  • TAG Heuer - "A passion for racing keeps me young"

Jean-Claude Biver, CEO of TAG Heuer and President of the Watch Division of the LVMH Group, spelled it out at the press conference: TAG Heuer recruits its ambassadors from four sectors: motor racing, the arts, lifestyle and heritage.
On August 24th, the Manufacture TAG Heuer in La Chaux-de-Fonds brought together two completely different representatives of the brand, but who share the same passion for motor racing: Jack Heuer, the brand's "legend and living memory" and Patrick Dempsey, TAG Heuer ambassador since last year with his Patrick Dempsey MotorRacing Team, and who embodies both motor racing and lifestyle equally well.

    Ayrton Senna's helmet
On a tour of European racing tracks, the actor and driver stopped off at La Chaux-de-Fonds to visit the Manufacture, which houses within its premises the company museum of which he was given a personal tour by Jack Heuer. Taking time to look at a great many archive photographs of racing, the two men shared a long list of memories. The highlight of the visit was a stop at the display window containing Ayrton Senna's helmet. "I think Senna changed the face of motor racing. When he qualified for Monaco, he spoke of transcendence. He trained himself to transcend his physical attributes and to move into the spiritual realm. Physically he was also ahead of his time and he made a b impression on his rivals. After meeting Senna, Prost was never the same again" said Dempsey.

The visit continued through the Manufacture's various workshops. In the After-Sales Service Department, Patrick Dempsey was visibly delighted to recover his "Monaco" with its red strap that he recently damaged during a competition and that was returned to him as good as new by an employee of the Manufacture, who was heartily thanked by the actor.

    Skiing and motor racing
Patrick Dempsey follows in the footsteps of Steve McQueen, actor and driver ambassador of the brand, with whom he also shares great charm and a blue-eyed gaze. "My collaboration with TAG Heuer started with Le Mans" he explains. "As a sponsor, TAG Heuer has supported me in my passion for motor racing and this has continued. You've seen the museum: TAG Heuer is more interested in cars than celebrities. The first time we met, it was very special. We talked about skiing. When I was young, I dreamed of being a ski champion. I also wanted to discover TAG Heuer's passion and its creations and that is why I am here today. When one visits the workshops here, one can see the passion of the people who work here and how committed they are. When I look at my watch now, I see it differently. It is even more precious than before."

    50th birthday
Asked about his 50th birthday that he will celebrate next January, Patrick Dempsey admits that he doesn't feel his age. "I feel much younger and I am in better shape today than when I was 20. I have cut my hair shorter in order to look younger but aging doesn't bother me. I almost think that life is just starting now. And motor racing keeps me young because it forces me to remain in excellent physical shape. Having a passion in which you can indulge, makes you feel again. I feel as young as when I was a kid and I dreamed of going to the Olympic Games."

    "Don't crack under pressure"
How does this driver, who placed second at the most recent Le Mans 24 Hours, in the GTam category, clocking up an average speed of 205 km/h, withstand the pressure of competition? "If you are well-rooted in the present, if you live the moment and react to that which is happening now, you succeed. But if you think about it too much and you worry about the future and the past, you'll crack" he analyses. Guided by this insight, the TAG Heuer ambassador, who made no secret of the fact that he has new television projects in the pipeline including one on Formula 1, adopts TAG Heuer's motto as his own: "Don't crack under pressure."

  • TAG Heuer - Stephane Linder leaves

Stephane Linder took over the management of TAG Heuer in July 2013, succeeding  Jean-Christophe Babin, who moved to Bulgari. The man from Neuchâtel joined TAG Heuer in 1993, taking on various responsibilities, in particular in R&D and product development, notably setting up the high-end watchmaking division, as well as responsibility for sales in North America.

The departure of Stephane Linder, who "has decided today to resign from his role of President & CEO of TAG Heuer to pursue other professional endeavours," according to a press release issued by TAG Heuer, comes several months after the brand announced redundancies and short-time work, in Switzerland and at La Chaux-de-Fonds.
TAG Heuer, which belongs to the LVMH group, had also previously announced that it was abandoning production of its new in-house movement and repositioning its watch production in the 1,500 - 4,000 Swiss franc price range targeted by Jean-Claude Biver, who is reponsible for the watchmaking segment of LVMH.

The name of Stephane Linder's successor has not been communicated.

  • TAG Heuer - Yulia Snigir Launches New Model

Some 20 VIP guests gathered in TAG Heuer boutique at Stoleshnikov during a very exclusive event to celebrate the return of Yulia Snigir one year after cutting the ribbon at its opening together with Jean-Christophe Babin. This time, the talented Russian actress came to celebrate the launch of new Lady Link Automatic and a very special day in her career - the Russian premiere of "Good Day to Die Hard" as lead actress.

