  • Longines Military 1938 (L2.788.4.53.0)

Had this for over 2 years now and has held up great. Altimeter works well as long as you adjust it to a known elevation. Elevation log is my favorite feature, perfect for alpine climbs or long trail runs. My only complaint would be the face gets scratched easily but that has happened to every watch I have so maybe it's me.

  • Longines - Horse racing

On Sunday 29 November 2015, Kenichi Ikezoe on Shonan Pandora crossed first the finishing line in front of a large audience at the Japan Cup in association with Longines. For this performance, Shonan Pandora's owner, breeder, trainer, jockey and stable staff members were awarded with elegant Longines watches by Mr. Walter von Känel, President of Longines, and Andre Agassi, Longines Ambassador of Elegance.

Inaugurated in 1981, the Japan Cup in association with Longines is a 2400 meter international Group 1 turf race for horses aged three-years-old and up. The race day is named after the most important race held this day. The brand is once again involved in this equestrian event of international importance, as its Official Partner, Timekeeper and Watch.
The Japan Cup in association with Longines was the occasion to discover the Official Watch, which was the Longines Master Collection watch which features a refined silvered dial with a chronograph and moonphase display, as well as a stainless steel case with a transparent case back that reveals a self-winding mechanical movement.

During the race day at Tokyo Racecourse, Longines celebrated feminine elegance and organized the Longines Prize for Elegance awarding the most stylish woman wearing an outfit in blue, which is the emblematic color of the watch brand. The winner of the prize, Kana Oya, received an elegant Longines watch from the hands of Andre Agassi, Longines Ambassador of Elegance.

  • Longines - Kate Winslet, ambassador, dedicated to bettering the lives of autistic individuals

The Swiss watchmaking company Longines boasts a long-lasting tradition of supporting charitable causes. The core values of the brand have always led Longines to serve philanthropic purposes and social responsibility remains today one of its priorities.

It is thus natural for Longines to bring its support to the Golden Hat Foundation. This charity, founded by Longines Ambassador of Elegance Kate Winslet, is dedicated to changing the way people on the autism spectrum are perceived, by shining a light on their abilities and emphasizing their great potential. With proper education and career training, these individuals can truly realize their dreams.

Kate Winslet, co-founder of the foundation stated: "It makes me incredibly proud to work on this effort to bring awareness to the plight of people with autism. I believe that all people with autism should be given the opportunity to learn to communicate, receive a suitable academic education and experience social relationships. As a Longines Ambassador of Elegance, I am really thrilled that Longines joins us to help spread the word."

Juan-Carlos Capelli, Vice President and Head of International Marketing of Longines said: "True to its values of excellence and elegance, Longines has always promoted the highest social ideals and it proudly collaborates with The Andre Agassi Foundation for Education and Stefanie Graf's Children for Tomorrow Foundation. It was therefore natural for the brand to also bring its support to The Golden Hat Foundation and Kate Winslet's work. Her inspiring endeavor truly translates the brand's motto and philosophy of "Elegance is an Attitude".

  • Longines - The Longines Column-Wheel Single Push-Piece Chronograph

Once again drawing from its long watchmaking tradition, Swiss watchmaker Longines is reissuing one of its period time pieces as a new addition to the Longines Column-Wheel Single Push-Piece Chronograph line. Longines' exclusive single push-piece column-wheel movement is housed in the sober watch case of this new model.

The transparent steel case back with a diameter of 41 mm reveals the minutiae of Longines' signature watch movement. The blued finish column wheel shows its perfectly symmetrical profile within this exclusive calibre. A single push-piece is used to control the chronograph's functions, reinforcing this model's sleek design. This refined chronograph also features a tachymeter scale.

The Longines Column-Wheel Single Push-Piece Chronograph displays a sober elegance, much like the model that inspired it. Available in black matte or white lacquer, its dial bears black or white contrasting Arabic numerals and a tachymeter scale. Its rhodium-plated or blued finish steel hands stand out, ensuring perfect reading. A black or brown leather strap completes this model.

  • Longines - The Longines Paris Eiffel Jumping

This weekend, the best riders and horses were gathered in the French capital for the Longines Paris Eiffel Jumping, the eighth stage of the Longines Global Champions Tour. On Saturday, after a thrilling trial, Bertram Allen on Romanov won the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Paris, followed by Diniz Luciana (Portugal) on Fit For Fun 13 and Darragh Kenny (Ireland) on Sans Souci Z.

