To celebrate the 10th anniversary of its Trophee, Chopard could not have dreamt of a more prestigious patron than Robert De Niro, the legendary actor and President of the Jury of the 64th Cannes Film Festival. In a ceremony held in the lounges of the Martinez Hotel and attended by a number of great names in the movie world, the American star officially awarded their prizes to Astrid Berges-Frisbey, the enchanting siren in the fourth episode of Rob Marshall's Pirates of the Caribbean and to Niels Schneider, the enigmatic object of desire in Xavier Dolan's Heartbeats (Les Amours imaginaires). After the ceremony, guests flocked to the terrace of the Chopard Lounge on the top floor of the hotel to enjoy an exceptional anniversary gala evening.
Cannes, May 2011 - Born from Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele's passion for the film world, the Trophee Chopard awarded in partnership with the specialised Premiere magazine and with the support of the President of the Cannes Film Festival, Gilles Jacob, is designed to encourage new youthful talents by naming them best "Revelations of the Year" For this 11th edition, in addition to Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele, the jury was composed of actress Marisa Berenson and film director Claude Lelouche, who were both present at the award ceremony, along with producer Takis Candilis and the Chief Editor of Premiere magazine, Mathieu Carratier. After careful deliberation, these professionals singled out Astrid Berges-Frisbey and Niels Schneider. Hosted by Guillaume Durand, the ceremony also featured a look back at the ten years of the Trophee Chopard, including a surprise screening of a message from Marion Cotillard, who won the Trophee in 2004. The two young actors accepted their prizes with gratitude and emotion. As precious to receive as it is to admire, the Trophee Chopard represents a powerful symbol of cinema in the shape of a reel of film meticulously crafted by the master jewellery of the House. For the very first time, the ceremony will be broadcast on the internet in pre-recorded form. Thousands of spectators will thus be able to enjoy the event.
After the prize giving, laureates, jury members and prestigious invitees continued the festivities on the terrace of the Chopard Lounge, located on the top floor of the Martinez and the scene of an exceptional anniversary evening celebrated with plenty of Boizel champagne and chilled Grey Goose cocktails. Amid a refined decor featuring subtly graded shades of pink and red, guests savoured gaspacho verrines rosemary-flavoured shrimp skewers accompanied by Clarendelle wines, to the sound of 1950s style music from the excellent Michael Arenella And His Dream Orchestra specially flown in from the United States.
Among the guests at this exclusive event with its "glamorous" dress code were many luminaries who had responded favourably to Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele's invitation. Uma Thurman was wearing a pair of diamonds earrings with a matching bracelet while Jude Law was reading the time on a Chopard watch. Models Karolina Kurkova, and Alexa Chung, former Trophee Chopard awardees, Rodrigo Santoro and Ludivine Sagnier as well as Emilio Pucci's designer Peter Dundas were also amongst the guests of a perfect 10th anniversary celebration.
