  • Jaeger-LeCoultre - Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph to be auctioned

Pre-registration is open now for online bidding to be held March 12-15, 2012

Within the framework of its partnership with the International Herald Tribune and the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Jaeger-LeCoultre announces its 4th annual online auction of a unique watch. The proceeds from the sale will be entirely donated to the protection of an exceptional marine site in the Philippines that is part of the  UNESCO World Heritage Marine Programme.

This year the proceeds of the Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph sale will be donated to the Puerto-Princesa Subterranean River National Park in the Philippines that features a spectacular landscape with its underground river that emerges directly into the sea. The area represents a significant habitat for biodiversity conservation. The site contains a full "mountain-to-the-sea" ecosystem and protects some of the most significant forests in Asia. The  proceeds from the auction will contribute to acquiring the equipment and materials that will assist the site with a regular monitoring programme toward evaluating the state of conservation of its exceptional marine value.

The prototype N°1 of the Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph is a fully functional original timepiece hand-crafted by watchmakers of the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre, located in the Vallee de Joux, Switzerland, attaches a great importance to preserving the exceptional natural environment of its production site and to contributing to environmental projects internationally. Jaeger-LeCoultre is in its 4th year of  partnership with the UNESCO World Heritage Centre to help protect and safeguard outstanding marine sites that require specific immediate intervention. To increase public awareness of this environmental cause, Jaeger-LeCoultre joined forces with the International Herald Tribune to create the "Tides of Time" newspaper section that highlights exceptional marine sites throughout the year.

Online watch auctions conducted since 2009 have already enabled Jaeger-LeCoultre to contribute to the protection of Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park in the Philippines, India's Sundarbans National Park, and Malpelo Fauna and Flora Sanctuary in Colombia.

    Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph

From 1950s Jaeger-LeCoultre provided the first explorers of the marine depths - whether driven by scientific goals or by a thirst for discovery - with a timepiece that exceeded their demands. Through the different versions introduced until the early 1970s, the Memovox Deep Sea became one of the rare watchmaking creations to leave an indelible imprint on its era. In 2012 the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre offers the Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph, a remarkable reinterpretation of a legendary watch.

The latest creation from the Grande Maison in the Vallee de Joux is bound to thrill devotees of legendary models wishing to pay tribute to a longstanding tradition of innovation in the most diverse disciplines, yet without foregoing the comfort and reliability ensured by the latest generation of Jaeger-LeCoultre calibers.

The stainless steel case of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph is inspired by the design codes of an iconic creation, the back bears the same engraved motif as the historical model, depicting a frogman surrounded by bubbles. This watch driven by Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 751G incorporates the latest developments stemming from Jaeger-LeCoultre's ongoing research. The embossed black calfskin leather strap looks exactly like the one fitted on the original.

  • Jaeger-LeCoultre - New Boutique in Mexico

In keeping with its spirit of invention and creativity- which has set Jaeger-LeCoultre apart in the field of Haute Horlogerie since its creation in 1833 - the brand created a special 3D animated movie projected on the façade of the Boutique.
The striking show transported the guests to the snowy confines of the Vallee de Joux, home of the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre since its inception. The journey began at the origins of the Manufacture with its founder Antoine LeCoultre, before travelling through the iconic creations of the brand such as the emblematic Reverso and some of its high complication timepieces - Duometre, Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication and the breathtaking Gyrotourbillon.

The inventiveness of Jaeger-LeCoultre was also shown through more sporty and high-tech creations such as the Extreme Lab2 and the Amvox DBS, a fascinating watch designed in partnership with Aston Martin.
This journey into time and history ended on a note of glamour, as internationally acclaimed artists such as Diane Kruger and Clive Owen, who have long been sported Jaeger-LeCoultre creations on their wrists, popped up on the facade of the Boutique.
Like stepping stones, all those elements have helped built one of the most respected names in Haute Horlogerie, with more than 175 years of tradition and invention. The story now continues in Mexico… Guests were greeted by Mr. Jerôme Lambert, CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre, who came especially from Le Sentier, Switzerland, for the occasion. "This Boutique in Mexico was not born by chance: this is because we have met more and more Mexicans loving Jaeger-LeCoultre over the years, this is because we have been successful in Mexico that it appeared natural for us to open a store here in Mexico City. And as Jaeger-LeCoultre is always a step ahead, you are not surprised to see that we are the first fine watchmaking Maison to settle in Mexico." declared Mr. Lambert.

