    Longines supported the first edition of the Longines CSI St. Moritz as Title Partner and Official Timekeeper and presented at this occasion its new watch collection Conquest Classic Moonphase.

    The new Longines CSI St. Moritz belongs to the most altitudinous show jumping events of Switzerland and Europe. The Longines Grand Prix of St. Moritz was won by Laura Kraut from the USA and her gelding Deauville S. She was followed Niklaus Rutschi (Switzerland) with Windsor and Kamal Abdullah Bahamdan (Saudi Arabia) with Noblesse des Tess. Laura Kraut received an elegant Longines watch from the brand's President Walter von Känel.

    The Official Watch of the Longines CSI St. Moritz was a model of the Conquest Classic Moonphase line.     On Saturday 4 April 2015, Scott Brash on Hello Sanctos won the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Miami Beach and was presented with an elegant Longines watch by Mr. Charles Villoz, Vice President of Longines.

    This event offered a great opportunity to discover Conquest Classic, a line of Longines timepieces dedicated to the equestrian world. The official watch of the Longines Global Champions Tour of Miami Beach was a lady model in steel from this collection.   • Longines - FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup 2014/2015

    Last Friday saw the launch of the 2014/2015 Alpine skiing season, which for Longines will be characterised by youth. The brand offers its support to the best up-and-coming Alpine skiers through the Longines Future Ski Champions race, which will take place
    in Val d'Isere in December. This year the focus will be on the female skiers for this unique competition. Each will be hoping to be crowned champion for 2014 and to take home a Longines watch as well as a trophy.

    With the same purpose in mind, Longines will also be organising, for the third year running, the Longines Rising Ski Stars prize, awarded to the best female skier under the age of 21 and the best male skier under the age of 23 who compete for the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup. At the end of the 2014/2015 season, the two winners will each receive a Longines watch, a trophy and a cheque for CHF 20,000.

    The launch of the new Alpine skiing season was also an opportunity for Longines to unveil the name of its new Ambassador of Elegance, American alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin, two-time winner of the « Longines Rising Ski Stars » prize. The talented athlete was also World Champion in 2013 and won two crystal globes in slalom.

    Finally, the Swiss watch brand announced the renewal of its long-term partnership with the FIS, for which it has been the Partner and Official Timekeeper since 2006.

    The Official Watch of the season will be a one hundredth of a second chronograph, the Conquest 1/100th Alpine Skiing.

  • Longines - Longines Ladies Awards 2014

    On 14 June in the Grand Stables of the Princes of Conde, on the Chantilly domain, a jury including Longines Ambassador of Elegance Kate Winslet paid tribute to women who have dedicated their careers to the equine cause.

    Sylvie Robert picked up the award for her contribution to the development of equestrian sport in Europe after the success of this year's Longines FEI World Cup Jumping in Lyon, for which she was in charge of the organisation.

    Criquette Head-Maarek was awarded her prize in recognition for her contribution to the development of training and looking after a racehorse. Last year, her filly Treve was named World's Best Racehorse and ranked first in the Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings at the end of the season.

    Jing Li was recognised for her contrbution to the development of equestrian sports in Asia, and China in particular. She organised the first showjumping competitions with international riders in China, the Longines Equestrial Beijing Masters held at the Beijing Olympic stadium.

    Bo Derek was honoured for her efforts in regards to equine welfare and safety in the United States, having worked closely with the Animal Welfare Institute and as an ambassador for the Breeder's Cup World Championships.

    The Longines Ladies Awards are just one example of the brand's b involvement in the equestrian world, which dates back to 1878, when the company produced a chronograph engraved with a horse and jockey.

    This year, the tournament, organized by Longines since 2010, was held at an exceptional venue, on the Champ de Mars, with the Eiffel Tower as a backdrop.

    After a week filled with emotional and thrilling moments for the 16 talented players under 13 years old coming from all over the world, the 2014 Longines Future Tennis Aces tournament went to a prefect close on Saturday, May 31st, with the victory of Federica Rossi (Italy) who defeated Daria Frayman (Russia).

    The Longines Future Tennis Aces, organized by the Swiss watch brand for the fifth consecutive year, is supported by the FFT (French Federation of Tennis) and is in compliance with the French Open of Roland-Garros, of which Longines is Official Partner and Official Timekeeper. This year, the tournament was held for the first time on the Champ de Mars, in front of the Eiffel Tower.

    Federica Rossi was presented with a trophy from the hands of Jean Gachassin, President of the FFT (French Federation of Tennis) - just like the winner of Roland-Garros next weekend - as well as a Longines watch. Both finalists received an annual bursary of 2000$ until their 16th birthday for their tennis equipment, and to top off their great achievement, participated in an exhibition match with the patron of the tournament Marion Bartoli and Nathalie Dechy, both former French professional tennis players.

