Great watch at the on sale price. I would have loved it completely if it had a date. Easy to get on and off with one hand which was the reason for buying it. Hard to judge durability since it is new, but am hopeful that it will last

Inspired by the Romain era, the Imperiale watch appeals first and foremost by its harmonious proportions and refined details. The serene strength of its details distils a wealth of characteristics that are all nods to the heyday of the imperial age. Roman numerals punctuate the dial, while the curved hands are reminiscent of the tapered daggers used by sovereigns in battle. The shape of the lugs reflects the tradition of ancient columns famed for their perfectly balanced proportions. Finally, a diamond-set crown delicately curved like a lotus flower is fitted on the case middle with its pure, sleek sides designed to give the model a lighter touch and an even more lustrous glow. The sheer wealth and finesse of its details make the Imperiale collection an eminently feminine model that echoes the spirit and the splendour of imperial classicism.

The new Imperiale 36mm Joaillerie model beats to the rhythm of a self-winding movement and reprises the collection's design codes with a regal bearing: the dial appears adorned with magnificently shimmering Tahiti mother-of-pearl, while the bezel and the lug-covers are entirely set with diamonds. The fascinating dial reflections, together with the radiance of diamonds, create a luminous harmony to which a subtle silver-toned brushed canvas strap sets the perfect crowning touch.

The story of Chopard and the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique (GPMH) is a the tale of a meeting between two worlds with converging values: beautiful traditional watchmaking and classic cars.
An impressive retrospective

Organised by the Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM), the GPMH is an impressive historical retrospective of Monaco's famous car race. Every two years, more than 200 drivers from 19 different countries line up at the start line with exceptional Grand Prix racing cars from between 1947 and 1978, competing in one of the seven categories listed by the organisation. This event is unquestionably the most popular of all classic car races, attracting collectors from all over the world to compete in a fiercely contested series.

Chopard and classic cars

The partnership between the Geneva-based company and GPMH is bly linked to the passion that unites the Scheufele family with the world of classic cars. Already in 1988, Karl and his son, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, both unconditional devotees, committed the family brand to the Mille Miglia, a car race that criss-crosses through Italy from Brescia to Rome and back.
 
Since 2002, Chopard has been supporting the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique as its official timekeeper. For every GPMH, Chopard creates a limited edition of an eponymous watch, featuring a design inspired by the automobile world. These models are equipped with COSC-certified movements and, like the racing cars competing in the GPMH, offer a concentrated blend of technicality and sleek design.
 

From May 9th to 11th 2014, for the seventh time in a row, Chopard will thus once again proudly serve as official timekeeper for this prestigious Monaco event. 
 

Drawing upon the original Italian race from Brescia to Rome and back, the California Mille is a 1,000 mile, four day excursion through the picturesque back roads and historical highways of Northern California, featuring over 70 vintage race cars made before 1958. In honor of the race, Chopard designed a special edition Mille Miglia Gran Turismo XL watch exclusive to participants.

The Drive
The California Mille race began on April 25th at 8:30am, departing from Mason Street in San Francisco. The drivers spent the morning passing through key points such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Mt. Tamalapais, and the Infineon Raceway in Petaluma. After spending the afternoon on Highways 116, 121, and 29, the drivers finished the first day at the Solage Calistoga. On Day Two, drivers made their way through Geyserville, Lake Sonoma, Skaggs Springs Road, Highway 1, Highway 128, Cloverdale, Asti Road, and back to Calistoga. On the third day, the drivers traveled along the Silverado Trail and took laps at Thunderill Race Track. The race path took them along Highway 162 and 206, Danley Road, Freshwater, and Highway 20 with a return trip back to the Solage Calistoga. The concluding day featured a route through Mill Valley, which was renamed "Mille Valley" for the day, and ended in Sonoma with a final banquet and awards dinner at the Lodge at Sonoma. Throughout the race, the drivers make lavish pit stops that included dining at world-renowned restaurants, staying at luxurious hotels, and a visit to a private Mercedes-Benz collection, considered to rival the carmaker's own collection in Stuttgart, Germany.

Passionate about vintage cars, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Co-President of Chopard. has been playing an active part in the Mille Miglia since 1988, when Chopard supported this event for the first time. Scheufele has twin passions for classic cars and fine watch making, and has a remarkable personal collection of cars including many pre-war and post-war English and German makes. In his words: "Lovers of fine automobiles are said to have a weakness for precious timekeepers and vice versa. In both domains, extreme precision and sporting elegance play an important role". Lifting the hood of a car provides an understanding of what is going on inside the engine, and the same goes for horological mechanisms that may be admired through a watch case-back. Chopard and Classic Car Racing have thus become synonymous, giving rise to a collection of Mille Miglia watches which represent elegance and high performance needed in both the watch and classic car race industries. To commemorate The California Mille 2011 event, Chopard created a Mille Miglia Gran Turismo XL watch featuring the logo of the California Mille 2011 race, available exclusively to participants of the California Mille. Five watches were presented to five extraordinary drivers, selected by the Mille mechanics and crew.

The new Chopard L.U.C XP Tonneau combines technical expertise, rarity and elegance - a set of qualities achieved by Chopard Manufacture, where this exceptional model was born. L.U.C Calibre 3.97, a shaped movement that is chronometer-certified by the COSC.

Chopard's L.U.C collection welcomes a refined model that combines technical qualities and aesthetic virtues. Born at the heart of Watch Valley within Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier, the L.U.C XP Tonneau model, an ultra-thin interpretation of the tonneau or barrel-shaped model, now appears with a particularly distinguished new look. The pared-down dial now features Arabic numerals. The new, slender case gives this watch a modern appearance, while maintaining a touch of tradition that has created the destiny of Haute Horlogerie.

The L.U.C XP Tonneau displays the hours, minutes, small seconds, and the date shown through a window at 6 o'clock. All these functions are driven by the ultra-thin, self-winding L.U.C. Calibre 3.97. Entirely designed, developed, fine-tuned and produced in-house, this movement is a mere 3.30 mm thick - a technical detail that incorporates an off-centred micro-rotor and a double barrel (based on patented Chopard Twin® technology) supplying an over 65-hour power reserve.
Chronometer-certified by the COSC, a reliable Institute of quality and reliability, the movement follows the contours of the case housing it - a rare distinctive feature matching the demands of Haute Horlogerie. The L.U.C 3.97 proprietary movement can be admired through the sapphire crystal case. The slender, slightly curving case makes a perfect fit on the wrist and is available in 18-carat rose or white gold with satin-brushed and polished finishing.

The sunburst silver dial carries the new signature features of models in the L.U.C collection: more elongated Dauphine appliques, Arabic numerals, an extremely fine sunburst satin-brushed finish centred around the word CHOPARD, and a minute track to enhance the high-precision image of these models. The refined face is underscored by the new L.U.C Dauphine hands and framed by a brown or black alligator leather strap complete with a gold pin buckle.
