  • Longines - The Longines Prize for Precision

Longines has been since 2008 the Official Partner and Timekeeper of the Archery World Cup season. The tour started in May in Shanghai, China then visited Antalya, Turkey and Wroclaw, Poland. Athletes receive points for finishing in the top 32 at each event on the Archery World Cup circuit. At the fourth and last stage of the Archery World Cup in Medellin, Colombia, 32 elite athletes booked their invitations to the Mexico City 2015 Archery World Cup Final.

This sport represents the values that the brand cherishes - precision, tradition and elegance. To succeed, the athletes master bow and arrow through concentration, balance, accuracy, and skill. In Mexico City, the Official Watch of the event was a model from The Longines Master Collection. It features a silver-finished "barleycorn" patterned dial which makes an elegantly contrasting background to the moon-phase display.

To round up the Archery World Cup season, Longines presented the Longines Prize for Precision on Saturday 25, following the compound final. Female athlete Sara Lopez from Colombia and male athlete Mike Schloesser from the Netherlands were the most precise archers of the 2015 World Cup in the compound category. They have scored the most "10 rings" during the qualifications and the tournaments of the season. They each received a Longines Prize for Precision-trophy, a Longines watch and a cheque.

  • Longines - The Longines Column-Wheel Single Push-Piece Chronograph

Once again drawing from its long watchmaking tradition, Swiss watchmaker Longines is reissuing one of its period time pieces as a new addition to the Longines Column-Wheel Single Push-Piece Chronograph line. Longines' exclusive single push-piece column-wheel movement is housed in the sober watch case of this new model.

  • Longines - Equestrian Collection

Boasting a decidedly bold design, the various models of this collection nevertheless remain true to the elegance that characterises the winged hourglass brand.
Shapes and materials derive their inspiration from symbolic elements of equestrian sports with which Longines have been intertwined for over a century. The models evoking the arch are available in four sizes - 23 mm, 26 mm and 30 mm and 34 mm - while watches drawing their inspiration from the stirrup come in three sizes, 23.50 mm, 26.50 mm and 30 mm.

  • Longines - Conquest Classic

As a partner of the most prestigious flat races in the world, Longines was keen to launch a collection of timepieces to be worn amidst the excitement of the parade rings at Chantilly, Hong Kong, Royal Ascot or Dubai racecourses.

True to the brand's values of elegance, tradition and performance, this new collection of models, all fitted with self-winding calibres, is at the same time totally contemporary and perfectly timeless.

The "Conquest" brand was patented through the WIPO on 25 May 1954. Since then this name has been used for many successful models manufactured by Longines across the years. Today, Conquest Classic joins the brand's other collections of classical beauty that have helped to make Longines' reputation and success throughout the world. • Longines - Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe

Solemia and jockey Olivier Peslier have been the heroes of the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe watched by over 50,000 people at the Longchamp racecourse. At the finish line of a breathtaking race, Olivier Peslier and his 4 year old filly have beaten Christophe Soumillon and Orfevre. Another highlight of the day, the Prix de l'Opera Longines has been won by Ridasiyna and Christophe-Patrice Lemaire. This year the famous Swiss watchmaker was involved in the prestigious Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe as official timekeeper for the second time as part of the partnership between the brand and the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club and France Galop.

Longines' passion for horses began with the manufacture of a pocket chronograph depicting a jockey and his mount, engraved by hand on the back of the case. Since at least 1881, Longines has been committed to horseracing and its chronographs have been highly sought after by racegoers. Today the brand is official partner and timekeeper to numerous prestigious events around the world, embracing horseracing, show jumping and endurance riding. Along with the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe it is affiliated to other iconic races such as the Prix de Diane Longines, the Dubai World Cup, Royal Ascot, the H.H. The brand is also the official partner and timekeeper for all the events organised by the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club.

In the frame of the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Longines introduced a chronograph from The Longines Saint-Imier Collection, a line that has been inspired by the origins of Longines' watchmaking tradition. The sleek lines and the distinctive lugs provide these new models with a subtle balance between classical and contemporary design. With a diameter of 41 mm, this chronograph is fitted with a column-wheel movement L688, developed and produced exclusively for Longines. Its case in steel displays a black dial and is fitted with a steel bracelet.

