  • Zenith - Congratulations to Quantum Racing

Quantum Racing won the premier class at the 34th Copa del Rey MAPFRE, TP52s for the third time in a row when they won the final race.

Victory in the Mediterranean's showcase regatta was a real family affair. Son Dalton DeVos steered the first two days of the regatta before father Doug DeVos took over for the final days.

"That was by far the hardest Copa del Rey that we have won" grinned Hutchinson on the dock at the Real Club Nautica de Palma. "It is a rewarding day and a rewarding win. As much as the DeVos family have given us over the eight years, what an awesome, awesome day for Quantum Racing. To do it with our inspirational leader Doug and his son Dalton doing the first two days of the regatta…..you would say we did not do it the easy way. And yet it is by far the most rewarding."

  • Zenith - Two New Online Services!

These services were developed to respond to the growing number of requests and are in line with a desire to establish a simple, accessible, efficient procedure which will enable Zenith to ensure the level of excellence that the company owes to its clients.

    The archive extract service
The archive extract service is designed for anyone in possession of an old Zenith watch (not part of the current collection) and seeking information about it (namely the year it was made, in certain cases the name of the collection or model, the target market, etc.). The amount of information that Zenith can provide depends not only on what the company has in its archives but above all on the information supplied by the client.

To ensure Zenith historians can do the most extensive possible research, it is advised that each client provide the number of the movement and good quality photographs, as well any other information that might be of use.

Zenith is committed to sending back an archive extract within 30 working days, which will, in most cases, contain the date the watch was manufactured in Le Locle and other information related to its production. Wherever possible, the manufacture will also provide historic catalogue extracts and historical advertisements along with this document.

The archive extract can only be ordered on the website and costs CHF 120. This will increase to CHF 150 if the client wishes to receive a paper copy of this document. The payment covers the research conducted by the Heritage Department. Zenith commits to do everything possible in order to conduct the research but cannot guarantee that the result will be successful.

All requests sent through alternate means (e-mail direct, etc.) cannot be processed and will be re-directed to our dedicated web portal.

    Certificates of authenticity
The possibility of ordering a certificate of authenticity represents another innovation and rounds off the client offer.

Contrary to the archive extract, which provides information on the basis of information provided and without examining the piece, the certificate of authenticity is based on an extensive examination of the timepiece conducted by one of Zenith's After-Sales Service specialists in collaboration with the Heritage Department.

The information in the certificate mainly refers to the type, case and movement. It may also contain information on the characteristics of the watch. If the complete examination of the watch reveals that part of the watch is not original, Zenith reserves the right not to deliver the watch's certificate of authenticity.

The owner of the timepiece subsequently receives a quote for the certificate of authenticity, accompanied by an offer from the After-Sales Service for restoring and servicing the watch. If the client does not wish to have his timepiece restored, the certificate of authenticity will cost CHF 500. In the event of the watch being restored, the certificate of authenticity will be free of charge.

Each timepiece must be sent through Zenith service centres, Zenith boutiques or certified retailers. No watches sent directly to Zenith will be processed.

  • Zenith - Red Bull Stratos ready to go

The Red Bull Stratos space capsule has passed high-altitude simulation testing after it was damaged in July's final practice jump, and a launch date has been set for October 8 in Roswell, New Mexico.
ROSWELL (New Mexico) - The final countdown for Felix Baumgartner's history making jump from the edge of space began on Monday after the Red Bull Stratos Technical Project Director Art Thompson declared the repaired space capsule is fit and all systems are go. The tentative launch date for Baumgartner's attempt to jump from an altitude of 36,576 meters has now been set for October 8, ending a period of uncertainty for the team and, for Baumgartner, the agony of waiting. The Austrian extreme sport athlete had to endure delays due to the repairs but is now delighted that the countdown is on for his attempt to become the first person to break the sound barrier in freefall and set four other world records in the process. Zenith Manufacture is one of the main sponsors and sole timekeeper of this extremely dangerous mission.