The friendly gathering was nice and cosy, and everybody wished her all the very best for her carreer in Hollywood. On the next day Yulia's arrival to the movie premiere at the Oktyabr cinema theatre was followed by over a hundred of photographers and news reporters. Dazzling at her wrist, her new Lady Link Automatic gifted by the Moscow TAG Heuer team the night before. • TAG Heuer - Fourth Manufacture

Only a few months after the acquisition of ArteCad and less than 3 years after opening its movement manufactures in La Chaux de Fonds and Cornol, TAG Heuer continues its ambitious industrial integration process by building a new Avant-Garde manufacture in Chevenez, Canton of Jura, Switzerland.

In presence of the local representatives, Messieurs Michel Baconat, Mayor of Haute-Ajoie and Michel Probst, Ministre de l'Economie et de la Cooperation du canton du Jura, as well as Jean-Daniel Pache, President of the Swiss Watchmaking Federation and Jack Heuer, Jean-Christophe Babin virtually layed the first stone by scealing a Calibre 1887 movement into a concrete block that will serve as a decor in the future Manufacture's entrance. The construction of the 2,400 square meters facility will last 18 months.

Key components of the TAG Heuer mechanical chronographs will be produced and finished, as well as assembled in the new Chevenez manufacture as early as end of 2013. In total, over 100 new jobs will be created and the site as a whole will employ over 150 staff. The mechanical movement component production currently based at the Cortech facility in Cornol will be transferred to the new Chevenez site, enabling TAG Heuer to allow Cortech to concentrate on case production while significantly increasing capacity.

  • TAG Heuer - Cameron Diaz, New Brand Ambassador

TAG Heuer's newest brand ambassador Cameron Diaz appeared before delighted international press on the Rhine river banks the night before the opening of BaselWorld. Welcomed on stage by thunderous applause, she proudly displayed the new Link Lady.

"I am thrilled to be here in Switzerland to be a part of the launch of the Link Lady" said Cameron Diaz. "Throughout my career, I have been very selective about aligning myself with brands. I love the fact that TAG Heuer challenges the rules and thinks outside the box and I'm honoured to be associated with such an iconic and forward-thinking brand".
Cameron now joins the highly exclusive circle of TAG Heuer Ambassadors: alongside Maria Sharapova, she will champion timepieces dedicated to women, whilst Leonardo DiCaprio, who needs no further introduction, with Formula 1 World Champions Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, Chen Dao Ming in China and Shah Rukh Khan in India, will support the models for men. Worthy heirs of Steve McQueen, they all have the ability to defy the rules and defy conventions, to fight for a cause and challenge their own values and assumptions; free-minded and rebellious to the very core, they give time new look, a new allure. Like TAG Heuer, they are pioneers, all in their own unique way. With her unorthodox body of work challenging every principle in the making of a star, Cameron Diaz is dangerously more than just a sexy blonde. Her partnership with TAG Heuer was therefore a given.

On her wrist the totally feminine Link Lady, the newest and most elegant of the TAG Heuer range. "I have been a fan of the TAG Heuer brand for many years. When they showed me the design for the Link Lady, I thought it was the perfect evolution of timeless watchmaking and iconic designs, all reinterpreted with glamour and elegance for a modern woman". The case is a little round pebble, refined and delicate. The bracelet is inspired by the iconic LINK bracelet with its S-shaped links. The dials come in several colours and the edges feature a light undulating concentric guilloche. Finally, as Cameron Diaz likes to point out, this is much more than a watch, it is a piece of jewellery.

  • TAG Heuer - Carrera 1887 Chronograph

TAG Heuer: the undisputed world champion of chronographs
For five generations, TAG Heuer has marshalled its resources and know-how in a concerted effort to master the tiniest fractions of time. This incessant drive has made the Swiss brand the unrivalled leader in high-end chronographs — one of mechanical watchmaking's most sophisticated and demanding complications. Examples of TAG Heuer's prowess in this field are legion, from the 1/100th-of-a-second Mikrograph stopwatch in 1916 to the 2006 Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix winning Calibre 360, the first mechanical wrist chronograph to beat 360,000/hour.
Today, this mastery is epitomized by TAG Heuer's unparalleled line-up of 7 mechanical chronograph movements (Calibre 11 and 12 developed with Dubois-Depraz, Calibre 16 and 17 from ETA, new in-house Calibre 1887 unveiled in December 2009, Calibre 36 developed with Zenith and Calibre 360).
To strengthen its longstanding leadership and continued growth in luxury chronographs, TAG Heuer needed further differentiation among the "engines" powering its masterpieces, more variety of performance and construction, and an unlimited access to high-volume movements. This is why, in early 2006, TAG Heuer started working on the design and development of the Calibre 1887, an automatic chronograph movement of superlative reliability and sophistication. Unveiled at the McLaren Technology Centre in December 2009, this powerful 21st century engine is now being launched commercially in an all-new Carrera chronograph of stunning design and performance.
The TAG Heuer Carrera 1887 Chronograph extends the mythical Carrera collection, which was created in 1964 by Jack Heuer. The brand's CEO in the 60s and 70s, Jack Heuer is the creative genius behind key TAG Heuer icons like the Monaco, the Silverstone or the Aquaracer (born as the "1000 Series" in 1979). Today he is TAG Heuer's Honorary Chairman, and as active as ever. A legend in the watch industry, he has overseen the redesign of every new generation of the Carrera family.
The TAG Heuer Carrera 1887 Chronograph is the 21st century design evolution of the 1964 icon, more than ever celebrating and emphasizing its original minimalism, purity, readability and understated elegance. A "Grand Classique" re-invented for TAG Heuer's 150th Anniversary, it is faithful to the original in design and spirit, but its radical new "engine", the Calibre 1887, turns it into a 3rd Millennium chronograph in terms of size, quality, performance and accuracy.

