  • Longines - New partnership in the equestrian sports

The concept of the Jumping Longines of Crans-Montana seduced the watch brand: Longines becomes the Title Partner and Official Timekeeper of the show-jumping event taking place in summer 2016. Longines is partnering with an event which will be featuring high-level equestrian sports, while its values are in line with the ones dear to the Swiss watch company.

The Jumping Longines of Crans-Montana will take place from 28 to 31 July 2016. It will be situated in the center of the famous tourist station, in the heart of the Valais. The event is set up by the association Jumping Crans-Montana, which relies on a committee of three members: François Besençon (President) and Yves Rytz, both of them bly involved in the world of equestrian sports in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, and Daniel Perroud, Director of the Jumping Longines of Crans-Montana and organiser of several sports event.

  • Eberhard & Co - Chrono 4, a straight line towards a sporting attitude

For almost a century, chronographs have been the core concern and primary passion of Eberhard & Co. Much like its La Chaux-de-Fonds headquarters inaugurated in 1907, an imposing building that towered over the centre of the watchmaking town for several years, the brand has historically been a dominant force in the production of this type of timepiece. In 1919, it launched the first wrist chronograph, and then in 1938 the first chronograph to feature an hours counter, followed the next year by the first chronograph enabling double timing by means of a new "split-seconds" device. In the wake of the quartz crisis, Eberhard & Co. remained as passionately dedicated as ever to this watchmaking genre, since it was the first back on the market with a mechanical chronograph.

During World War II, Eberhard & Co. with its Magini System watch, a split-second chronograph, was one of the two watch industry protagonists - along with Longines - contributing to a feat accomplished by the Italian air force: a secret flight from Rome to Tokyo and back achieved thanks to these two timepieces. During the latter half of the 20th century, Eberhard & Co. launched several chronograph collections including the famous Extra-Fort, Contograf and Tazio Nuvolari lines.

Eberhard & Co. kicked off the 21st century with another world-first, this time not on a technical level but rather in terms of design. Released in 2001, the Chrono 4 pioneered a new dial counter layout. Instead of previous arrangements involving counters at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock, and sometimes a fourth at 12 o'clock, this model featured four horizontally aligned counters. This patented design echoes that of racing car dashboards and has become an unmistakable signature feature of the Eberhard & Co. brand.

30-minute and 12-hour chronograph counters, along with 24-hour and small seconds subdials, compose the line of four displays on the Chrono 4 model. Working on an ETA 2892 base calibre, the brand's makers developed the Eberhard & Co. system that lends a particularly dynamic touch to the functions of this sporty timepiece, complemented by the date at 12 o'clock and a tachymetric scale.

The Chrono 4 collection is interpreted in several sizes. The original 40mm model was enlarged to "Grande Taille" (43mm) and "Geant" versions respectively introduced in 2008 and 2010. While most of them have a steel case that underscores their sporting style, the 40mm models also come in pink gold. They feature a white, black or blue dial with tone-on-tone or contrasting counters and subdials, along with raised rims, luminescent hour-markers, dagger-shaped hands and a choice between a steel bracelet and a leather or rubber strap.
The Grande Taille steel models with a rubber strap are distinguished by rubber inserts on the screw-lock crowns and several versions are enlivened with colourful accents (counter hands, hour-markers, the tips of the hours and minutes hands), while a limited edition commemorating the 10th birthday of the collection is recognisable by its large red Roman X numeral. .

The "Geant" versions stand out with their sturdy 46mm steel or titanium case, water-resistant to 200m and topped by a unidirectional rotating bezel. Last but not least, the line is topped in fierce style by a "Full Injection" limited edition: a dark carbon-coated steel colossus with an ultra-dynamic rubber strap, while nonetheless flaunting the elegance of a dial adorned with a Côtes de Geneve motif.