"I feel like a tiger in a cage waiting to get out," said Baumgartner, 43, one of the world's most celebrated B.A.S.E. jumpers and extreme athletes, who in 2003 became the first person to make a freefall flight across the English Channel with the aid of a carbon wing. He will be flying as fast as speeding bullet during his supersonic journey to Earth.
Aviation pioneer Baumgartner and the Red Bull Stratos team have been preparing for years to break the record for highest-altitude jump, eclipsing a mark set more than 52 years ago. The capsule, which at about 1.315 kilogram weighs a little bit more than a VW Beetle, was damaged in a hard landing following Baumgartner's final test jump from a near-record altitude of 29,610 meters in July - during the jump Baumgartner was freefalling at speeds of up to 864 kilometers per hour, or as fast as a commercial airliner. The Austrian landed safely in another part of the New Mexico desert.

On September 24, the repaired capsule underwent testing in an altitude chamber at Brooks City-Base in San Antonio, Texas. The capsule was exposed to the extreme conditions it will face in the unforgiving environs of the stratosphere. After passing all the tests, the capsule was sent back to Roswell.
A central aim of the Red Bull Stratos project is to collect valuable data for science that could ultimately help improve the safety of space travel and enable high-altitude escapes from spacecraft. The jump will also attempt to break an assortment of records such as highest speed in freefall, highest jump, highest manned balloon flight and longest freefall.

Thompson is cautiously optimistic about the launch date of October 8, while acknowledging that perfect weather conditions are needed for the delicate 850.000 cubic meters helium balloon, which is made of plastic that has 1/10th the thickness of a Ziploc bag. Mission meteorologist Don Day confirmed, "Early fall in New Mexico is one of the best times of the year to launch stratospheric balloons."
A WATCH FOR THE ULTIMATE AIRBORNE CHALLENGE
Accuracy and reliability have been the watchwords of the Manufacture Zenith, manufacturer of navigational chronometric instruments for civil and military aviation since 1865. The fact that one of its timepieces will be the first to break the sound barrier in a near space environment with Felix Baumgartner will once again prove the brand's reliability under extreme conditions. Zenith timepieces are indeed well accustomed to "trials by fire", such as that undergone by the famous El Primero, the first automatic high-frequency chronograph, that crossed the Atlantic fixed to the landing gear of a Boeing 707 in 1970, on the AF015 flight from Paris to New York. Subjected to drastic changes in temperature, pressure and terrible jolting, it imperturbably maintained its regular cadence of 36,000 vibrations per hour and required no adjustment, having remained accurate to the nearest second - apart from the inevitable timezone difference.

Like all models in the brand range, this model is indeed entirely in tune with the corporate values of authenticity, daring and pleasure. Authenticity, since it embodies the brand's pioneering spirit and the excellence of traditional craftsmanship. Daring, as reflected in its conception and construction. And of course pleasure, because it is intended to delight the wearer of the watch troughout his dreams.
As the faithful heir of the Rainbow Flyback model developed for the French Air Force in 1997, the Stratos is equipped with the world's most accurate automatic chronograph movement - the legendary El Primero - as well as the Striking 10th and Flyback functions, making it an eminently suitable partner for Felix Baumgartner's exploit. Watches and cockpit flight instruments are subjected to abrupt variations in pressure, intense vibrations and violent accelerations - from 9 Gs to 11 Gs. Thanks to its robust construction, the El Primero Stratos can withstand it all - and will be right there with Felix Baumgartner as he tests the edge of the human envelope.
On a visual level, the three different counter colours echo the first El Primero chronograph launched in 1969 with a three-tone dial that was extremely unusual at the time and designed to enhance readability. The darker anthracite-grey colour for the hours counter at 6 o'clock accentuates the length of time being recorded, while the light-grey colour of the small-seconds counter at 9 o'clock symbolizes the fleeting nature of time, and the midnight-blue minutes counter at 3 o'clock epitomizes the intermediate nature of this unit of measurement.
In addition to the chronograph, the El Primero Stratos is also equipped with the Striking 10th function, which serves to read off 1/10ths of a second and is combined with the flyback mode that is particularly useful in the field of aviation and a favourite with pilots - since it enables instant resetting of the chronograph functions in one smooth, easy move.
ZENITH AND THE EL PRIMERO STRIKING 10TH
This mission in the stratosphere will test the reliability of Zenith watches under the most extreme conditions: temperature, low pressure, speed, friction, impacts, etc. If the jump is successful, Zenith will be the first to have a watch cross the sound barrier in a near space environment. Zenith CEO Jean-Frederic Dufour explains what spurred him to participate in this mission: "We have often been forerunners in unexplored domains and we have accompanied people in there most incredible projects. It is this ability to come up with new ideas, and then push through with new technical developments before anyone else, that is most fascinating at Zenith. Our watches have participated in some of the grandest human adventures: explorer Roald Amundsen's discovery of the North and South Poles; Mahatma Gandhi's peaceful fight for India's independence; the laying of the foundations of ecology by the learned Prince Albert I of Monaco; Louis Bleriot's Channel crossing; John F. Kennedy's political action; intrepid explorer Colonel John Blashford-Snell in various endeavours such as his latest expedition to Nepal; as well as Johan Ernst Nilsson in his daring Pole2Pole mission. Felix Baumgartner is made of the same stuff as these pioneers and we are very excited that the El Primero Stratos Flyback Striking 10th will accompany him on his exploit."

