  • IWC - Ingenieur Automatic Edition "AMG GT"

The Ingenieur Automatic Edition "AMG GT" (Ref. IW324602) - that also commemorates IWC's ten-year partnership with Mercedes-AMG - is the first watch worldwide to feature a case made of boron carbide, currently the hardest ceramic of them all, and will be limited to just 25 pieces.
The timepiece is equipped with the in-house 80110-calibre, which has an integrated shock-absorption system. As a tribute to its namesake, the colour black has been combined with stylish yellow elements that reference AMG's exclusive colour, "solarbeam". The screws in the bezel and crown are made of black zirconium oxide.

The watch is secured to the wrist with a rugged, skin-friendly rubber strap. With the black Dinamica® inlay, which is set off with yellow quilted stitching, the watch features the same innovative microfibre used by Mercedes-AMG to pad the steering wheel, seat upholstery and headliner in the new Mercedes-AMG GT.

The name chosen for the new watch is a tribute to the new Mercedes-AMG sports car, the second vehicle built entirely in-house by the performance brand of Mercedes-Benz. Since January 2013, IWC has built on its involvement in motor racing as Official Engineering Partner of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One™ Team and has two fine brand ambassadors in Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

The Goodwood Members' Meeting is the first in a series of historic races that can count on IWC Schaffhausen's support in the years ahead. In 2014, the Goodwood Road Racing Club (GRRC) re-established its club racing tradition with the Members' Meeting. These races, held at the circuit that opened in 1948, are open exclusively to members and were a resounding success between 1949 and 1966. The hallmark of the Goodwood Members' Meeting has always been a world-class field of historic racing cars and well-known drivers.

IWC Schaffhausen brought three spectacular AMG vehicles to Goodwood: the latest Mercedes- AMG GT, one Mercedes F1 W04, and the 300 SEL 6.8 AMG - AMG's first vehicle, which created a sensation in 1971 when it clinched second place in the 24-hour touring car race at Spa.
In an unconventional "race against time" at Goodwood Members' Meeting this year, German ex-racing driver Jochen Mass took the 300 SEL 6.8 AMG through its paces on the circuit while his Austrian colleague Karl Wendlinger got behind the wheel of the Mercedes-AMG GT and set out in pursuit. Anthony Davidson, winner of last year's FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and former Formula One driver, was in no hurry with his Formula One racing car at the start, but soon moved into top gear and put in a fantastic performance to cross the finishing line at the same time as the other two vehicles.
Apart from this spectacle, visitors witnessed a series of keenly contested races and high-speed demonstrations featuring cars from the pre-war era to 1990s Group C prototypes. At the end of the race weekend, IWC Schaffhausen honoured the driver who had recorded the fastest lap time with a special timepiece from the Ingenieur line: the Ingenieur Chronograph Silberpfeil (Ref. IW378505).

  • IWC Schaffhausen - Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month

In 2014, the perpetual calendar with its quick-action switch and large digital display showing the date and month took its place in IWC Schaffhausen's diver's watch family.
The distinctly technical design of the dial is characterized by the extra-large numerals of the perpetual calendar, which is mechanically programmed until 2100. The date and month discs have perforated covers. The designers took their inspiration for this particular element from the filter systems that are omnipresent on submarine vehicles. The four-year leap year cycle is also shown digitally. At IWC, the digital display with large numerals has a tradition dating back over 100 years. A subdial at "12 o'clock" displays stop times between one minute and 12 hours as simply as the time of day, using minute and hour hands, while the central hand counts the number of seconds.

The integrated flyback function enables the user to reset the running stopwatch hands to zero and to start another timing sequence immediately. The display also helps divers monitor the speed of their ascents.

The Super-LumiNova®* coating on the hands and indices glows particularly brightly in the dark in two different colours: green for displays relevant to dive time, blue for the hour display.

With its 49mm case - water-resistant to 10 bar - the it is the second-largest wristwatch in IWC's history. The external rotating bezel is made of 18-carat red gold, as is the protective cover on the left side of the case for the advanced sliding clutch system, which transmits the rotation of the external bezel to the internal rotating bezel. The IWC SafeDive system ensures that the bezel can only be turned anticlockwise. The casing ring, push-buttons and crown are made of rubber-coated titanium.

The see-through sapphire-glass back provides a view of the IWC-manufactured 89801 movement, which comprises 474 individual parts.

The black rubber strap with its black alligator leather inlay guarantees maximum comfort in wear and a long service life.

  • IWC - Inauguration of the Roman boutique

Piazza di Spagna has always fascinated and inspired artists. Thus, this historic setting was the obvious choice for IWC's first boutique in Italy. Rome with its "grande bellezza" reflects perfectly the sublime aesthetics of IWC watches, their timeless elegance and innovative design.
"It is an honour for us to present our feats of precision engineering, our philosophy and our tradition here in Rome, at the Piazza di Spagna. Not only is this place known throughout the world for its superlative art and culture; but many internationally renowned directors have also chosen it as the backdrop for some of the most famous moments in cinematic history," affirms IWC CEO Georges Kern. "Once again, all these elements are testimony to our passion for cinema. This year, we have added official partnerships with the Tribeca Film Festival in New York and the Beijing International Film Festival to the IWC Filmmaker Award during the Cannes International Film Festival and the Dubai International Film Festival."