After inventing in-line counters, Eberhard & Co. came up with the idea of pivoting its counters to appear in a vertical line - and this time in a tonneau-shaped rather than a round case. 2005 thus witnessed the emergence of the surprising Chrono 4 Temerario with its counters arranged in a column on the right-hand side of the dial. This model also featured a patented access system to the crown, which opens by a lever hidden on the back of the case at 12 o'clock.

The Chrono 4 collection is also enriched with Bellissimo creations that certainly live up to their name. These less sporty-looking models come with a slimmer 40mm case and more discreet pushpieces. The traditional white, black or blue dials are joined by an innovative new apricot shade that gives a distinctively vintage look to that particular variation, and all are graced with applied rhodiumed Roman numerals and cut-out hands. For the first time in the Chrono 4 collection, the Belissimo Vitre interpretations are fitted with a sapphire crystal caseback revealing the self-winding calibre. And finally, the luxurious Coeur Vitre version boasts a movement adorned with sophisticated hand-crafted decorations.

  • Longines - Longines Masters of Los Angeles

This event inaugurated the newly named Longines Masters, a series combining the very best sports level with the most elegant lifestyle on a unique staging. During the four days of the event, the guests had the chance to experience exceptional and exhilarating show jumping competitions while also enjoying various social events that celebrated the glamorous Los Angeles spirit.

On the sporting side, Longines gave its name to some highlights of the Longines Masters of Los Angeles: the Longines Speed Challenge on Friday, won by Ireland's Bertram Allen on Quiet Easy 4 and the Longines Grand Prix on Sunday, claimed by Germany's Marco Kutscher on Van Gogh. In the former, the competitors' aim is to achieve the fastest time, knowing that 2 penalty seconds are added for each pole that is knocked down, while the latter celebrates the highest level of show jumping.

The brand also took part on Saturday in the Pro-Am "Style & Competition" for Charity, a class aiming at raising money for charitable organizations in a glamorous atmosphere. In this trial, each team consists of two riders, one from among the world's best professional riders and an "amateur". This year, Longines was supporting Jane Richard Phillips and Hannah Selleck, who competed for JustWorld International. This institution, founded by Jessica Newman in 2003, acts as a catalyst for positive change in the developing world by working with local partner organizations to provide basic education, nutrition, health, hygiene, and vocational programs for children in impoverished communities in Honduras, Cambodia, Guatemala, and Colombia.

The Longines DolceVita line was the Official Watch of the event. Inspired by the Italian sweet life, the "Dolce Vita", it is worn on the wrists of women who know how to make the most of life's simple pleasures. As a tribute to those ladies, Longines has decided to offer a new interpretation of this collection, subtly combining geometric lines with soft curves.

This device makes it possible to calculate the length of the dive. The tachymeter scale of the internal flange is used to calculate the speed of the diver: the chronograph must be triggered at the starting point and stopped once the distance of one kilometre is completed. The hand will indicate the average speed.

With a diameter of 42 mm, The Longines Heritage Diver 1967 case houses a self-winding L688.2 movement. This chronograph features a completely original design, reflecting the model that inspired it. It's silver-coloured asymmetrical counters stand out against the black opaline dial.

In the spirit of divers watches, the hands and hour markers are coated in Super-LumiNova® while the back and crown of the piece are screwed to ensure water resistance of up to 30 bar. The watches are fitted with a steel bracelet, black leather or rubber strap. An engraving of a diver adorns the caseback as a reminder of the first divers watches produced by Longines.

Longines will provide the On Venue Results (OVR) service that includes the handling, the processing and the broadcasting of the official times and scores of the different sport events.

Timekeeping itself is only a modest part in the global picture and Longines will rely on its long-lasting experience in complete data handling for Glasgow 2014. Any score, distance, name, team, ranking and time requires technology to instantly process and distribute it as TV graphics for television networks. • Longines - Federica Rossi wins the Longines Future Tennis Aces 2014

This year, the tournament, organized by Longines since 2010, was held at an exceptional venue, on the Champ de Mars, with the Eiffel Tower as a backdrop.