  • Longines - History on the Racetrack

Last year after Longines' elegant event (can we link to my story from 9.5.11 here?), I reported how I kept betting on jockey Andrasch Starke in the wrong races. Learning from my mistakes, I bet on him when it counted. As did the stall that brought Danedream to Iffezheim, Germany's premier horse racing event.
Over the weekend, I kept thinking of how Danedream's story reminded me a lot of Seabiscuit, the horse who made it to Hollywood. A German thoroughbred racehorse who no one wanted at the beginning (her eventual owners only paid € 9,000 for her), four-year-old Danedream is the most successful racehorse to ever come from Germany. Her races were chiefly won in 2011 and 2012. This past weekend she raced for the last time in Iffezheim: apparently racehorses retire at the zenith of their careers.

This is all great news for Longines, as the interest surrounding Danedream led the main Iffezheim race called the Grosser Preis von Baden - in which Longines offered a total of 250,000 euros and the prize of honor, including a watch, to the winners - to be nationally and internationally televised, preempting even soccer on German television.

    Grand Prix for a Hat
The Iffezheim week is a highpoint of the social calendar in the Germany's Baden in addition to being the most important event on Germany's horseracing calendar. In addition to participating in the grand prix ball celebrating the sporting occasion, Longines, the event's timing partner, also awarded the Longines Prize for Elegance to the most elegant female visitor to the races. As you probably know, hats are grand tradition at equestrian sporting events, one that is also honored in Germany. Congratulations to Ines Wallraff for going home with a timepiece from the Saint-Imier Collection as well as a beautifully sunny day at the races.

  • Longines - Conquest 24 hours, the elegance of performance

Founded in the town of Saint-Imier, the famous Swiss watchmaker Longines, which celebrates this year its 180th anniversary, has a long tradition marked by the continual elegance and performance of its products. The Conquest line is the quintessential expression of Longines' sporting elegance and presents most emblematic pieces within the Longines Sport Collection. The brand now extends this line with the Conquest 24 hours - dedicated to all of those who aim to discover new horizons.

The Conquest series perpetuates the spirit of conquest of all those who, to discover new horizons, have dared to go further than others, without sacrificing elegance. It is with this spirit and its personal heritage that Longines has designed the models in the Conquest line. The design of each watch contains the subtle fusion of performance and elegance, including the most demanding technical characteristics.

The new Conquest 24 hours now adds a second time zone, a tool used by pilots crossing different time-zones in both directions. As the sun was not always visible as a point of reference, instruments were needed that could immediately indicated the correct part of the day. With a 24-hour dial navigators had no problem in this respect. The new Conquest 24 hours will attract people with an adventurous streak always trying to get a step further without sacrificing elegance. With its water-resistance to 5 bar (50 m), this model is not only a reliable partner in the air but also under water.

The robust, yet elegant stainless steel case of the new Conquest 24 hours has a diameter of 41 mm and houses a self-winding mechanical movement. The sapphire glass with anti-reflective coating on the underside protects a black, silvered or blue dial with 2 applied Arabic numerals and 9 applied indices. Rhodium-plated hands with Super-LumiNova show hours, minutes and seconds, the date is indicated at 3 o'clock. The bright red 24-hour hand immediately attracts the eye. All models are available on a stainless steel bracelet and have a screw-in back cover and crown. Another feature is the lateral protection for the crown.

The Conquest 24 hours definitely meets the most demanding requirements of travellers, sportsmen and -women and people searching for a reliable watch wherever they are.

The Longines Saint-Imier Collection has been inspired by the foundations of the watchmaking tradition on which the brand, known by its winged hourglass trademark, has been built. Longines was set up in 1832 in what was then a small village nestling in a valley deep in the Swiss Jura mountains: Saint-Imier. Right from the firm's early days, Longines Watch Co. Francillon Ltd. has played a central role in life in Saint-Imier, which has since become a watchmaking hub. The fate of Longines and the village of Saint-Imier has thus been closely interwoven. This long relationship has now been sealed by a collection of exceptional timepieces all fitted with mechanical movements: The Longines Saint-Imier Collection.

The shape of the case - inspired by a model dating from 1945 - is a common theme throughout the collection. The sleek lines and the distinctive lugs provide these new models with a subtle balance between classical and contemporary design. The Longines Saint-Imier Collection includes watches that show the hours, minutes, seconds and date, and chronographs, plus a prestige model featuring four retrograde functions as well as a day/night display and phases of the moon. All the models in this collection are fitted with mechanical movements whose intricate workings can be admired through the transparent sapphire back cover.
The versions that show the hours, minutes and seconds with a date aperture at 3 o'clock are available in steel, in steel and rose gold or in rose gold. With a choice of four case sizes (26 mm, 30 mm, 38.50 mm and 41 mm), including some set with diamonds all our customers will find a version that fits snugly on their wrist. The choice of dials includes black, silvered or white mother-of-pearl with diamonds index and, thanks to the Super-LumiNova coating on the hands, reading the time is never a problem. The watches in this collection are fitted on a black or brown alligator strap, or a steel or steel and rose gold bracelet, with a folding safety clasp, to match the dial.

