  • FHH - At the Salon "Belles Montres" in Paris

The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie is presenting "Fine Watches for Land, Air and Sea" at the Belles Montres International Prestige Watch Fair. This exhibition shows how timepieces have adapted their functions to the different situations in which they are used.
On land, portable sundials and, later, the first watches accompanied travellers on their way. However, these early watches lacked the precision needed to offer a reliable measurement of time.
Major inventions ensued. Calculating the longitude of a ship at sea by means of an accurate timepiece was a matter for watchmakers before becoming a matter of state. Huygens, considered the father of precision timekeeping, made the first inroads. The problem was finally solved by French and English master horologists in the eighteenth century. Their discoveries would ensure the economic supremacy of the century's great seafaring nations. The watch rose to prominence with the railroad in the nineteenth century. Most importantly, the railway led to the introduction of universal time, after the world had been divided into twenty-four time zones.
In the twentieth century, the airplane adapted watchmaking's previous contributions to maritime transport until high speeds meant that time could no longer be measured by mechanical means, but by other forms of technology.
The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie pays tribute to this long tradition and is staging, in Paris, "Fine Watches for Land, Air and Sea." This exhibition brings together more than 80 wristwatches and pocket watches from the earliest models to today. They have been loaned from the collections of the Foundation's partner-brands, and from the collections of the Musee International d'Horlogerie in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the Musee de l'Horlogerie et de l'emaillerie (one of the Genevan Musees d'Art et d'Histoire), the Musee d'Horlogerie at Château-des-Monts in Le Locle, and the Musee d'Horlogerie Beyer in Zurich.
Joining these historic pieces are some twenty contemporary watches by the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie's partners.
Curated by Dominique Flechon, an expert in the history of time measurement with the FHH, the exhibition will open visitors' eyes to the important role which Fine Watchmaking has played in the expansion of travel.
The Foundation's partners are: A. Lange & Söhne, Antoine Preziuso, Audemars Piguet, Baume & Mercier, Boucheron, Cartier, Chanel, Chopard, Corum, Daniel Roth, Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry, Gerald Genta, Greubel Forsey, Girard-Perregaux, Hermes, Hublot, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, JeanRichard, Montblanc, Musee d'Art et d'Histoire de Geneve - Musee d'Horlogerie Beyer, Zurich - Musee d'Horlogerie du Locle, Château-des-Monts - Musee International d'Horlogerie, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Richard Mille, Montblanc, Panerai, Parmigiani, Perrelet, Piaget, Roger Dubuis, Vacheron Constantin, Van Cleef & Arpels, Zenith.

  • Corum - Admiral's Cup Challenge 44 Black & Gold

Embodying the sporting face of Corum since 1960, the Admiral's Cup line has consistently appealed to watchmakers through the emblematic shape of its 12-sided case and its flange adorned with nautical pennants. Named after a prestigious international regatta, the collection is one of the brand's four pillars, along with Romvlvs, Corum Bridges and Artisans.

This champion of the sea challenges the limits of sporting chic design and technical prowess with the introduction of two limited editions bly accented on style. Mysterious and fascinating the bi-colour look is currently very much in vogue. With the Admiral's Cup Challenge 44, Corum introduces a contemporary interpretation to embody this trend - with black or grey PVD coating on all surfaces, richly decorated with red gold accents - a mix of materials produce a distinctive face for a powerful yet elegant timepiece.

Both variations feature the signature Admiral's Cup twelve-sided case. Adding a luxurious touch to the timepiece, a red gold bezel crowns the dial, enhanced by the reflection of the red gold counter appliques and faceted minute chevrons. Measuring 44 mm in diameter, it has been given an avantgarde black or grey PVD surface treatment using cutting-edge procedures to achieve an exceptionally hard (1300 Vickers) coating.

Also applied to the chronograph pushers, this treatment further enhances the intensity of the color, while reinforcing the sophisticated nature of the timepiece and the contrast with the red gold crown. Equipped with a date corrector at 10 o'clock and water resistant to 100 meters, the case is secured by a screwed open back cover.

It is fitted with a vulcanized rubber strap complete with folding clasp. Protected by a 12-sided sapphire crystal, the dial features the collection's characteristic nautical pennants. Since the latter are usually depicted in full color, the monochrome pennants are aesthetically underlined with red gold, on the Admiral's Cup Black Challenge 44 to reinforce the strength of the deep shade of the dial. The hands are coated in red gold and filled with a luminescent substance in harmony with the dial color.

The Admiral's Cup Black Challenge 44 houses Calibre CO753, a mechanical self-winding chronograph movement that is chronometer-certified by the COSC - a guarantee of precision and reliability. Powering chronograph functions as well as the date at 4.30 in addition to conventional hour, minute and seconds indications, this movement is graced with an oscillating weight, a black or grey PVD finish and engraved with the CORUM brand name powdered in red gold.

In keeping with a reputation built on the exclusive nature of its designs, Corum presents these two models in limited editions of 188 pieces for the black PVD version and of 128 pieces for the grey PVD version.