After a week filled with emotional and thrilling moments for the 16 talented players under 13 years old coming from all over the world, the 2014 Longines Future Tennis Aces tournament went to a prefect close on Saturday, May 31st, with the victory of Federica Rossi (Italy) who defeated Daria Frayman (Russia).

The Longines Future Tennis Aces, organized by the Swiss watch brand for the fifth consecutive year, is supported by the FFT (French Federation of Tennis) and is in compliance with the French Open of Roland-Garros, of which Longines is Official Partner and Official Timekeeper. • Longines - The Heritage Diver, two versions

The name Longines has long been associated with breathtaking feats achieved by pioneers who have always dared to go beyond their limits, notably in underwater exploration. In the 1950s the brand supplied measuring instruments for the bathyscaphe Trieste, which set a diving record in 1953. In addition to technical equipment, Longines also produced robust and reliable watches intended for use by keen amateur divers. Dating from the 1970s, two such models have been taken as inspiration for the new The Longines Heritage Diver watch.

Available in two versions, one with three hands and the other a chronograph, these new models boast a black, satin-finish dial that elegantly combines red highlights with details coated with Super-LumiNova®. Moreover, both versions feature a bidirectional rotating inner flange. Like the original creations, the two new models have a diameter of 43 mm. The case back, crown and bezel are screwed in, thus ensuring water-resistance to 30 bar (300 metres). The cushion-shaped steel case has a brushed sunburst decoration on the upper surface and is polished around the sides. The case back is engraved with the figure of a diver, recalling the first diving watches produced by Longines.

The model with 3 hands differs from the other with its daring mix of colours set off by the black dial, namely one red hand and red minute zones, touches of Super-LumiNova® coating and grey rhodium plating. The graduated scale from 0 up to 60 enables the diver to calculate how long he or she has been underwater by synchronising the 12 o'clock hour symbol with the minute hand. The inner flange is activated using the crown at 2 o'clock. The chronograph version boasts the same colour scheme, but in contrast the graduated scale on the flange goes from 60 down to 0. This enables the diver to calculate the remaining time, for example to allow for decompression when returning to the surface, by synchronising a given point with the minute hand. The new The Longines Heritage Diver watches are fitted on a black synthetic or rubber strap.

  • Longines - Longines times the triple crown of thoroughbred racing

The 140th Kentucky Derby was held this past weekend in Louisville, KY, and kicked off the first in the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing. Right there through it all - the entire Kentucky Derby weekend and for the upcoming races - is Longines. In fact, Longines is the Official Watch and Timekeeper of the   Kentucky Derby, the Entitlement Partner of the Longines Kentucky Oaks 140 that is the races and festivities that take place the day before the Derby, and the Official Watch and Timekeeper of the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes (the upcoming two legs of the Triple Crown).

The brand's role in equestrian sports dates back to the late 1800s when it created its first chronograph movement, which later appeared on racetracks to time performances and races to the seconds. In the early 1900's Longines began its show jumping involvement and then moved on to flat racing and endurance competitions -- where precision is everything.

The Kentucky Derby represents the epitome of thoroughbred racing and Longines provided its guests with access not only to the Turf Club for prime viewing of the two days of races, but also with attendance to the incredible Taste of Derby event (wherein chefs from across the USA are flown in to demonstrate their skills and offer a taste of their most special dishes), to the Winner's Party (thrown after the Derby with the owners, trainer and jockey of the winning horse present), and with an exclusive tour of the paddocks. In all, the event is a breathtaking experience not to be missed.

In evidence of its support of the Kentucky Derby, Longines' overwhelming presence could be seen everywhere at Churchill Downs thanks to free-standing clocks, a digital Longines Kentucky Derby Countdown Clock on the Churchill Downs' track and more (the same will hold true at the two upcoming races). Additionally, the brand hosted a fashion show on the Kentucky Oaks Day, and presented the winner with a Conquest watch. On Derby Day, the brand presented Conquest watches to the owner, trainer and jockey of the wining horse, California Chrome.