  • Longines - The Longines Heritage 1968

    Located at the heart of the Longines head office in St-Imier, the Museum was completely refurbished in 2012 to mark the brand's 180th anniversary. It houses many treasures including a magnificent square timepiece that was the inspiration for the Longines Heritage 1968. The Longines Heritage 1968 is available in two sizes: 26 x 26 mm and 33 x 33 mm. The grey brushed dial features black, finely painted Roman numerals and a chapter-ring around the outside. A fine line of black varnish on the minute and hour hands echoes the lines of the numerals, providing a delicate contrast.
    While the square case is at first glance more classical, the Longines Heritage 1968 reveals an interesting profile with its slightly bevelled glass that protrudes over the middle. Moreover, the trapezium-shaped date aperture lends the watch a fresh, avant-garde air that contrasts with the more stringent lines of the case.  The watch is fitted with a mechanical movement, L595 and the whole is mounted on an elegant black alligator strap. Also available in steel.

  • Longines - Global Champions Tour in Monaco

    Title Partner and Official Timekeeper of the Longines Global Champions Tour, Longines partnered the Monaco leg of the competition and presented two of its major events: the Longines Pro-Am Cup on Friday, won by Mark McAuley riding Loriot and by Maddalena Valenzano Menada on Quidana, and the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of the Prince of Monaco on Saturday, the latter won by Richard Spooner on Cristallo followed by the riders William Funnell and Edwina Tops-Alexander.
     

    The winners were each presented with a Longines wristwatch as they improved their rankings in the Longines Global Champions Tour Ranking.
    This year, the official watch of the Monaco show jumping competition is a model from the new Conquest Classic line, dedicated to Longines's support of equestrian sport disciplines. This new collection of models is fitted with self-winding calibres.

    During a press event at the Pavillon Gabriel in Paris, Longines and France Galop presented the 2013 edition of the Prix de Diane Longines, which promises to be outstanding. The programme includes races, a picnic on the grass, music and above all elegance, the brand's core value. It will be held on June 16th at Chantilly racecourse.

The first is for promoting the equestrian world through arts and media; the second is related to equestrian breeding and care and third prize will reward the development of sport within the equestrian world.

    The official color of the Longines Kentucky Oaks is pink in celebration of all the ladies. The Pink Out encourages all Oaks attendees to wear pink or incorporate pink into their attire to show their support for cancer survivors. Churchill Downs will be decked out in pink as well, including pink-colored bunting, flower beds, flags and jockeys' and pony riders' apparel. Churchill Downs bugler Steve Buttleman will sport a pink uniform as he calls horses to the post throughout Longines Kentucky Oaks Day.
    Longines Kentucky Oaks Fashion Contest
    Ladies of all ages in attendance on Longines Kentucky Oaks Day can enter the Longines Kentucky Oaks Fashion Contest for the chance to win a stainless steel and rose gold Longines Saint-Imier Collection watch featuring a stunning diamond bezel. Entrants showcasing their finest Longines Kentucky Oaks attire will be judged on the "Pink Carpet" inside Gate 10. Participants are judged by how well they incorporate pink into their ensemble.     The 2013 Survivors Parade presented by Kroger provides some of the most memorable and touching moments as cancer survivors invited by Churchill Downs parade along the main track just moments before the running of the Longines Kentucky Oaks. This year, Churchill Downs has invited back participants from the 2012 Survivor Parade which was interrupted by storms last year.  
    $1 Million Longines Kentucky Oaks
    Kentucky Oaks Day - an unofficial Louisville holiday with many schools and businesses closed - is the third largest attended horse race in America only behind the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. In 2012, 112,552 attended the festivities, which marked the 12th time in the last 13 years that attendance topped the 100,000 mark. With a $1 million guaranteed purse, The Longines Kentucky Oaks is the most lucrative American horse race for 3-year-old fillies. Twenty-six Oaks winners have gone on to be crowned with an Eclipse Award as North America's champion 3-year-old filly and nine are enshrined in racing's Hall of Fame.
    The lofty purse reflects the Oaks' status and importance as a sports and entertainment event. Wagering on the 12-race card in 2012 was a record $39.9 million, which included an unprecedented $11.8 million on the Oaks alone. The maximum number of starters in the race is 14, and at least 13 fillies have been in the starting gate for five of the last seven years. The winner receives a silver trophy, a garland of pink star-gazer lilies and an estimated $564,200 payday.

  • Longines - History on the Racetrack

    Last year after Longines' elegant event (can we link to my story from 9.5.11 here?), I reported how I kept betting on jockey Andrasch Starke in the wrong races. Learning from my mistakes, I bet on him when it counted. As did the stall that brought Danedream to Iffezheim, Germany's premier horse racing event.
    Over the weekend, I kept thinking of how Danedream's story reminded me a lot of Seabiscuit, the horse who made it to Hollywood. A German thoroughbred racehorse who no one wanted at the beginning (her eventual owners only paid € 9,000 for her), four-year-old Danedream is the most successful racehorse to ever come from Germany. Her races were chiefly won in 2011 and 2012. This past weekend she raced for the last time in Iffezheim: apparently racehorses retire at the zenith of their careers.
     