For the second year running, the Longines Paris Eiffel Jumping is included in the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT), a prestigious 15-stage tour of which Longines is the Title Partner and Official Timekeeper since 2013. In addition, this 5* show jumping event, the highest category in the FEI's hierarchy, counts towards the world's ranking of the discipline: the Longines Rankings.

This event was the perfect opportunity to discover the Longines DolceVita collection. Since its inception, this line has illustrated worldwide the brand's contemporary elegance. This year Longines has decided to offer a new interpretation of this collection, subtly combining geometric lines with soft curves.
The Official Watch of the Longines Paris Eiffel Jumping, decorated with diamonds and cased in steel, features a silver-coloured "flinque" dial adorned with painted Roman numerals. Driven by their quartz movement, the blued-steel hands point to the passing hours and minutes. This timepiece is mounted on a stainless steel bracelet.

  • Longines - Longines Future Tennis Aces 2015

For the sixth successive year, Longines is inviting 16 promising young tennis players under the age of 13 - coming from 16 different countries - to showcase their talent in a competition worthy of the very greatest professional players: the Longines Future Tennis Aces tournament.
Held from 28th to 30th May, the 2015 tournament, enhanced by former French tennis player Arnaud Clement as its patron, will pit 16 youngsters against one another on a clay court installed in front of the Eiffel Tower. The winner will be awarded with a Longines watch, the tournament cup and an annual scholarship until his 16th birthday.
In addition, the final of the "Rendez-vous a Roland Garros" circuit, with which Longines has partnered for the first time this year, will be held on the very same court. The winners will receive a Wild Card, allowing them to compete against the best international players in the French Open's Junior tournament.

The visit to Paris for these future champions will start on 26th and 27th May with the Longines Academy, a training camp that will give them the opportunity to familiarise themselves with playing on clay and to receive precious technical tips from two specialists in the sport. Throughout the week, the players will receive encouragement from Arnaud Clement, who the finalists will get the chance to play against in the exhibition match to be held after the tournament's final on Saturday 30th.

The Longines Future Tennis Aces tournament is held during the first week of the French Open at Roland-Garros, of which Longines has been the Official Partner and Timekeeper since 2007. To mark this top-level sporting event, Longines is highlighting a new steel chronograph model, the Conquest Classic Moonphase, housing a self-winding mechanical movement.

This year, Longines has become the partner of the "Rendez-vous a Roland-Garros" tournaments being held in China and Brazil. These competitions aim to identify the best players on clay from their countries with a view to allowing them to fulfil their dream of participating in one of the most prestigious tournaments in the international tennis calendar. The two winners of each tournament (one male and one female) will play against one another in the competition's finals to be held in Paris on May 24, on the same court as the Longines Future Tennis Aces event.

  • Longines - Spring Classic of Flanders

The Longines Spring Classic of Flanders, which the Swiss watch brand is partnering and timekeeping, started 30 April in Lummen. During this four-day competition, Longines supported two major shows: The Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ on Friday 1 May and the Longines Grand Prix on Sunday 3 May. The team Italy won the first one, which is the first leg of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping Western European League 2015. The second one was won by Jerome Guery from Belgium.

As part of its long-term partnership with the FEI, including being the FEI's Official Timekeeper and Watch, Longines is the Official Timekeeper of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping series. The Official Watch of the 2015 Longines Spring Classic of Flanders edition was a stainless steel Conquest Classic Moonphase watch. This model houses a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement. Its refined silvered dial displays the moon phases, echoing the elegance and excellence of equestrian sport stars.

  • Longines - Walter von Känel - 46 years selling Longines watches

With the Apple Watch on everyone's lips, it's worth remembering that it has taken the Silicon Valley giant forty years to launch its first watch. Longines, headquartered in the sleepy valley town of St. Imier, has been producing timepieces since 1867. And while Apple may currently lay claim to one of the most valuable brands in the world, Longines has the oldest: its winged logo is the oldest valid trademark in the WIPO's International Registry.