"This year we celebrate 60 years of Conquest," says Juan-Carolos Capelli, vice president, head of international marketing of Longines Watch Co. "It is also the year of the horse and so we are very excited to present some new Conquest watches, including a limited edition in gold that is a re-edition of the first one. It is a real pleasure to be a part of the Kentucky Derby and all of the equestrian sports we support."

The Conquest Classic collection is a tribute to the early chronographs the brand produced for race enthusiasts and jockeys in New York. The new watches are fitted with self-winding movements offering a mix of tradition and watchmaking savoir-faire.

  • Longines - China Equine Cultural Festival

Hohhot, a north-central city, known for its nomadic history and natural scenery, experienced tremendous excitement and elegance thanks to eight flat races on Saturday and to the presence of Aaron Kwok, Longines Ambassador of Elegance.  On Saturday, Longines was also the Title Partner of the Longines Mile race that saw the victory of Danny Beasley on Nassau.
The running of the first internationally endorsed thoroughbred race represents the first step towards a renaissance of flat races in Mainland China. It was a highly anticipated return for a sport that has long been an intrinsic part of China's social culture. Miss Melissa Lu won the Longines Prize for Elegance and received a Longines timepiece from Aaron Kwok, Longines Ambassador of Elegance. A horse lover, the Asian superstar is a member of the Hong Kong Jockey Club and the owner of a four-year-old stallion.
Longines has always had a passionate interest in equestrian sport, which is a perfect example of elegance and high performance - values that have always been close to the brand's heart. Its rectangular case is set with 32 diamonds. The dial is white with 10 indices and 1 silvered Arabic numeral. A quartz movement, the calibre L178, animates the timepiece.
Longines' three ambassadors of elegance, the Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet, the Bollywood icon Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and the beautiful actress and model from the Far East Chi Ling Lin, enjoy their first roles in the Longines DolceVita advertising spot that gives a contemporary twist to the traditional dolce vita. The film uses the particular atmosphere of the streets of old Rome, bathed in sunlight, as well as the natural elegance of the brand's three amazons.

  • Lifestyle - Every Day Timing

    Worldtempus - 12 March 2013
There are a host of wonderful timepieces on the market that fit in any woman's daily life - from getting the kids off to school, to managing business meetings, and going out after work with co-workers. Generally, these watches are strap or bracelet watches and often add a twist of versatility via either interchangeable straps or two-tone appeal. Indeed, with the price of an ounce of gold continually in the high retail prices, savvy dressers are looking for ways to mix gold with white metals such as sterling silver and stainless steel to get the most of today's best accessories looks for a more affordable price.

Often, too, these watches have a little extra function to them. Some may sport a date indicator, a sub seconds dial or a chronograph. Top watch brands today totally understand the concept of ease and comfort on the wrist for daily needs, and are complying by offering some of the trendiest, but timelessly elegant, watches on the market. Most often these watches are an insatiable mix of stainless steel and rose gold tones - often with a shimmering accent of diamonds to bring the look all together for a day to night appeal. What's more, today's trends are calling for slightly smaller watches, so most of these beauties are a sleek 30 to 34mm in diameter - perfect for any wrist.

Among the top brands in this arena are Baume & Mercier, with its classic Linea line that features interchangeable straps and bracelets that the wearer can easily change to match her any mood. In fact, recently, the brand even teamed with actress Emmanuelle Chriqui to design a strap for Linea. The result is a sporty chic woven strap in orange, tan and white.

Similarly, brands such as Longines and Raymond Weil are also on top of trends with two-tone bracelet looks and seasonal color strap watches that let women mix and match their jewelry wardrobe and always be in style. For everyday living and easy wearability in any situation, basic is beautiful.