The chronographs are fitted with an L688.2 column-wheel movement specially developed and produced by ETA exclusively for Longines. The case is made of steel, steel and rose gold or, for certain models, rose gold alone, and is available in two diameter sizes: 39 mm and 41 mm. The silvered or black dial shows the hours and minutes and has a small seconds at 9 o'clock and a date aperture as well as the chronograph functions: a centre sweep seconds, a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock and a 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock. These chronographs are fitted on a black or brown alligator strap or on a steel or steel and rose gold bracelet, all having a folding safety clasp.
Finally, a prestige model embodies the quintessence of Longines' watchmaking know-how. This timepiece, with a diameter of 44 mm, houses calibre L707, specially developed and produced by ETA exclusively for Longines. There is a choice of a black or silvered dial featuring 12 Arabic numerals and showing four retrograde functions (day of the week at 12 o'clock, date on the right-hand side of the dial, second time-zone with a 24-hour scale on the left-hand side of the dial and a small seconds at 6 o'clock) as well as day/night and the phases of the moon. These exclusive models are mounted on a black or brown alligator strap, or a steel bracelet to match the rest of the design, all with a folding safety clasp.
Longines has been based at Saint-Imier, Switzerland, since 1832. It is celebrating 180 years of non-stop craftsmanship in 2012 and its watchmaking expertise reflects a b devotion to tradition, elegance and performance. It has generations of experience as the official timekeeper at world championships and as a partner of international sports federations. Over the years, the brand has built b and long-lasting links with the equestrian sports. Longines is a member of The Swatch Group S.A., the world's leading manufacturer of horological products. With an excellent reputation for creating refined timepieces, the brand, whose emblem is the winged hourglass, has outlets in over 130 countries.

To round up the season, the Swiss watch brand awarded Beezie Madden (USA) and Eric Lamaze (CAN) at the CHIO Rotterdam, the final stage of the season. Longines would like to congratulate them on their distinctive elegance as well as on their exceptional sporting performance throughout the 2011 Nations Cup season. American rider Beezie Madden also won the Longines Grand Prix Port of Rotterdam.

Longines is proud to have served for the sixth consecutive time as official partner, timekeeper and title sponsor of the Longines Grand Prix Port of Rotterdam at the CHIO Rotterdam.
Among the best performing riders throughout the six previous CSIO events (La Baule, Rome, St. Gallen, Falsterbo, Hickstead and Dublin), Beezie Madden (USA) on Coral Reef Via Volo and Eric Lamaze (CAN) on Hickstead convinced the international jury of equestrian experts most with their incomparable elegance at the CHIO Rotterdam.
Beezie Madden said: "I am very happy to have won the Longines Press Award for Elegance. To me, when you ride with elegance, it means that you probably do most things right with your horse".

Eric Lamaze said: "I was surprised to be awarded with this prize. I am very thankful and honoured. I have to say my horse Hickstead is very elegant and it was very helpful."
Both riders have been awarded yesterday the 2011 Longines Press Award for Elegance receiving a trophy, a set of Longines watches and a cheque for 20,000 Swiss francs.

Beezie Madden has been the queen of the day as she also won the last Grand Prix Longines of the season, namely the Longines Grand Prix Port of Rotterdam. Eric Lamaze also achieved a great performance in Rotterdam by winning two competitions.
Despite the difficult weather conditions, the CHIO Rotterdam was very successful. A brand new grandstand has been inaugurated on Friday 26th August in presence of Prince Willem Alexander.

  • Longines - Ladies Diamond Conquest

As part of The Longines Sport Collection, the Conquest line has been given extra sparkle thanks to the scattering of diamonds. A first glittering model is set with 120 diamonds around the bezel while a second model combines the brilliance of these precious stones with the strength of ceramic. The dynamic beauty of the Ladies Diamond Conquest models, achieved through a marriage of sporty design and glittering diamonds, echoes the fine balance between performance and elegance that characterises the Conquest line. Sporty women who appreciate elegance will find exactly what they are looking for in the new Ladies Diamond Conquest.

The Conquest line is aimed at those women who enjoy sport but are not willing to compromise on elegance. Thanks to the use of diamonds and the innovative combination with ceramic, the new models in this line add a touch of sophistication to the sporty beauty of Longines' range of products. With its delicate balance, the Ladies Diamond Conquest watch is the ideal watch to weapon many sporting occasions; during an equestrian competition, a tennis tournament or while having fun on the ski slopes, but in the same vein it will add a touch of elegance worn for a cocktail party or a formal dinner.