    This is all great news for Longines, as the interest surrounding Danedream led the main Iffezheim race called the Grosser Preis von Baden - in which Longines offered a total of 250,000 euros and the prize of honor, including a watch, to the winners - to be nationally and internationally televised, preempting even soccer on German television.
     


    Grand Prix for a Hat
    The Iffezheim week is a highpoint of the social calendar in the Germany's Baden in addition to being the most important event on Germany's horseracing calendar. In addition to participating in the grand prix ball celebrating the sporting occasion, Longines, the event's timing partner, also awarded the Longines Prize for Elegance to the most elegant female visitor to the races.     Longines FEI World Endurance Championships at Euston Park

    Euston Park, Suffolk (UK) / Saint-Imier (Switzerland), August 26th 2012 - Held across 160km of land in the beautiful grounds of the Euston Estate, the seat of the Duke and Duchess of Grafton, and several local landowners, the championships were truly a test of skill and stamina for both horses and riders.


    The event saw a star studded field of riders and horses tackle the course in a single day across terrain such as forest tracks, river meadows and open farmland. The individual winner of the Longines FEI Endurance Championships 2012 was His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on his horse Madji du Pont who completed the event in 7hr00min45sec with the UAE team winning gold followed by France and Oman respectively. Longines presented watches from the new Longines Saint-Imier collection to HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as well as the four UAE team riders. Longines also presented a prize to the horse in the best condition after the race, won by Spanish competitor Ikland.     The versions that show the hours, minutes and seconds with a date aperture at 3 o'clock are available in steel, in steel and rose gold or in rose gold. With a choice of four case sizes (26 mm, 30 mm, 38.50 mm and 41 mm), including some set with diamonds all our customers will find a version that fits snugly on their wrist. The choice of dials includes black, silvered or white mother-of-pearl with diamonds index and, thanks to the Super-LumiNova coating on the hands, reading the time is never a problem.     The chronographs are fitted with an L688.2 column-wheel movement specially developed and produced by ETA exclusively for Longines.     Rome (Italy) - St-Imier (Switzerland) October 23rd 2011 - Longines, Official Timekeeper of the racecourse Capannelle in Rome is proud to announce the victory of Fabio Branca on Quiza Quiza Quiza at the Grand Prix Longines Lydia Tesio. The Swiss watch brand and Capannelle have revealed their partnership on October 20th during an event at the Palazzo Wedekind in the center of Rome. That same evening, Longines also awarded the prize "Premio Longines Lydia Tesio - Le Signore dell'Ippica" to six women active in the equestrian world. The elegant model The Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph was the official watch of the event.

    In the warmth of the roman autumn, the racecourse of Capannelle welcomed the Grand Prix Longines Lydia Tesio this Sunday. The Italian rider Fabio Branca on the Italian horse Quiza Quiza Quiza has won this Group I race of 2'000 meters opened to 3 years old fillies. The jockey, the owner and the trainer of Quiza Quiza Quiza were presented with Longines watches. The whole day was marked by the elegance and the refinement among the public, true to Longines' slogan "Elegance is an attitude".
    This race is dedicated to the memory of Donna Lydia, the first lady of the Italian horse racing and wife of the great thoroughbred breeder Federico Tesio. It was therefore logical that Longines awarded early that week the prize "Premio Longines Lydia Tesio - Le Signore dell'Ippica" to six great women, who have distinguished themselves in the equestrian world.     Though Andrasch Starke raced on a total of nine different horses in nine of the ten races that took place yesterday as the exciting close to a wonderful week in Iffezheim / Baden-Baden, I kept betting on him in the wrong races. Starke, you see, won the race that counted, though not the race that I thought he would win after listening to experts in horse racing expound upon the recent past of the jockeys, horses, and trainers taking part in yesterday's Grosser Preis von Baden. This sixth and final day of racing on the Iffezheim track closed with a bang.


    It was indeed Andrasch took the podium, triumphant on Danedream, in the race in which Longines offered a total of 250,000 euros and the prize of honor to the winners.
    The Iffezheim week is a highpoint of the social calendar in the German state of Baden in addition to being the most important event on Germany's horse racing calendar. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that there is a grand prix ball to celebrate the sporting occasion. Longines, the event's timing partner, also took guests to the Saturday evening gala event emceed by German actor Sky du Mont ("Der Schuh des Manitou") and during which Gloria Gaynor ("I Will Survive") sang her hits.


    If Longines had only been able to predict exactly which race Starke was going to win, I would have been able to partake more fully in the whole "grand prix" experience, though. Shouldn't there be a watch for that? Unfortunately, the Dolce Vita - the official watch of the Grosser Preis von Baden-Baden - wasn't quite outfitted with this function.