  • Longines - History on the Racetrack

Last year after Longines' elegant event (can we link to my story from 9.5.11 here?), I reported how I kept betting on jockey Andrasch Starke in the wrong races. Learning from my mistakes, I bet on him when it counted. As did the stall that brought Danedream to Iffezheim, Germany's premier horse racing event.
Over the weekend, I kept thinking of how Danedream's story reminded me a lot of Seabiscuit, the horse who made it to Hollywood. A German thoroughbred racehorse who no one wanted at the beginning (her eventual owners only paid € 9,000 for her), four-year-old Danedream is the most successful racehorse to ever come from Germany. Her races were chiefly won in 2011 and 2012. This past weekend she raced for the last time in Iffezheim: apparently racehorses retire at the zenith of their careers.

This is all great news for Longines, as the interest surrounding Danedream led the main Iffezheim race called the Grosser Preis von Baden - in which Longines offered a total of 250,000 euros and the prize of honor, including a watch, to the winners - to be nationally and internationally televised, preempting even soccer on German television.

    Grand Prix for a Hat
The Iffezheim week is a highpoint of the social calendar in the Germany's Baden in addition to being the most important event on Germany's horseracing calendar. In addition to participating in the grand prix ball celebrating the sporting occasion, Longines, the event's timing partner, also awarded the Longines Prize for Elegance to the most elegant female visitor to the races. As you probably know, hats are grand tradition at equestrian sporting events, one that is also honored in Germany. Congratulations to Ines Wallraff for going home with a timepiece from the Saint-Imier Collection as well as a beautifully sunny day at the races.

  • Tissot and Longines - Powerhouse Numbers

    Worldtempus - 12 March 2012

Tissot sold more than three million watches in 2011 and Swatch Group colleague Longines passed the one million mark in 2011. In other words, these two Swatch Group companies comfortably perch on many wrists around the world, not the least of whom are located in China - which undoubtedly is these two brands' biggest single market.
    The tactile success
"13 years ago Mr. Hayek asked who wanted to produce a tactile watch, and I was the only one who raised my hand," Tissot CEO Francois Thiebaud said.
The tactile watch, of course, is the highly successful T-Touch, a multifunctional watch that has been a pearl of the Tissot collection since its launch in 1999. "I am a private pilot myself and enjoy a multifunctional watch," Thiebaud revealed. "I had no doubt about the success of this kind of technology put into a wristwatch"

    No regrets
"The T-Touch collection today accounts for more than 250,000 pieces of our annual sales," Thiebaud revealed, clearly not regretting his choice of production at the fateful Swatch Group meeting 13 years ago.
The success of the T-Touch, however, is not the only reason why he is all smiles. The company he captains experienced a sales increase of 45 percent from 2009 through 2011 - years in which many other brands struggled. This primarily occurred thanks to the huge demand from Chinese clients buying both from their mainland retailers and foreign outlets when traveling.
With an average price of 200-500 Swiss francs, Tissot offers both classic Swiss timepieces and innovative, sporty watches such as the T-Touch. Thiebaud and Tissot must be doing something right since one in five exported Swiss watches is a Tissot. "We sold 3.4 million watches in 2011 and I expect to sell four million watches in 2012," Thiebaud smiled.

    Understanding the Chinese
How did Tissot become so hugely popular in China? We asked Longines CEO Walther von Känel, one of the most experienced and respected CEOs in the Swiss watchmaking industry, attending his 37th Baselworld.
"Longines sent its first invoice to Chinese clients back in 1867. Our history with the Chinese market goes way back. I visited China for the first time in 1971 and made business directly with the government. A few years later, the first Chinese delegation visited Switzerland," von Känel explained his first acquaintance with the largest consumer of Swiss watches today.
"In the 1980s, we opened our first representative office in mainland China (including Omega and Tissot --ed). Doing this gave us the opportunity to study the culture and get to know the Chinese customer up close," von Känel explained. "Understanding local culture is essential for any sale."