150 guests, from the worlds of cinema, art and culture, were entertained inside a cinema set in front of the boutique windows, in an atmosphere redolent of the classic film "Roman Holiday." Event hosts Vittoria Puccini and Pierfrancesco Favino paraded on the red carpet and cut the ribbon with Georges Kern. Personalities in attendance included the entertainer Rosario Fiorello, actor Ricky Tognazzi and film directors Edoardo Ponti, Jacopo Gassman as well as chef Filippo La Mantia.
Guest then enjoyed a delightful dinner, courtesy of chef Francesco Apreda and his "cucina dal vivo", on the terrace of the Hotel Hassler. Later, Aloe Blacc and his band gave an exclusive concert under a starlit summer sky.

To mark the inauguration of its boutique on Piazza di Spagna, IWC released a special version of its Portofino Chronograph (Ref. 3910). The limited edition consists of 28 timepieces sold exclusively at Piazza di Spagna 28. The watch is embellished with a special Santoni strap instead of the classic alligator leather. The case back boasts a distinctive feature that makes it unique among the Portofino Chronograph collection: an engraving of the famous Spanish Steps as well as the limitation "ONE OUT OF 28" and the prestigious address of the Boutique.

  • IWC - New Prominent Friends of the Brand

The partnership between IWC and Mercedes-Benz' performance brand AMG started in 2004, as a venture between two companies with a long and successful history in precision engineering and a shared commitment to pushing back the boundaries of mechanics and high technology. IWC's appointment as Official Engineering Partner to the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team earlier this year was confirmation of the close ties between the two companies. Now, in a move that will further cement the partnership between the luxury watch manufacturer and the racing team, the two drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg have become Friends of the Brand. They are first racing drivers in a select group of world-famous celebrities.
    The Quest for Perfection
Commenting on the appointment of the brand's two newest ambassadors Georges Kern, CEO of IWC, said with pride: "Lewis and Nico are two amazing personalities who work every day at getting that little bit more performance out of themselves and their cars. In their own inimitable way, the two of them represent all that is best about IWC Schaffhausen. I am deeply moved that I am now able to call them Friends of the Brand."
Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are relentless in their quest for perfection - a quality they share with IWC's designers, technicians and master watchmakers. Lewis Hamilton is a declared aficionado of fine watchmaking and clearly recognizes the similarities between his profession and the watches made by IWC Schaffhausen: "I love wristwatches, and it seems to me that those made by IWC have a lot in common with Formula One™ drivers: they're unique, high-performance watches and are among the best in their field. Needless to say, I'm really looking forward to our partnership with the company."

Nico Rosberg's ties with the watch manufacturer from Schaffhausen started when his father gave him an IWC years ago. "From that moment on I was hooked, especially on watches by IWC: the designs are simply unique. But it isn't just the outside: the cases are packed with state-of-the-art technology and high performance. Becoming a Friend of the Brand is like being reunited with an old acquaintance. My first watch was an IWC, a gift from my father."
    Championship Performance
As drivers in the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are in the spotlight 20 times a year. Behind the scenes is the painstaking work carried out by the team's engineers and technicians, who work to ensure that everything on race day runs with the precision and predictability of a watch movement.
As Georges Kern points out: "There's a sense of pride in the craftsmanship, the innovation and the pioneering spirit that goes into everything we turn our hands to. And the proof of our success is in the reception our products receive on a global platform. Like MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, the force that drives us constantly is the will to be world champions at what we do."

  • IWC - Film premiere starring Jean Reno

The Swiss watchmaking company IWC Schaffhausen celebrated its new Portuguese watch collection on the occasion of the SIHH in Geneva amidst a setting inspired by typical yacht design features. Prominent guests joined invited business partners for the "IWC Dinner" at the Espace Secheron, where they were enthused by the premiere of the IWC short film starring Hollywood actor Jean Reno.

More than 600 invited guests, including prominent personalities such as Zinedine Zidane, Boris Becker and Luís Figo, gathered for the cocktail reception hosted by IWC at the Espace Secheron in a nautical ambiance. Also mingling with the guests, alongside best-selling author Paulo Coelho and Hollywood star Jean Reno, were Arsene Wenger, Alain Sutter and Tim Jefferies, who were visibly at their ease in the relaxed atmosphere. Various installations, attended by specialists, echoed the central theme of the evening: the fascination of matters both nautical and navigational. Here a meteorologist gave an introduction to the secrets and perils of forecasting the weather, followed by an expert who explained the significance and function of the sextant. One authority contrasted and compared modern and antique cartography and explored the intricacies of longitude and latitude, which to this day retain their relevance as coordinate systems for accurate positioning.

    Film premiere with Jean Reno

The high point of the evening was the film premiere with Jean Reno: IWC, together with French actor and director Didier Flamand and Swiss production company Condor Films, has produced a short film for the relaunch of its Portuguese watches, which makes the origins and the fascination of navigation the centre of attention. "The Spirit of Navigation" is a mystical work full of poetry, a philosophical commemoration of the scientists, seafarers and astronomers of days long gone by. Hollywood actor Jean Reno moves through time and space as a protagonist in the midst of a magical production, acquaints the viewer with the art of navigation, which originated some 6,000 years ago, and recounts the development of early nautical instruments.