Ladies Diamond Conquest is available in two versions.
The first has a bezel set with 120 Top Wesselton VVS diamonds, with a white mother-of-pearl or a black dial set with 11 diamonds as indices. This glittering timepiece with its sporty elegance is mounted on a stainless steel or a black or white ceramic bracelet. The second version boasts a dynamic beauty which has been achieved by the use of ceramic embellished with 54 Top Wesselton VVS diamonds set around the inside of the bezel and on the dial. The bezel and the bracelet are reinforced by the use of white or black ceramic while the matching dial - white mother-of-pearl or black - completes the appeal of this model. A special version is also available mounted on a steel bracelet. The Ladies Diamond Conquest line now includes thus eight new models.

As with all the models in the line, the Ladies Diamond Conquest has a screw-in back cover while the crown has a lateral protection. These new models are water-resistant to 5 bar and the bracelets have a folding safety clasp. The stainless steel case has a diameter of 35 mm and houses a quartz movement that shows the hours, minutes, seconds and date.

Thanks to their delicate balance between performance and elegance, these robust timepieces are ideal for women who enjoy sport but at the same time appreciate refinement. The Ladies Diamond Conquest models have added a new dimension to the Conquest line thanks to the inclusion of diamonds and the combination of these precious gems with the strength of ceramic.

  • Longines - History 1832 - 1860s - 1880s

1832s: The birth of LonginesThe Longines story began in 1832 when Auguste Agassiz moved to the tiny Swiss town of Saint-Imier and found work at the Comptoir horloger Raiguel Jeune, a watch parts trader. A year later, he and two associates, Florian Morel and Henri Raiguel, set up the Comptoir Raiguel Jeune & Cie. One of Agassiz's sisters, Olympe, then married Charles-Marc Francillon, a Lausanne-born businessman, and in 1834 they had a son, Ernest. When Henri Raiguel retired, in 1838, ownership of what had become Comptoir Agassiz & Cie passed to Auguste Agassiz and Florian Morel. In 1847, Auguste Agassiz became the venture's sole owner. In 1852, his nephew Ernest Francillon joined the company, finally taking over from his uncle in 1862. Now styled Ancienne Maison Auguste Agassiz, Ernest Francillon, Successeur, the company was ready for business. At that time, watchmaking in the area was still largely a cottage industry, with all the work done at home on parts later assembled elsewhere.1860s: The first Longines watchIn 1866, Francillon acquired two plots of land on the outskirts of Saint-Imier, on the right bank of the Suze river near a place called Les Longines (meaning "long and narrow fields " in the dialectal French of the area). There he built the first Longines factory, an investment that finally allowed him to gather his entire workforce under one roof for the first time.In 1867, Longines' first movement, called L20A, entered production in the new premises. At the time, watches were all key-wound. Longines' first watch broke with this tradition, its lever movement being wound and set by the crown. Ernest Francillon personally presented his novel timepiece at the 1867 Universal Exhibition in Paris. He returned to Saint-Imier with a bronze medal.Starting with his very first watch movement in 1867, Francillon's entire production featured the engraving of a winged hourglass as identification. By 1874, the company had already sent out its first circular warning customers against counterfeit movements.1880s: Registration of the Longines name and trademarkOn July 19th, 1880, at 11:00 am, Ernest Francillon entered the premises of the Swiss Federal Office of Intellectual Property to register the original Longines brand and its winged hourglass symbol under numbers 118 and 119 respectively. The new Longines logotype was first registered under number 2684 at 4:00 pm on May 27th, 1889 at the Swiss Federal Office of Intellectual Property and under number 14 on March 27th, 1893 at the International Office of Intellectual Property (today WIPO, World Intellectual Property Organization).Universal Exhibitions
In 1885, Longines won its first Grand Prix at the Universal Exhibition in Antwerp. Further success followed in Brussels, in 1897, Paris in 1889, 1900 and 1925, Milan, in 1906, Genoa, in 1914, Bern, in 1914, Philadelphia, in 1926 and Barcelona, in 1929. Longines' record of ten Grand Prix and 28 Gold Medals has never been equalled by any other watch manufacturer.