The current CEO of Longines, Walter von Känel, joined the company in 1969 and is still there 46 years later. It is hardly surprising, therefore, that he is dismissive of the Apple Watch and smart watches in general. "In my 46 years at Longines I have experimented with digital," he says. "LCD was a Swiss patent, after all. Afterwards we did some LED watches and you can find them in the museum. Later ETA came with its digital/analogue movements and we launched the Speed5.
"I think the watches from Apple, Samsung and the like are complementary to what we do. I firmly believe that the essential objective of a watch is no longer just to tell the time but also to serve as a status symbol. Why do you buy a Patek Philippe rather than a Swatch? Because you want to show it off."

But the gulf between a Swatch and a Patek Philippe in terms of price and prestige is enormous. It took the world's biggest private collection of Swatches (5,800 in total) to make just a quarter of the proceeds of the record-breaking Patek Philippe Graves Supercomplication at auction. So where does Longines fit in to this equation?

"The watch is an emotional branded consumer good," explains von Känel, "which is why we invest millions in sponsorship, ambassadors and such." Indeed, Longines ensures a steady flow of news from its partnerships in the equestrian world, as well as in tennis and skiing. Nevertheless, since Mr von Känel comes from a background in sales, the bottom line is always the top consideration. At his meetings in Basel you will always find him with his four essential items: a heap of plastic-protected sheets of sales figures, best-sellers, breakdowns by country and product category and the like, a pencil, a pencil-sharpener and - somewhat unusually - a set of precision calipers dating back to 1969. Old school. Much to the chagrin of WorldTempus, he admits "I have no computer, my telephone is this old thing and I don't even reply to SMS messages."

His relentless focus on sales shows in his photographic recall of key statistics: 1.4 million Dolce Vita models sold, the exact split of two-tone models by sales when I question a potential change in strategy. And it is this focus that has led to the creation of a "fifth pillar" at the brand with a new collection dedicated solely to the brand's equestrian associations. "If we are going to invest millions in this area and be present at equestrian events almost every weekend, then we needed something more than the chronograph," he explains. "We needed a new collection, especially for women. But we are also working on a watch designed especially for show jumping."

Even a personal question on his favourite model in the collection comes back to sales. "We are investing heavily in promoting the Conquest Classic this year, which represents 7% of our sales, and we decided that the star model should be the two-tone steel and gold model with the moon phase. And since I have to be consistent I have to lead by example." There is no need to guess, therefore, which watch the Longines CEO has on his wrist.

Even given Walter von Känel's b sales background, it comes as somewhat a surprise when he claims that last year set a new sales record for Longines. Even in the troubled market of Hong Kong, which tourists from mainland China are now avoiding in favour of Korea and Thailand, the brand recorded 10% growth last year. Could it continue this year, despite the uncertain economic climate? "It looks that way," the boss confidently predicted on the opening day of Baselworld.

  • Longines - Longines Rising Star Award

On Sunday 14 December 2014, in Baku, Juan-Carlos Capelli, Vice-President and Head of International Marketing of Longines, presented for the second consecutive year the Longines Rising Star Award together with an elegant Longines watch to a young rising star in the equestrian sports. This year, the winner is the Mauritian vaulter Lambert Leclezio who demonstrated his remarkable performance and elegance on horseback. He also received an elegant Longines watch of the Conquest Classic collection. This stainless steel and pink gold watch features an exclusive Longines self-winding mechanical column wheel chronograph movement, a traditional and authentic technical device.

Lambert Leclezio is the first ever vaulter to win a FEI Award. At just 17 years old, he becomes the first athlete to represent his country at Championship level. Thanks to his admirable courage and determination, he grabs sixth place in the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

The FEI Awards were set up in 2009 and are presented each year to individuals and organizations notably contributing to progress and excellence in equestrian sports - both indoor and outdoor. The Longines Rising Star Award is more specifically intended for riders between the ages of 14 and 21 who have shown exceptional talent in their field as well as commitment. More generally, Longines attaches great importance to supporting young sportsmen and women.

  • Longines - The Twenty-Four Hours Single Push-Piece Chronograph

For its latest creation, the , the brand has replicated the lines of one of its pilot watch dating from the 1950s.

The 47.50 mm diameter of the original model has been reproduced, as well as the dial with its 24-hour scale, available in black or silver. The steel case has a closed back, decorated with Longines' famous hourglass symbol, in use since 1867. Each watch in this exceptional series is numbered.

houses the L789 self-winding, mechanical movement. This new column-wheel chronograph calibre, produced exclusively for Longines, is an adaptation of Longines' own single push-piece movement.
The watch features a chronograph function, displays the time on a 24-hour scale, and has a small seconds at 18 o'clock plus a date aperture at 12 o'clock, at the bottom of the dial. It is fitted on a black or brown alligator strap to match the colour of the dial.