    One million watches
Longines produces watches that are b in the 1000-1300 Swiss franc segment. "We passed one million watches in 2011," von Känel revealed. "That means that we sell 6-7,000 watches a day of sales," he laughed, declining to comment on what markets will come after BRIC.
"Longines is everywhere. Right now in China there's no limit for the next ten years. As long as Longines stays focused and maintains our continuing production and consistent quality and development then we will stay on top of the world. As I tell my colleagues every year, we need to reach the magic numbers and stay positive," von Känel leaned in over the table to emphasize his remark.

  • Longines - The Column-Wheel Chronograph Record

Longines has passed a new milestone in its exploration of timepieces fitted with authentic technical features by creating, The Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph Record, which has a direct-drive second hand with a vernier scale. Back in 2008 the company used a chronograph movement with a column wheel in the design of a contemporary embodiment of its expertise in mechanical chronographs this new model showcases the horological development and elegant appeal in the same vein.

The Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph Record combines various elements that make this brand-new watch a modern descendant of the timing instruments created by Longines in the past. Thanks to its exclusive column-wheel movement, it joins the lineage of equipment developed by the brand since 1878, when Longines produced its first chronograph. Moreover, The Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph Record has a centre direct-drive second hand with a vernier scale - echoing a mechanical chronograph counter designed by the company in 1966. This system allows the user to read off the time measured easily and precisely using the position of the centre seconds hand with its vernier scale relative to the fixed scale on the dial. The centre direct-drive seconds hand with its vernier scale brings it into line with the most up-to-date mechanical timing equipment available today.

The Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph Record has a sporty design which complements its chronograph functions. The self-winding movement is housed in a stainless steel case with a diameter of 41 mm. The cream or black dial has a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock, a small seconds at 9 o'clock and a date aperture between 4 and 5 o'clock. The hands are coated with Super-LumiNova while the red centre dragging seconds hand with its vernier scale is complemented by a fixed scale on the dial which enables the user to read off eighths of a second. Echoing the timing equipment produced by Longines in the 1960s, The Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph Record is fitted on an elegant black alligator strap.

Fitted with 27 jewels, the L688.2 movement is a self-winding calibre with a diameter of 30 mm and a height of 7.90 mm. The column wheel which is part of the movement serves to steer the chronograph functions (start, stop, return to zero). This system, and in particular the column wheel that was designed by engineers at ETA on Longines' request, makes this mechanical chronograph exceptionally easy to use, requiring only a light pressure to start and stop the timing function and to return the hands to zero. The blued steel column wheel is a work of art and the whole movement is a stylised revamping of a traditional technical system. Apart from its sophisticated design, the construction of the L688.2 calibre has been especially created to meet the requirements of timing.

With its combination of timing functions and a beauty that is characteristic of timing equipment dating from the 1960s, The Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph Record is a contemporary timepiece steeped in the great tradition of mechanical timing.

  • Longines - Anna Bessonova wins the Prize for Elegance

Longines, official timekeeper and data handler at the 29th Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships 2009, is pleased to announce that the Longines Prize for Elegance has been given to Anna Bessonova from the Ukraine. This award decorates the athlete having demonstrated the most remarkable elegance in the course of an international competition at world level. Prize winner Anna Bessonova was honoured with a trophy created by the Swiss artist Jean-Pierre Gerber, a Conquest watch from the Longines Sport Collection and a cheque for US$ 5,000. Furthermore, Longines was proud to present its new Ambassador of Elegance, Evgeniya Kanaeva, the Olympic all-around gold medalist. She impressed the judges with her outstanding performance and won the 2009 World Champion title in individual all-around today.

In gymnastics, the challenge of movement not only demands flawless execution, but also intangible grace, beauty and harmony known as "elegance". At the 29th Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships, all participants in the individual all-around finals held on Friday September 11, 2009 were nominated for the Longines Prize for Elegance.
The athletes under consideration for the prize are evaluated according to a number of complementary criteria. In addition to technical considerations, each athlete's performance is judged with respect to emotional appeal, beauty, charm, charisma as well as grace and harmony of movement. Clearly, each juror interprets these criteria individually, yet the result is often unanimous, as it was again on this occasion.