The TAG Heuer Carrera 1887 Chronograph: a masterpiece of modern engineering developed, produced and assembled in TAG Heuer's audacious, state-of-the-art facility in Switzerland
The TAG Heuer Carrera 1887 Chronograph epitomizes TAG Heuer's pre-eminence in mechanical movement and case manufacturing. Its key movement parts (main plate, oscillating weight plate and bridges) and case are manufactured internally in the TAG Heuer Cortech factory in Cornol (Jura), a state-of-the-art, "all-under-one-roof" workshop equipped with avant-garde Swiss machines and robots capable of stamping, milling and finishing with to-the-micron precision. Cortech also houses the first-ever Swiss robot capable of automatically selecting and setting the Calibre 1887 movement's 39 jewels. This breakthrough in modern engineering allows for the production of a true "Manufacture" movement at a very competitive cost — a perfect embodiment of TAG Heuer's famous "fair cost/fair price" philosophy.
The Calibre 1887 is a highly advanced column wheel/oscillating pinion integrated chronograph movement platform. It is developed from intellectual property elements acquired from Seiko Instruments Inc (SII), which designed and patented it as TC78 in 1997/99, making it one of the newest constructions in the high-end chronographs world (most existing chronographs date back from the 70s or early 80s).
Having acquired the intellectual property rights from SII, TAG Heuer has devoted the last 3 years re-engineering and redeveloping key components like the assortment bridge and the main plate, and adding major technical features such as an eccentric adjustment screw to the oscillating pinion (patented first by Edouard Heuer in 1887).
TAG Heuer also partnered with 22 premium component makers (21 of them in Switzerland) to redevelop other major components such as the assortment, shock absorbers and raquetterie.
Final assembling takes place in a totally new, dedicated workshop at TAG Heuer's facilities in La Chaux-de-Fonds (Neuchâtel), on a semi-automated line under dust-free, fully hermetic conditions. Each movement is individually traced by high-performance software and undergoes 116 measurement sequences of rigorous quality control. Entirely automated stations, custom-made by a Swiss specialist in T0 and T1 machines, alternate with those requiring manual intervention — in this manner, the exacting, artisanal touch of the TAG Heuer watchmaster is always in complete control.
The Calibre 1887 is a new generation of Swiss-Made, high-quality mechanical chronograph movements. More than 20 million Swiss francs have so far been invested in the Cornol and La Chaux-de-Fonds facilities and 50 jobs created internally, along with many more indirectly through our local partners in Switzerland. This high profile ambitious project will eventually output several tens of thousands of movements each year.

The TAG Heuer calibre 1887: a new measure of excellence and a new generation of high-quality mechanical chronograph movements

Vibrating 28,800 times per hour, the Calibre 1887's 39-jewel, 29.3mm x 7.13mm movement is made of 320 components and has a 50-hour power reserve. A powerful, robust and easy to maintain engine, it houses an audaciously re-engineered version of its inspiration, the brand's 1887-patented oscillating pinion, along with a matching column wheel.
The oscillating pinion, patented in 1887 by Edouard Heuer, works in tandem with the column wheel, in much the same way as an automobile transmission.
The column wheel, which coordinates the start, stop and return-to-zero functions of the chronograph hand, functions like a gearbox. The smoothness and precision of its super-soft click start is a recognized element of high-end watchmaking excellence.
The oscillating pinion works like a clutch. The optimized version in the Calibre 1887 enables the chronograph to start in less than 2/1,000th of a second. The Calibre 1887 is also equipped with a High Efficiency Rewinding (HER) system, acknowledged by watch experts as the world's most efficient rewinding system because of its bidirectional automatic system, which delivers 30% more efficiency than the traditional inversor system used in most Swiss chronographs. The HER is also famous for its superior reliability and sturdiness.