  • Longines - Game, set & watch at Roland-Garros

Roland Garros - also known as the French Open - is the biggest clay court tennis tournament in the world and one of the four Grand Slam events that have been the pillars of the sport for more than a century. This weekend will determine who will be this year's champions, with the women's singles final (Maria Sharapova vs Simona Halep) today and the men's (Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovic) tomorrow; how long those finals will last no-one knows, but they will be timed by Longines - the Swatch Group brand that has been the official timekeeper of the tournament since 2007.

But does time really matter in tennis, since the scoring system theoretically allows a match to go on forever? Momentum is actually more important, yet there has been a timing controversy in the past few days: the only time limits in tennis are the ones in changeovers (1min.30) and between points (20s); Rafael Nadal, notorious for his elaborate routines before serving, received time violations for surpassing the allowed 20 seconds in his matches versus Dominic Thiem and Leonardo Mayer - voicing his frustration, even though he is one of the players that actually wear a watch on court (the Richard Mille RM27-01 Tourbillon Watch).

"The best thing would be to have countdown clock on the court", the Spanish champion grumbled. "That would allow us to know how many seconds we have left before serving!". Rafael Nadal feels that he is being targeted by the 'anti slow-play brigade' that has reduced the allowed time from 25 seconds to 20 seconds and strictly enforces the rule in his matches. There have been debates among officials whether adding a countdown clock would be a good idea. That would be a third clock on court, along with the existing two.

Official Timekeeper and a new watch
As official timekeeper of Roland-Garros, Longines has clocks keeping the time of day and the duration of each match that are not only visible in the corners of the main stadiums (Court Philippe Chatrier and Court Suzanne Lenglen) but also throughout the premises. The silhouette of the analogue clock on display is recognizable, from the Master collection. Yet the star is the Conquest Classic, the range exclusively comprised of models fitted with mechanical calibres that the Saint-Imier brand has been promoting in the context of the tournament. Actually, the Conquest Classic collection was launched last year precisely at Roland Garros.

Beyond the mere sponsorship and the eulogy of the Conquest Classic, Longines' dedication to tennis also includes an interesting programme promoting young players under 13 years old, the final stage of which is played in Paris during Roland Garros: the Longines Future Tennis Aces. Just like in the previous years, sixteen youngsters were brought from all over the world to have the opportunity not only to play on the French clay but also on a venue spectacularly set in the heart of Paris. Last year, it was right in front of the City Hall; this year, a court was built in the Champ de Mars, with the Eiffel Tower as a backdrop.

The field was selected with the help of the tennis federations of their respective countries (Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong-Kong, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, U.K. and USA) and both the winner, Italy's Federica Rossi, and the runner-up, Russia's Daria Frayman, received an annual bursary of 2,000 USD to pay for their sports equipment until their sixteenth birthday.

Longines' association with tennis is also highlighted by the brand's partnership with two of the greatest tennis champions ever, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, married to each other and both engaged in philanthropic missions supported by Longines - the Andre Agassi Foundation (to assist the youth of Las Vegas and provide them educational opportunities, including a public school for at-risk children) and Children for Tomorrow (helping children and families that have suffered the trauma of war, exile and violence).

  • Longines - Future Tennis Aces 2014

This year, the surroundings of the Champ de Mars will host the Longines Future Tennis Aces 2014. 16 girls aged of less than 13 years and coming from 16 different countries will try to win the coveted reward: a great victory at an international tournament on the mythical Parisian clay. In addition, both finalists will receive an annual bursary for their sports equipment until their sixteenth birthday. These 16 young talents will compete over two days of tournament to qualify for the final on Saturday morning 31 May.

Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 will be dedicated to the Longines Academy, a training camp that will allow the young players to be under the guidance of the best specialists of the discipline and the tournament's godmother, Marion Bartoli, a former French professional tennis player. She will support the girls during the week and will take part in an exhibition match on Saturday morning, where she will compete against both young finalists and a Longines Rising Tennis Star.