  • Longines - A new Ambassador of Elegance

Agnieszka is joining the family of Longines testimonials that includes the legendary couple Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf.
Longines is proud of its long history of sports timekeeping. As the official partner of the legendary French Open at Roland Garros since 2007, the Swiss watch manufacturer is delighted to be able to include in its family of ambassadors of elegance two of the most famous winners of the prestigious Paris tournament, Stefanie Graf and Andre Agassi. Incidentally, the couple will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of their triumph in Paris on 6 June at a Longines event not to be missed.

Agnieszka Radwanska will also be present and will be making her first international appearance as a Longines Ambassador of Elegance. The young talent will of course also be competing at the French Open this year for the third consecutive time.
This young player is the product of a family success story. Like her illustrious predecessor Stefanie Graf, Agnieszka started playing tennis at the age of 4, spurred on by her father. She grew up and trained in Gronau in Germany. After going professional in 2005 she succeeded in reaching the last 16 at Wimbledon that year. Agnieszka won her first tournaments (singles and doubles) two years later. In 2008 this young girl became the first-ever female Polish player to reach the top 10 in the world rankings.
A basically calm but extremely determined person, Agnieszka hopes to become the world no. 1 one day ... no more, no less!
What does Agnieszka think about her partnership with Longines? "It's a privilege to be a Longines Ambassador of Elegance. To represent this fantastic watch manufacturer alongside such tennis legends as Stefanie Graf and Andre Agassi is a real honour. I love Switzerland and I adore watches but until now I've never had a watch made by such a beautiful brand," she announced at her press conference in Warsaw.
On the subject of this new partnership, Walter von Känel, President of Longines, said that he was delighted to welcome the young Polish tennis player to the Longines family and was looking forward to congratulating her on her future successes.

  • Longines - Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf to the French Open!

There will be a special aspect to the French Open Tennis Tournament in Roland Garros this year: Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf will be present on 6 June to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their respective victories at this prestigious Parisian tournament. It is the ideal opportunity for Longines, the watchmaker for which they are Ambassadors of Elegance, to organise the event of the year around these two tennis legends and their charity foundations. Among other things the programme will include: 8 challenges between the two champions and budding stars from over ten different countries, a gala evening and a very special auction. The whole event will take place under the sign of elegance, the key characteristic of watches made by Longines, the Official Partner of Roland Garros since 2007.

Longines' history is closely linked to that of sports timing. As the Official Partner of the legendary French Open at Roland Garros since 2007, the brand has consolidated its links with the world of tennis by choosing Andre Agassi the same year and Stefanie Graf in 2008 as Ambassadors of Elegance. The couple share a love of excellence, elegance and beauty with the Swiss watch brand, together they embody the brand's values and slogan perfectly: "Elegance is an attitude". By supporting the respective charities of the two tennis legends Longines is once again reaffirming its humanitarian commitment.
First of all, two Longines Smash Corners will be installed to mark the occasion, one within the grounds of Roland Garros and the other in front of the Paris Town Hall. The idea of the Longines Smash Corners is for the public to test their tennis skills by measuring the speed of their service. By paying 2 Euros each person will be allowed 3 attempts and will go home with a certificate to show their performance. Longines will donate the money collected at the Longines Smash Corners to the two former champions' charities, namely the Andre Agassi Foundation and Children for Tomorrow.
Saturday 6 June 2009 promises to be a day of pure fun and excitement! The morning will be devoted to children. 16 budding champions of various nationalities will have the enormous honour of playing against Andre and Stefanie on the red sand of Roland Garros. The young players will be selected from countries ranging from France, Switzerland, Germany and Spain to China, Taiwan, Mexico, Singapore, Russia and Poland. Two will be chosen from the USA, namely from the Andre Agassi Foundation. The event will comprise eight matches featuring Andre Agassi against one child and Stefanie Graf against a different child. For every challenge, Longines will donate USD 10,000 to the foundation set up by the former tennis star who has won. There will be an audience of 650 people for the eight challenge matches.
The tennis session will be followed by a photo shoot and a press conference. The press will thus be able to interview Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf. During the press conference speeches will be given by members of the Swatch Group and Longines management.
A new setting, a different atmosphere. A gala evening which promises to be one series of superlatives will be held in the majestic Pavillon Cambon Capucines. An entrancing setting, a dazzling guest list, tennis stars, celebrities from the world of show business and politics - nothing has been left to chance for what promises to be an unforgettable evening!
The guests will be treated to the culinary specialities of one of the top Swiss chefs famed for his inventive dishes and the magic with which he updates traditional recipes. During the evening speeches will be given by representatives of Longines and the two charity foundations. The dinner will be followed by an auction of two Longines watches specially created to mark the occasion. The money raised from this auction will of course be donated to the Andre Agassi Foundation and Children for Tomorrow.