The jury of the Longines Prize for Elegance brought together Dr. Bruno Grandi, President of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), Mrs. Eriko Hayashi (Hayashi Tokeiho), Minoru Amano, Brand Manager for Longines Japan and Juan-Carlos Capelli, Head of International Marketing, Longines. The jury's individual assessments were combined to form a collective judgment reflecting a perceptive and balanced evaluation of the athletes' performances.
    Anna Bessonova
Anna Bessonova's elegance is bewitching. Her grace wins the favour of any public. Her technique speaks for itself. At the 2005 world championships in Baku, Anna lined her nest with a world title, for the first time in her prestigious career. In 2007, at the World Championships in Patras, Anna already won the Longines Prize for Elegance. In 2008, at the Beijing Olympic Games she won the Bronze medal. Anna Bessonova is definitely one of the brightest stars of Rhythmic Gymnastics today.
Anna Bessonova has a reputation for elegant and graceful performance, which led Longines' Head of International Marketing, Juan-Carlos Capelli to comment: "With her fluidity and harmony, Anna is simply the definition of elegance."

The Longines Prize for Elegance is presented in the form of a trophy created especially for Longines by the Swiss artist Jean-Pierre Gerber. In addition, Anna Bessonova received a cheque for US$ 5,000 and the official watch of the 29th Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships, a Conquest model of the Longines Sport Collection, representing the elegance that is Longines' guiding principle.
Longines also took the opportunity to give a Conquest watch to its new Ambassador of Elegance, the 2008 Olympic gold medallist, Russian rhythmic gymnast, Evgeniya Kanaeva, who won the 2009 World Champion title in individual all-around today in Mie.

  • Longines - Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf to the French Open!

There will be a special aspect to the French Open Tennis Tournament in Roland Garros this year: Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf will be present on 6 June to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their respective victories at this prestigious Parisian tournament. It is the ideal opportunity for Longines, the watchmaker for which they are Ambassadors of Elegance, to organise the event of the year around these two tennis legends and their charity foundations. Among other things the programme will include: 8 challenges between the two champions and budding stars from over ten different countries, a gala evening and a very special auction. The whole event will take place under the sign of elegance, the key characteristic of watches made by Longines, the Official Partner of Roland Garros since 2007.

Longines' history is closely linked to that of sports timing. As the Official Partner of the legendary French Open at Roland Garros since 2007, the brand has consolidated its links with the world of tennis by choosing Andre Agassi the same year and Stefanie Graf in 2008 as Ambassadors of Elegance. The couple share a love of excellence, elegance and beauty with the Swiss watch brand, together they embody the brand's values and slogan perfectly: "Elegance is an attitude". By supporting the respective charities of the two tennis legends Longines is once again reaffirming its humanitarian commitment.
First of all, two Longines Smash Corners will be installed to mark the occasion, one within the grounds of Roland Garros and the other in front of the Paris Town Hall. The idea of the Longines Smash Corners is for the public to test their tennis skills by measuring the speed of their service. By paying 2 Euros each person will be allowed 3 attempts and will go home with a certificate to show their performance. Longines will donate the money collected at the Longines Smash Corners to the two former champions' charities, namely the Andre Agassi Foundation and Children for Tomorrow.
Saturday 6 June 2009 promises to be a day of pure fun and excitement! The morning will be devoted to children. 16 budding champions of various nationalities will have the enormous honour of playing against Andre and Stefanie on the red sand of Roland Garros. The young players will be selected from countries ranging from France, Switzerland, Germany and Spain to China, Taiwan, Mexico, Singapore, Russia and Poland. Two will be chosen from the USA, namely from the Andre Agassi Foundation. The event will comprise eight matches featuring Andre Agassi against one child and Stefanie Graf against a different child. For every challenge, Longines will donate USD 10,000 to the foundation set up by the former tennis star who has won. There will be an audience of 650 people for the eight challenge matches.
The tennis session will be followed by a photo shoot and a press conference. The press will thus be able to interview Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf. During the press conference speeches will be given by members of the Swatch Group and Longines management.
A new setting, a different atmosphere. A gala evening which promises to be one series of superlatives will be held in the majestic Pavillon Cambon Capucines. An entrancing setting, a dazzling guest list, tennis stars, celebrities from the world of show business and politics - nothing has been left to chance for what promises to be an unforgettable evening!
The guests will be treated to the culinary specialities of one of the top Swiss chefs famed for his inventive dishes and the magic with which he updates traditional recipes. During the evening speeches will be given by representatives of Longines and the two charity foundations. The dinner will be followed by an auction of two Longines watches specially created to mark the occasion. The money raised from this auction will of course be donated to the Andre Agassi Foundation and Children for Tomorrow.