    More

Within the frame of Roland-Garros, Longines highlights a model of its Conquest Classic collection, a steel chronograph that houses an exclusive column-wheel movement. Its black dial is set with one arabic numeral and 11 applied indices with Super-LumiNova®. It displays the hours and the minutes, a small second at 9, a 30-minute counter at 3, a 12-hour counter at 6 as well as the date at 4:30. Just as the entire collection Conquest Classic, this timepiece is water-resistant to 5 bar and its screw-down case back is fitted with a sapphire glass.

  • Longines - Longines Heritage 1935

With its Longines Heritage 1935 model, the brand has re-issued a watch designed originally for aviators in the Czech Air Force in 1935. Much praised for their reliability and robustness, these watches were soon on sale to the general public. Old advertising for these models claims that they were the most perfect inventions of modern technology, an ideal accessory not only for pilots but also for anyone who had a well-developed taste for sport. In 1935 these watches were seen as the height of technical perfection, housing a robust movement and fitted with a glass said to be unbreakable.

Like all watches intended for pilots, the dial of the Longines Heritage 1935 is easy to read. The large white Arabic numerals, coated with Super-LumiNova, stand out clearly against the matt black dial. The small seconds and the date aperture are situated at 6 o'clock. The rhodium-plated, sanded skeleton hands coated with Super-LumiNova also ensure that the time can be easily read. The harmony of the dial is completed by a railway-track minute ring.

The cushion-shaped steel case of the Longines Heritage 1935 has a diameter of 42 mm. Its slightly domed profile is enhanced by the bevelling of the middle, which adds to the impression of robustness. The fluted bezel lends the design a particular allure, true to that of the original model. This watch is fitted with an L615 self-winding movement with a 42-hour power reserve. In addition, each piece is numbered.

  • Longines - Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes

On Saturday 19 April, the racecourse of Royal Randwick welcomed more than 26'000 persons for the 2014 edition of the Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes Raceday. For the first time, Longines was the Official Watch & Official timekeeper of the Australian Turf Club for this amazing raceday. 9 races have set the tempo of the day including the $4 Million Group 1 Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m), the richest weight for age race over that distance on turf in the world. The winner, It's A Dundeel, mounted by James McDonald run the 2'000 meters in the time of 01:59:33.

A guest of honour, Longines Ambassador of Elegance, Simon Baker watched the races and elected the most elegant lady out of the 6 finalists of the Longines Award of Elegance competition. Simon Baker presented the winner, Melissa Hann, with a precious timepiece from the Conquest Classic collection.

Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes Raceday was the perfect occasion to discover Conquest Classic, a collection dedicated to the world of horse racing. The event's Official Watch was a steel chronograph from this line. With its 41 mm diameter, this timepiece has a black dial and is equipped with an exclusive column-wheel self-winding movement. As is the case with all models in the Conquest Classic collection, the watch's movement can be admired through its sapphire crystal case back.

  • Longines - The Longines Heritage 1973

The Longines Heritage 1973 displays a vintage look that is true to the original model. The latter, a chronograph produced in 1973 by the brand, was fitted with a Longines mechanical chronograph movement, the 30CH. The Longines Heritage 1973 houses the L688 calibre, a column-wheel chronograph movement developed and produced by ETA exclusively for Longines.

The silvered dial of the Longines Heritage 1973 boasts a fascinating play of contrasts. At 3 and 9 o'clock, two black counters were included. The applied hour symbols are decorated with a fine black line and a dot of Super-LumiNova®. These are interposed and balanced out by a minute-circle, also of fine black lines. A blue tachometric scale surrounds the dial, adding a subtle touch of colour to the whole.

With a diameter of 40 mm, the cushion-shaped steel dial of the Longines Heritage 1973 has retained the lines and mood of the original model. The back is fitted with a transparent sapphire glass cover through which the wearer can admire the movement of the calibre as well as the blue column-wheel. This model is completed by the rounded push-pieces. The whole is mounted on a black alligator strap.

  • Longines - Elegant Tennis

    WORLDTEMPUS - 7 June 2010

Longines sponsors the French Open for the fourth time and adds Gustavo Kuerten's charity to its list of tennis-related philanthropy in addition to young up-and-comers from all over the world.