  • Zenith - New Boutique in Geneva

On December 19th 2011, a boutique exclusively dedicated to watches from the Swiss watch manufacturer Zenith has opened on one of Geneva's busiest streets, at no. 35, Rue du Rhône. This new concept store is far more than just a boutique; it's a whole universe featuring an interior design that draws visitors into a temple of Swiss watchmaking tradition, the Manufacture Zenith. This legendary firm is still located in the exact spot where its founder Georges Favre-Jacot first established it in 1865. To this very day, it is there that each Zenith timepiece is developed, produced and assembled, benefiting from expertise handed down and enriched for almost one hundred and fifty years.

Enter the world of the Manufacture Zenith
The boutique located on the rue du Rhône will be the second in the world (after Hong Kong) to feature the new design Zenith has developed for its points of sales. From the outside already, it stands out from the crowd thanks to its geometrical storefront studded with glass panes and framed by two large stone columns - both characteristics directly inspired by the architecture of the historical Zenith headquarters.
Upon stepping through the doorway, visitors are immediately immersed into the Zenith universe - a discreet world combining subtle expertise and noble materials assembled with a blend of precision and elegance. The interior decoration of the boutique picks up the same play on horizontal and vertical lines as the outside window, interpreting it in displays, counters and exhibition areas. A private space has been developed especially to welcome our VIP customers. In terms of materials, the dominant theme is wenge wood combined with "Chantilly" stone, creating a refined contrast between a deep chestnut brown and a luminous matt creamy shade.

Manufacture Zenith, a precious gem within the world watchmaking heritage
Only a few rare brands can still boast complete mastery of the production of their own timepieces and thus lay claim to the supreme title of Manufacture. Zenith is one of these, and one can even safely state that its founder, Georges Favre, is the inventor of the concept of a watch Manufacture. It was he who had the idea in 1865 of building spacious and luminous buildings in Le Locle, in the Swiss Jura, where the full range of specialised artisans involved in the making of the various movement parts could be brought together under one roof. Prior to this, these craftsmen worked independently, scattered between various small workshops : uniting them in one place would enable them to coordinate their work in order to improve the accuracy and the reliability of the watch mechanisms.
To this day, the Manufacture is still located in the exact place where the founder built his first workshop, and its buildings are part of an industrial ensemble that UNESCO added to its list of World Heritage sites in 2009 under the title "Watchmaking town planning". This is where all stages involved in production are still performed, which means that anyone acquiring a Zenith timepiece can enjoy the absolute certainty that it has been developed and produced from start to finish in the workshops of Le Locle.