The TAG Heuer Carrera 1887 Chronograph: a modern re-interpretation of the most iconic chronograph of the 1960S

The Heuer Carrera was born in 1962 in the pits and paddocks of the Twelve Hours of Sebring, where Jack Heuer, official timekeeper of the event, first heard tale of motor-racing's most gruelling endurance competition, the "Carrera Panamericana Mexico Road Race". It also pays homage to TAG Heuer's unique timekeeping contributions to the racing world, radical innovations like the Time of Trip (1911), the first car dashboard chronograph; the Mikrograph (1916), the first sports stopwatch accurate to 1/100th of a second; and the Autavia (1933), the first 12-hour dashboard timer for AUTomobile and AVIAtion.
When he launched the Carrera in 1964, legibility was Jack Heuer's highest priority. By placing the 1/5th of a second in the inside tension ring of the crystal, he freed up 2 mm of space on the flat dial. It was a world first and an instant success, a favourite of watch and motor-sports enthusiasts alike for its timeless design and uncluttered style, and a masterpiece of functional and minimalist elegance. Relaunched in 1996 and completely revamped in 2002, the Carrera is one of TAG Heuer's most iconic creations. It has been worn by hundreds of TAG Heuer driving greats, including Juan Manuel Fangio, Kimi Räikkönen or Lewis Hamilton.
The TAG Heuer Carrera 1887 Chronograph boldly synthesizes this unique history. A celebration of 150 years at the forefront of luxury chronograph design, it proudly displays its star component — the Calibre 1887 mechanical chronograph movement, with its blue column wheel, top quality Swiss balance spring with micro-blazed finishing, and TAG Heuer oscillating weight — through its stunning sapphire crystal case-back. The tachymeter scale on the satin-polished bezel identifies its motor-racing heritage, and the high-end finish and optimized proportions of the silver and black dial distinguish it instantly as a grand classic in the Carrera tradition. Water-resistant to 100 metres, its unique folding bracelet has double, lateral-pressure pushbuttons for greater security, ease of use and greater comfort. Special luminescent markers on the hands and after the indexes ensure cockpit-fast legibility in all light conditions. Pure and sober in design, with the same great legibility as its 1964 ancestor, it is supercharged by the all-new chronograph movement beating inside. Simply stated, the TAG Heuer Carrera 1887 Chronograph raises the bar of refined technology and design.

  • TAG Heuer - Cäsar Menz & Osvaldo Patrizzi

In 1882, Heuer earned its first patent for a sophisticated chronograph mechanism, followed five years later by the invention of the "oscillating pinion", still used in today's mechanical chronographs.
The history of TAG Heuer features a host of landmark technical inventions and a consistently innovative and meticulous approach to aesthetics. It is not by chance that the brand earned the 2002 Design Prize in the "Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve" for its F1 Micrograph.
The Geneva Watch Museum, one of the city's art and history museums, was brutally burgled on the morning of November 24th 2002. These tragic events led to the disappearance of 180 extremely precious objects belonging to the museum's treasured legacy. Shortly afterwards, in a spirit of exemplary solidarity, TAG Heuer management generously offered the museum a set of twelve watches and movements providing an exemplary representation of the brand's impressive history.
As director of the City of Geneva's art and history museums, I was very touched by this gesture and am delighted that the Watch Museum should be able to preserve these invaluable testimonies to the know-how of Swiss watchmaking. Exempla docent, as they used to say in Latin.Cäsar Menz

The name TAG Heuer immediately conjures up visions of Formula 1 races and the great unforgettable champion Ayrton Senna. Whether one is a sports enthusiast or simply keen on precision, the TAG Heuer logo sweeps us into the dynamic world of competition, a world where the hundredth of a second becomes a merciless referee.
TAG Heuer has established a solid and enviable reputation. The company's successful role in the greatest sports events of the past decades have placed it in the avant-garde of timekeeping and new technologies for measuring time.
Few people are aware and will be surprised to learn that the firm was founded in Saint-Imier by the young Edouard Heuer in the summer of 1860, at the age of just 20. The name he gave the new manufactory was "Edouard Heuer, Fabrique d'horlogerie". An astute businessman but also an inventor, he regularly filed numerous patents. Among the most important was a pendant winding system, placing him in direct competition with Patek Philippe and Louis Audemars in Le Brassus. But there was also the column-wheel for chronographs, a key invention in watchmaking, which ensured the swift and ultra-precise engagement and disengagement of the chronograph lever from the time gear-trains.
Five generations and dozens of horological inventions stand between Edouard Heuer and Jack Heuer, the current TAG Heuer Honorary Chairman. The firm is now called TAG Heuer. bly committed to research and development, it consistently creates new sports timekeeping models. It contributes both a watchmaker's point of view and a vast body of knowledge in the field of precision stemming from the brand's sporting heritage.Osvaldo Patrizzi