The sunny Thursday on Roland Garros's court 16 could not have been more exciting for 12-year-old Lauren Fishbein from the USA. Not only did she win her first-round match against Niki Chia of Singapore to advance to the semis of Longines's Future Tennis Aces competition, but she had the spontaneous pleasure of meeting her idol Serena Williams, who happened to be practicing on the next court. The girls' competition was eventually won by Russian Aleksandra Pospelova, who knocked Fishbein out. She and boys' winner Jaime Fermosel Delgado from Spain received not only a stipend of $2,000 per year for tennis equipment until they turn 18 and one of the Swiss manufacturer's watches, but also the chance to play in an exhibition doubles match with legendary tennis players Mary Pierce, Gustavo Kuerten, and Mansour Bahrami. The junior players exhibited extreme composure despite the exciting circumstances in front of approximately 400 spectators on Court 7 and a media conference held in Roland Garros's Tenniseum announcing the winners and Longines's involvement in Kuerten's Instituto Guga Kuerten, a charity that works with disadvantaged Brazilian children.

The same evening Longines held a gala event at Paris's Musee Rodin in honor of Kuerten, who received the Longines Prize for Elegance for this year from brand ambassador and Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Kuerten, who exited the professional circuit prematurely before the age of 30 due to a back injury, is now exerting his considerable energy and resources to lead his charity and "give back" to underprivileged Brazilian children in the hopes of educating them and "giving them good feelings about life."
The sponsorship of Kuerten's charity follows in the footsteps of Longines's commitment to Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf's two charities as announced last year on the occasion of the tenth anniversaries of their respective wins at the French Open. Like Agassi and Graf at the 2009 French Open, Kuerten and Pierce—who is also currently launching her own charity for children—also won their French Open titles exactly one decade ago.

Longines's longtime commitment to tennis and philanthropy continues to expand. At a time when the combination of tennis and watches seems to be making quite a splash among consumers, Longines has positioned itself beautifully in this elegant world of internationally acclaimed athletes. Longines also supports current WTA and ATP touring professionals, including young pros Agnieszka Radwanska and Tsung-Hua Yang. Upon completion of this year's French Open, Longines donated $100,000 each to the Andre Agassi Foundation, Graf's Children for Tomorrow, and the Instituto Guga Kuerten.

  • Longines - Les Elegantes

The tastes of the 1920s are considered to be among the most important stylistic trends created in the 20th century. Their creative freedom and imagination helped to perpetuate a unique style within the Art Deco movement which exerted a marked influence even in watchmkaing during the 1920s. As it does each year, Longines has sought inspiration in this artistic trend for creating elegant ladies' timepieces and is now presenting three new watches in the distinctive 1920s style: Les Elegantes de Longines.
The 1920s saw an artistic revolution with the emergence of the Art Deco movement whose influence spread to many areas of life. But it was also the period of a minor revolution for women: in the 1920s women gradually shrugged off convention and took their fate in their own hands. Corsets were thrown out, waists were liberated, women gained their freedom. Echoing these changes, fashion was also influenced by Art Deco and took on a new beauty made up of chic lifestyles, elegance and vivacity.

The early years of the 20th century also brought with them a major revolution in the world of watchmaking. The advent of the wristwatch and the development of smaller and more reliable movements enabled the watchmakers of the period to exploit their creative talents to the full. Watches, which until then had been relegated to the depths of men's waistcoat pockets, began to be worn on the wrist. But the craftsmen at Longines were soon turning their creative skills to ladies' models, lending the Art Deco style a new expression in elegant and charming timepieces for women. With shaped cases in white gold set with precious stones or playfully decorated - a true in-depth exploration of the exuberant fashion of the time - the jewelled watches created by Longines in the first 30 years of the 20th century soon became immensely popular among the female population.
In 2002 Longines decided to revive the beautiful creations of the 1920s. The models produced at that time were reviewed and reissued. The result was the Les Elegantes de Longines collection, which was an immediate hit among amateur (female) collectors of exceptional pieces. Since then, each spring, new models that are delicate, fine examples of the Art Deco spirit are added to this timeless, elegant collection.

This year Longines has created three new models inspired by the exuberance of the 1920s to make up its 2010 edition of Les Elegantes de Longines. The first is a rectangular watch in yellow gold, set on an elegant strap in black satin. The second, a delicate piece in rose gold, has a tonneau-shaped case that fits snugly on to a bordeaux satin strap. And the third is a graceful white gold model with an almond-shaped case and a white satin strap. The cases of all three models have been hand-engraved in the Art Deco style and set with 24 to 42 Top Wesselton VVS diamonds that add a final sparkle. The Arabic numerals add a delicate charm to the silvered dials and blued hands.
True to its traditions, the famous Swiss watch manufacturer has selected an authentic hand-wound movement dating from the 1970s for this elegant collection - the Longines L805 calibre, set with 17 rubies and beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour. This precious trio has been produced in a limited series of ten pieces only.