The excellence of the Zenith tradition
The Manufacture in Le Locle has considerable technical and creative potential : in its 147 years of existence, it has filed more than 300 awards and won a vast number of timing competition prizes - 2,333 in all, making it the most titled brand. in terms of onboard watches, wristwatches and pocket-watches. Its achievements include the development of the world's most precise series-produced mechanical calibre, beating at a frequency of 10 vibrations per second.
All the Zenith collections will naturally be on hand to be admired, tried on and adopted in the new Geneva boutique. Whether the feminine lines (such as the Zenith Heritage Ultra Thin Lady Moonphase, an ultra-thin model interpreted in versions including some extremely elaborate models falling into the luxury jewellery category), or the masculine models, they are characterised by their innate elegance (Captain, a range encompassing models with a variety of horological complications), by their sporty appeal (El Primero Stratos Flyback), or by a technical tradition magnificently represented by the El Primero Striking 10TH model offering tenth of a second readoff. Zenith will also offer passionate enthusiasts a number of fine watchmaking models that the Manufacture produces in strictly limited series, such as the recently launched Academy Christophe Colomb, the first wrist chronograph featuring a movement housed within a miniaturised gyroscopic cage in order to neutralise its wearer's movements. All this and more awaits visitors to the brand-new Zenith boutique on Rue du du Rhône.

  • Zenith - The latest watchmaking creations

Zenith's sales reached blast off last year with the CEO announcing double-digit growth. This development is primarily due to the collections being refocused on the brand's founding values: esthetics, accuracy, and technical complexity. The tone has been set! Not satisfied with simply perpetuating tradition, Zenith is reinventing it with style and panache.

    A sneak preview in Geneva

On the evening of Sunday, January 16th, a panel of over 100 international journalists and retailers of the brand gathered in Geneva. This annual meeting, held before the first watchmaking trade show of the year, has become an unmissable event. The curtain was raised to the sounds of the Gypsy Queens, who provided the soundtrack for this presentation.

Zenith in orbit - the three new lines
The Captain, available in three versions, is the purest expression of Zenith's watchmaking heritage. Each one features a useful complication: power reserve, moon phase or second time zone. The second line, Chronomaster, brilliantly combines the most rigorous watchmaking tradition with contemporary boldness. The Chronomaster Open showcases the very heart of time, revealing its movement's 36,000 vibrations through an opening in its dial. This open window piques our curiosity through both the magic it exudes and the questions it raises. But let there be no doubt: the Chronomaster Open is above all a technological exploit, a timepiece that is 100% technology, 100% passion. The third line, the El Primero Striking 10th, is currently flying high above the Earth at a speed of 27,700 km/h. Launched by a Soyuz rocket, the watch reached the International Space Station (ISS) in December 2010. It will remain in space for six months, orbiting the Earth.

    The pioneering spirit
Zenith has always been a trailblazer in previously unexplored fields. The three new lines presented in Geneva are further proof of the brand's ability to innovate and launch exceptional models before anyone else. For the first time at Zenith, the Striking 10th model provides a visible mechanical expression of the tenths of a second it measures, i.e. each beat of the heart that drives the famous El Primero.

  • Zenith - El Primero Tourbillon

One of the most difficult feats to perform in watchmaking is constructing a tourbillon. This mechanical element improves precision by counterbalancing perturbations created by the Earth's attraction on the balance's regularity. The correction is made by having the balance and the escapement turn on themselves. In Switzerland these days, you could count on one hand the number of watchmakers capable of constructing it. So, a "homemade tourbillon" is a sure sign that the company possesses and masters watchmaking know-how. ZENITH is no longer content to resolve just one difficulty, no matter how complex it may be. Our tourbillon is combined with a chronograph calibre with a calendar - another watchmaking complication - and a high frequency, a third challenge. It is the only watch on the market with such a complex mechanism, aiming to attain the most precise chronometric performance possible. Furthermore, its value for the money is unequalled on the market, for a truly exceptional piece of timekeeping that joins the family of Zenith 's iconic models — taking pride of place.

