I love this Longines PrimaLuna watch!! You have to like bling as a friend of mine says. It is an eye catcher and people have grabbed my arm to look at it. It isn't for someone who doesn't like attention paid to their jewelry. It is a fun and practical watch. I have worn it casual with jeans and also out with a black dress and heels.

The Swiss watch brand and Capannelle have revealed their partnership on October 20th during an event at the Palazzo Wedekind in the center of Rome. That same evening, Longines also awarded the prize "Premio Longines Lydia Tesio - Le Signore dell'Ippica" to six women active in the equestrian world. The elegant model The Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph was the official watch of the event.

In the warmth of the roman autumn, the racecourse of Capannelle welcomed the Grand Prix Longines Lydia Tesio this Sunday. The Italian rider Fabio Branca on the Italian horse Quiza Quiza Quiza has won this Group I race of 2'000 meters opened to 3 years old fillies. The jockey, the owner and the trainer of Quiza Quiza Quiza were presented with Longines watches. The whole day was marked by the elegance and the refinement among the public, true to Longines' slogan "Elegance is an attitude".
This race is dedicated to the memory of Donna Lydia, the first lady of the Italian horse racing and wife of the great thoroughbred breeder Federico Tesio. It was therefore logical that Longines awarded early that week the prize "Premio Longines Lydia Tesio - Le Signore dell'Ippica" to six great women, who have distinguished themselves in the equestrian world. It was on this occasion, on Thursday October 20th that the Swiss watch brand also announced its partnership with the racecourse of Capannelle as official timekeeper. The highlight of this cooperation was of course the Grand Prix Longines Lydia Tesio of this Sunday.

As official watch for this event, the brand selected a classical and refined model that perfectly reflects the precision and the beauty of equestrian sports. The Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph gives priority to classical and refined beauty. The column wheel that forms part of the movement serves to steer the functions of the chronograph mechanism. This model has a stainless steel, 39 mm diameter case that surrounds a silvered dial with 13 hour symbols. It displays the hours and minutes with a small seconds at 9 o'clock, as well as the date plus of course the chronograph functions: centre seconds sweep, 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock and 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock. This model is fitted on a dark brown alligator strap and is water-resistant to 3 bar (30 meters).

The Jumping International Officiel de France in La Baule (France), where Longines was the official partner and timekeeper for the sixth year in a row, lived up to the expectations last weekend.

The prestigious Grand Prix Longines de la Ville de La Baule was awarded to Mclain Ward (USA) riding Sapphire followed by Mario Deslauriers (USA, 2nd place) riding Urico and Jesus Garmendia Echevarria (Spain, 3rd place) riding Lord du Mont Milon.

La Baule also marked the first stage of the Longines Press Award for Elegance. This prize pays tribute to the most elegant and successful male and female riders of the season. The procedure is as follows: the 20 riders (10 men and 10 women) who have accumulated the most performance points during the 6 Nations Cup events where Longines is a Partner are short-listed. In Dublin, the last stage of the Nations Cup, a jury of International journalists will elect the most elegant male and female riders from the short-list.
After this first competition, Beezie Madden (female horseriders category) and Mclain Ward (male horseriders category) are leading the intermediate ranking. The next step will be at the CSIO Piazza di Siena in Rome from 27th to 30th May 2010.

The CHIO Falsterbo, where Longines was the official partner and timekeeper for the first time, lived up to the expectations last weekend. We would especially like to congratulate the Swiss rider Pius Schwizer on taking the first place in the Longines Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph

On the strength of its long experience in timing, Longines has designed a timepiece that pays tribute to the various timing mechanisms developed during the company's history. Named the Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph, this model houses a brand new calibre whose exclusive development by ETA was mandated and financed by Longines and other brands within the Swatch Group. This self-winding, chronograph movement has a column wheel which drives the mechanism that measures periods of time - a technical device used by the famous St. Imier brand since 1878.
Longines started manufacturing timing equipment in 1878 with the launch of a simple 20 line chronograph; reference number 20H, that had a column wheel (covered by a washer) that governed the chronograph mechanism. Following Longines' progression into the field of timing, almost all the measuring equipment devised by the company used this same principle. Both calibres for pocket chronographs made by Longines, such as the 19CH (1889), the 19.73 (1887), the 19.73N (1909) and the 19.73N with a split-seconds function (1922), the 18.72 (1929) or the 24 line calibre intended specifically for sports timing (1939) and movements for the brand's wrist-chronographs, such as the 13.33Z (1913), the famous 13ZN (1946) or the 30CH (1947) thus all incorporated column-wheel systems for controlling and activating the chronograph functions, which varied according to the specific calibre.
This collection of timing equipment formed the foundation for Longines' history of involvement in timing and the world of sport. The mechanical, column-wheel chronograph thus became a traditional and authentic technical device at Longines. The new Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph model continues this horological heritage into the 21st century.
Having identified the modifications that have affected the world of mechanical timepieces over the past few years (a marked demand for high-quality mechanical watches, the popularity of mechanical chronographs and a fascination for traditional horological devices among the general public), Longines and other brands within the Swatch Group mandated and financed the exclusive development of a self-winding movement with a column wheel for a wrist-chronograph which has now been produced by ETA. This calibre is a contemporary embodiment of a long tradition of mechanical timing which is Longines' heritage.
Fitted with 27 jewels, the L.688.2 movement is a self-winding calibre with a diameter of 30 mm and a height of 7.90 mm. The blued steel column wheel controls the chronograph functions (start, stop, return to zero) and is part of a work of art that is a stylish update of a traditional technique. Beyond its sleek design, the L.688.2 calibre is an inspiring creation designed specifically to meet the demands of timing.
 To house this brand-new, exclusive movement the watchmaker has chosen classical and elegant lines that are reminiscent of the timepieces that contributed to its success during the 20th century. The Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph has a stainless steel case with a diameter of 40 mm that houses the L.688.2 calibre whose intricate workings can be admired through the transparent case back. The gold-plated Dauphine-style hands are mounted on top of a silvered dial featuring, gold-plated applied hour symbols, a small seconds at 9 o'clock, a 30-minute continuous action counter at 3 o'clock and a 12-hour continuous action counter at 6 o'clock. The timing features of the Longines Column-Wheel Chronograph combined with a classical design make this model a contemporary watch that echoes the great tradition of mechanical timing.