Based in St. Imier in Switzerland since 1832, the watchmaker Longines can look back on more than 175 years of non-stop craftsmanship, as well as a solid heritage as timekeeper for world championships in various sports and collaborator with different international sports federations. Known for the elegance of its timepieces, Longines is a member of the Swatch Group Ltd, the World's leading manufacturer of horological products. With the winged hourglass as its emblem, the brand has outlets in over 130 countries.

Once again Longines has created three watches that have been inspired by the boldness of the 1920s and 1930s. The cases of these watches, crafted in 18-carat yellow, rose or white gold, have been hand-engraved throughout with decorative motifs from the Art Deco period. Moreover, they are enhanced by the brilliant sparkle of 24 to 42 Top Wesselton VVS diamonds. The movement they house is a manually wound model dating from the 1970s, namely the L805. This exquisite trio has been produced in a limited series of ten pieces each.

Les Elegantes de Longines have been inspired by the 1920s and 1930s. These elegant models bear the mark of the rich aesthetic refinement of the period, as can be seen in this 18-carat yellow gold rectangular watch mounted on a sleek black satin strap. Enhanced with 34 Top Wesselton VVS diamonds (0.309 carats), the case houses a manually wound movement, the L805, with 17 jewels and beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour. With a silvered dial featuring 12 Arabic numerals and its hand-engraved motifs, this model celebrates the daring creations of the 1920s. Limited edition of 10 pieces.

  • Longines - Aaron Kwok presents "Empire of Silver"

    Press release

Kwok plays the starring role in this film based on a famous story from the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911). The great heritage of the Chinese movie reminds the Swiss watch brand of its horological development and long-standing relationship with China during the same period as the story in time. Chronological records of an invoice states the shipment of the first Longines watch to China dates back to 1867. Longines was happy to congratulate Aaron Kwok on his new exciting movie and to sponsor the after film Party in Berlin by presenting him the brand's latest watchmaking achievement: The Longines Master Collection Retrograde watch, which summarizes the brand's legendary watchmaking development since the Qing Dynasty.
Aaron Kwok, Longines Ambassador of Elegance since 2005, is one of the most popular artist's in Asia. His outstanding performances as a dancer, singer and actor have earned him more than a hundred awards since the beginning of his career. With his many creative talents it was naturally not long before the film industry approached him. Success came immediately as Kwok won the award for best leading actor for his film "Divergence" at the Golden Horse Award in 2005. Only a year later he repeated this achievement by winning for the second time the award for his extraordinary performance in the feature film "After This Our Exile". Now his success story has brought him to his second European Film Festival (after the Rome Film Festival in 2006) here in Berlin, where he will disclose his latest movie "Empire of Silver" as a World Premiere.

In this movie, Aaron Kwok embodies "Third Master", an idealistic and hedonistic young man. Heir to a banking empire, who, despite his father's pressure, struggles to find his own way in life. The Father and son's relationship is complicated by their antagonistic sense of moral and ethical values. Moreover, "Third Master" is deeply in love with his beautiful stepmother.
Embarking on a metaphysical journey, "Third Master" must decide whether to follow his father's path or find his own way. Greed, deception and jealousy surface under the pressures of war and the impending change from silver to paper bills.
This wonderful historical Chinese movie reminds the Swiss watch brand of its rich history of over 175 years of watchmaking craftsmanship and especially of its long-standing relationship with China. In fact, China was one of the first countries where Longines exported its watches to from its manufacture in Switzerland. The record of an invoice shows that the very first Longines watch has already been sold and shipped to China during the Qing Dynasty in 1867.

It was a great pleasure for Longines to offer the after film party and to hand over The Longines Master Collection Retrograde watch in rose gold, the elegant flagship piece to Aaron Kwok during the party as symbol of respect and congratulations on his outstanding performance. This very special timepiece, highlighting the horological traditions of the brand, encloses a new calibre, especially and exclusively developed for Longines. Offering retrograde functions (day, date, second, second time zone on a 24-hour scale) in a movement with automatic rewinding, The Longines Master Collection Retrograde combines a mechanical horological complication with simple usage.