Mr. Lambert was joined for the ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Mexican actress Jaydy Michel - wearing the stunning Reverso snow-setting Full Pave - her husband and international soccer star Rafa Marquez, with his Master Compressor Chronograph; and Mr. Franck Juhel, Managing Director of Jaeger-LeCoultre Latin America and Caribbean.

Guests were then invited to visit the Boutique and discover the exceptional know-how of the Manufacture, illustrated by its exceptional collection of timepieces, including some unique creations. Among the masterpieces showcased were: the Gyrotourbillon I, single-handedly summing up the challenging spirit of the Manufacture; the Hybris Mechanica a Grande Sonnerie, graced with a sound of peerless intensity and purity, the Riviere 101, the Master Tourbillon Shiny Night and the Master Twinkling Diamonds, exquisite Haute Joaillerie creations.
An expert watchmaker was present in the Boutique to show the intricate details of such masterpieces. It was a great opportunity for guests to take a closer look at the uncompromising quality and craftsmanship of Jaeger-LeCoultre.

GRANDE REVERSO 976 - Guillermo Ceniceros Special Edition

In celebration of the 80th anniversary of this iconic watch, Jaeger-LeCoultre decided to invite renowned artists to create exceptional personalized editions of the Reverso. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso is recognized by watchmaking connoisseurs as an Art Deco icon that stands out from other watchmaking creations with a case that slides at the base and rotates completely on itself. It was perhaps this uniqueness and originality that drove Jaeger-LeCoultre to create a unique Special Edition linked to conceptual art that pays homage to the renowned Mexican painter, muralist, and engraver Guillermo Ceniceros.
This magnificent association takes shape in the impressive Grande Reverso 976 Guillermo Ceniceros Special Edition. The work of art engraved on the case-back of this special edition expresses two different elements: man's duality from a modernistic perspective in the stainless steel edition, and man in motion in the rose gold edition.

Guillermo Ceniceros was born in 1939 in El Salto, a town in the Mexican state of Durango. He got a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Nuevo Leon and was part of a team assembled by the famous Mexican muralist David Alfaro Siqueiros to create seven of his celebrated murals. In 1969, he received a special award from Mexico's Ministry of Education and was later nominated for the World Art Contest. His works have received international accolades and are featured in public and private collections all around the world. Ceniceros is a figurative artist whose work focuses on the study of form, space, and the subject's overall harmony, with particular emphasis on female subjects. He creates his own materials and working implements.
Like the Reverso's design, the work of Ceniceros has evolved while remaining faithful to itself, flowing through a wide range of theme variations. Itself a precious vessel, the Reverso holds a veritable treasure of passion and watchmaking prowess, essential values it shares with the work of this outstanding Mexican artist, perpetuated in murals such as "Auguries and Premonitions," a 90-square-foot masterpiece that decorates the building of the Mexican Foreign Trade Bank, or the recently unveiled "Constituent Congress," in Mexico's legislative building.
Beneath its classic, timeless appearance, the Grande Reverso 976 conceals a 21st century watch mechanism. Its large variable-inertia balance oscillating at 28,800 vibrations per hour guarantees the exemplary precision of Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 976. The movement allows using the crown to adjust the hour hand backwards or forwards in one-hour increments, without disturbing the accuracy of the minutes and seconds. The Grande Reverso boasts a 30 x 48.5 mm case and its most notable feature is its splendidly simple black dial, embellished with traditional Art Deco numerals and dual finishing. The center rectangle is guilloched and has a Clous de Paris engraving, and the outside features a satin finish. This delicate ornamental interplay is repeated in the small seconds hand located at the 6 o'clock position.
    Two Limited Series
The first model of the GRANDE REVERSO 976 Guillermo Ceniceros Special Edition will feature a stainless steel case with lacquered engraving on the back and will be limited to 50 pieces. The second edition will be produced in rose gold, featuring a fully engraved case-back, and will be limited to 10 pieces.