  • Longines - Steffi Graff & Andre Agassi on film

Saint-Imier, 18th February 2009 - Married in real life, the two tennis legends and Longines Ambassadors of Elegance, Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf, have united on screen for the brand's latest advertising campaign shot in December 2008. The previous year Andre Agassi joined the family of Longines' ambassadors. The first spot showed the tennis star and the children supported by Agassi's charity, the Andre Agassi Foundation. The humanitarian ideals of the famous watch manufacturer and those of Agassi have a lot in common.

One year later, tennis legend Stefanie Graf also became a Longines Ambassador of Elegance. Under the dazzling Las Vegas sun a second film adventure began. Mandy Walker captures the magic of the couple's visit to the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy.

Longines' history is closely linked to that of sports timekeeping. As the official partner of the legendary Roland Garros tennis tournament since 2007, the brand has yet again reinforced its links with the world of tennis by choosing Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf as its Ambassadors of Elegance.

The couple share the watch brand's values of excellence, elegance, beauty and compassion, thus the perfect embodiment of Longines' famous slogan "Elegance is an attitude". By supporting the two tennis legends' charities Longines is demonstrating once again its humanitarian commitment.

Early December saw the start of filming in the warmth of the Las Vegas sun with the young director Terry Hall in the driver's seat. An advertising spot, but at the same time a real film, it captures the genuine heart-felt generosity and empathy of the couple. The commitment of Andre and Stefanie can be clearly seen in the work that their respective foundations do to help disadvantaged children.

Followed by Mandy Walker's camera, Andre Agassi visits various classes at the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy, which is supported by his Foundation. The youngest pupils are having a drawing lesson. After a good deal of laughter, the children concentrate on their masterpieces. Agassi looks at their work closely. The budding artists don't seem to be particularly intimidated by their famous visitor nor by the presence of the film crew.

For most of them, it is actually their second experience of filming because they were also featured in the first film made in 2007. What is more, the children are not acting because most of the little stars are students at the school that bears Andre Agassi's name. Mandy Walker zooms in on the tiny faces. A little girl looks at her quite openly and says "I learn effort." A young boy says "I learn respect."

The scene changes: a lawn basking in the sun, an ancient tree. The radiant Stefanie Graf is sitting with a group of children who are also drawing. Ms. Graf smiles and casts a caringeye over the group. The children speak to the camera again: "I learn to be myself," says one. A boy sitting next to Stefanie says "I learn to conquer my way." Stefanie looks at his drawing and realises that he is drawing her! A portrait of Andre then appears alongside hers.

The film ends with a close-up of the couple, who announce in unison "It's time to give a bit of your time to others" as an echo the Longines slogan appears on the screen and offers the final word: "Elegance is an attitude". The film offers a few moments of intimacy, generosity, humanity and sharing between the Swiss watch manufacturer and its two ambassadors.
