall globe or titles - it's great to know that young athletes have something special of their own to shoot for."
Alexis Pinturault: "This prize is a great idea for the young skiers! The highlight of my season definitely is my first victory in Val d'Isere. It was a great moment, my first podium after my surgery and my first success in slalom."
Longines' long-term association with competitive ski started in Chamonix in 1933. For many decades, Longines has introduced important innovations to match the technological advancements of alpine skiing competitions and to address the demands of timekeeping and the audience. Longines, official timekeeper and data handler at the 42nd Artistic Gymnastics World Championships 2010 in Rotterdam, is pleased to announce that the Longines Prize for Elegance has been given to the female gymnast Rie Tanaka from Japan and the male gymnast Philipp Boy from Germany. This award decorates the athletes having demonstrated the most remarkable elegance in the course of the competition. Furthermore, Longines had the pleasure to present the latest attribution to its Longines PrimaLuna collection.

At the 42nd Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, all participants in the individual all-around finals held on Friday October 22nd, were nominated for the Longines Prize for Elegance.

The athletes under consideration for the prize had been evaluated according to a number of complementary criteria. In addition to technical considerations, each athlete's performance has been judged with respect to emotional appeal, beauty, charm, charisma as well as grace and harmony of movement. Clearly, each juror has interpreted these criteria individually, yet the result is often unanimous, as it was again on this occasion.

The jury of the Longines Prize for Elegance brought together Dr. Bruno Grandi, President of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), Fieke Willems, former gymnast and Dutch Champion, Carel Emmelot, Brand Manager Longines Netherlands and Walter von Känel, President of Longines.

The PrimaLuna model that Longines presented in Rotterdam combines the radiance of steel with the warmth of rose gold. The silvered flinque dial is decorated with 11 blue-painted Roman numerals and blued steel hands. The mixture of steel and rose gold produces a subtle beauty that enhances the hard shine of the one and the soft warmth of the other. • Longines - History 1960s - 1970s

1960s: Diamonds-International AcademyDuring the nineteen sixties, no fewer than four Diamond Academy Awards were earned by Longines designs. In addition, Longines won in 1964 the Prix d'Honneur of the Swiss city of Lausanne, part of the events celebrating the Swiss National Exhibition, held every quarter of a century1970s: Golden Rose of Baden-BadenWhen the quartz revolution of the 1970s changed the industry forever, it took some time for designers, and of course their employers, to recover from an "everything is possible" mentality and return to their primary role, creating beauty on the wrist. Longines designers succeeded brilliantly, with Flore Marine (1970), Vagues (1970), Kleopatra (1975) and Volubilis (1978) all winning a prestigious German award, the Golden Rose of Baden-Baden.Design breakthroughs
In 1972, Paris-based French designer Serge Manzon created specially for Longines a series of solid silver watches. Even today, these avant-garde designs remain a source of inspiration for not a few watch manufacturers. One year later, a Longines model called Prototype won the coveted Prize of the City of Geneva award.Technical advances support aesthetic developments
By 1960 Longines set new records with the thinnest electromagnetic watch ever made. Nineteen years later, in 1979, its Feuille d'Or models, fitted with caliber L795, broke the two-millimeter thinness barrier to become the world's slimmest watch, measuring an astonishing 1.98 mm from front to back. The secret: a quartz movement totally integrated into the case.

In a maharaja's Palace in Jaipur, in the heart of Rajasthan (India) an apparition stands before us... Gracefully she moves forward with a swish of silk. Then silence prevails, her movement is suspended in time... until Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is ready to begin filming. A day devoted to a photo shoot and a film for the brand's new collection of women's watches, the Longines PrimaLuna. The well known Swiss watchmaker has brought together a host of Indian stars to join the beauty who has been its Ambassador of Elegance for the past 10 years. The superb Indian star is without question the perfect embodiment of Longines' slogan "Elegance is an attitude". The new collection and the advertising campaign will be unveiled very shortly.

Under the intense sun of a fine summer day in Rajasthan, the Rambagh Palace in Jaipur provides the background for a mysterious ballet. Under the direction of Farrokh Chothia and Kiiran Deohans, preparations for filming are being made. India's leading fashion photographer (who has previously taken some of the most stunning shots of Aishwarya) and the undisputed master of Indian advertising films (over 800 spots to his credit, plus a series of awards) are devoting their full attention to a magnificent collection of timepieces and the ravishing ambassador who is promoting them.