  • Jaeger-LeCoultre - New Reverso Repetition Minutes a Rideau

New Reverso Repetition Minutes a Rideau: technology dedicated to emotions While technology may convince and appeal, only emotions can make a watch truly unforgettable. The kind of emotions that arise when such a miniaturised and sophisticated mechanism is dedicated to flattering the senses and generating authentic pleasure. In 2006, with the Reverso grande complication a triptyque, Jaeger-LeCoultre succeeded for the very first time in equipping a watch with three dials by using the two faces of the case as well as the carrier base! 18 functions had thus been united within a single watch, a performance saluted by the filing of six different patents. This year, the Manufacture is achieving a similar feat but in an entirely different way, by creating several faces thanks to a pivoting curtain that alternately conceals one or other of the dials. The result is four sides and four faces composing an aesthetic and technical accomplishment to which Jaeger-LeCoultre has added an additional tour de force: the operation of one of the noblest horological complications, the minute repeater mechanism, which marks the passing of time by striking the hours, quarters and minutes on demand with an incomparably pure, full-bodied sound. The acoustic quality of a striking watch essentially depends on the gongs which are essential elements in producing the sound. In order to ensure its watches emit a pure and melodious tone, Jaeger-LeCoultre has developed gongs made from a special alloy and machined all of a piece. Their section is square rather than round as is normally the case, in order to provide a larger contact surface for the hammer, which can thus strike with increased force.

Simply using a fingertip to slide the curtain masking one of the sides of the case reveals its hidden beauty while also activating the minute repeater mechanism! Sliding the white gold window enables the observer to follow the action of the two tiny hammers viewed through the sapphire crystal. To achieve this, the watchmakers have invented a distinctive mechanism they have called "trebuchet hammers" that further enhance the acoustic properties of the striking mechanism. Rather than using a traditional hammer, they have devised a dual-axis construction with a special articulated mobile arm. Activating the mechanism accelerates the movement of the hammers until they touch a tiny fingerpiece which in turn releases a second mobile arm in order to further increase the speed of the hammers at the time of impact. This method uses around 80 per cent of the force deployed by the spring, whereas the traditional system transmits only 10 to 30 per cent of the energy initially exercised.

The manually-wound Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 944 which has just been created marries the traditional art of watchmaking with contemporary technology in a peerlessly refined and elegant manner: all the parts are adorned with Clous de Paris and Côtes de Geneve motifs, circular-grained, snailed, or feature a satin-brushed finish, thereby underscoring the classic beauty of the construction. The steel parts are polished and chamfered, the adjustment screws are blued and the fastening screws are rhodium-plated.

The bridges and mainplate are made in nickel silver, which sets the finishing touch to a classic decoration combined with modern materials.

In order to demonstrate the reliability of its construction, the Reverso Repetition Minutes a Rideau is once again submitted after assembly and casing up to the famous Jaeger-LeCoultre 1000 Hours chronometry test. The Reverso Repetition Minutes a Rideau, issued in a 75-piece limited series in white gold, pays tribute to the exclusive nature of a movement that is so complex and features such an infinitely subtle array of interactions between the movement and the exterior that it absolutely must be assembled and adjusted by a single master-watchmaker.By illustrating Jaeger-LeCoultre's know-how in the field of Fine Watchmaking and by uniting it within a single timepiece, this Grande Complication certainly deserves to find its place within the Hybris Mechanica collection. It embodies the quintessence of classical horology combined with cutting-edge technical solutions.Developed by the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre which has built up a heritage composed of more than 200 different calibres equipped with striking mechanisms - three-hammer chimes, silent regulator, "Cathedral" gongs of automatons with jacks - the unprecedented Reverso Repetition Minutes a Rideau invents a new gesture, a new vision, and a whole new set of emotions…