This tourbillon is unique in more than one way: it shows off its rotating carriage in the upper left-hand part of the dial, including a built-in calendar. This asymmetry aesthetically highlights the tourbillon's mechanism, visible through an opening in the dial, while maintaining fine proportions and elegant lines. The date is displayed - in a patented system - by means of a disk around the circumference of the carriage. The El Primero chronograph's automatic calibre is the heart of the movement. While the high frequency assigned to this exceptional motor generates greater precision, it also demands increased power. To protect performance, ZENITH designers have developed an in-line escapement that shifts the balance spring to the outer edge of the rotating carriage. The result is a tourbillon and a high-frequency automatic chronograph with over 50 hours of power reserve. The calibre is composed of 381 components, including 67 for the rotating carriage. Yet, it is barely 1 mm thicker than the original El Primero.

The only tourbillon on the market that operates at high frequency
The tourbillon comes in two models: steel or rose gold, with counters at three and six o'clock. The seconds hand in the tourbillon carriage rotates with it in 60 seconds. A true mechanical masterpiece and a technical exploit, to date, the ZENITH tourbillon is the only one to beat at a high frequency, with a quarter more vibrations of its balance than other constructions.

Let us examine the unique characteristics of the ZENITH tourbillon. The case's middle is formed using a double stamping process, which creates one curve at a time along the length and depth. The olivette makes it easier to grasp the crown. The magic of the calibre in movement can be seen through the Sapphire glass. So, if you love chronometric feats, you are going to adore this watchmaking creation.

  • Zenith - The 100 km/h mark is topped by a sailing craft

The Frenchman thus superseded the previous record-holder Alain Thebault and his hydrofoil trimaran hydroptère, which had reached a speed of 95 km/h. Alexandre and his kitesurf thus managed to travel 5 km/h faster than the previous record-holder.

For years, a variety of craft have been competing against each other on water. At each attempt, the frantic race between kitesurfs, wind- surfs, trimarans and hydrofoils pushes back technical and human limits. And it was a kitesurf - a surfboard drawn by a kite - that broke the 100 km/h (54.10 knots) barrier for the first time. The kitesurfer responsible, Alexandre Caizergues, is an exceptional sportsman and most likely the best kitesurfer of his generation. He arrived in the bay of Lüderitz, Namibia, with the stated goal of beating the world record that Hydroptère had held for a year (93.65 km/h in September 2008). Alexandre pulverized it, reaching an average speed of 100.19 km/h over 500 meters, a speed ratified by the World Sailing Speed Record Council. So, the legendary 100 km/h mark, pursued by so many speed demons, now belongs to the young Frenchman.
    Testimonial
"It's incredible", exclaimed Alexandre following his performance. "Being the first to top 100 km/h is a real accomplishment. I've been training all year for this, and my preparation has paid off. I'm also very happy to be taking back the world record on water, which I used to hold. Now, there are no more limits!" For others, the bar has now been raised. Yet, is not impossible to reach, especially for Hydroptère, which notched up a maximum speed of 103 km/h when setting its own record, but not over 500 meters (records set below this limit are not valid). So, the race to beat the speed record on water remains as fierce as ever! So fierce, in fact, that Alexandre's record has already been beaten by the American Robert Douglas, who clocked up a speed of 103 km/h on 28 October 2010.

    Simplicity takes the victory

A surfboard and a kite: that's all Alexandre and Robert needed to go beyond the 100 km/h mark. In the mad dash between windsurfs, kitesurfs and multi-hulls with rigid wing sales or hydrofoils, this time, the simplest system won.

Zenith, the brand linked to record-breaking performances on water

Since its beginnings, the Swiss Manufacture Zenith has accompanied sailors at sea. Its sailing chronometers have helped navigators find their way on the world's oceans and precisely determine their longitude. Precision is essential at sea, where a single erroneous second can result in a positioning error of 463 meters. Today, Zenith is proud to be associated with this new exploit alongside its brand ambassador, Alexandre Caizergues.

    Zenith and its pioneering spirit
The Zenith brand has often broken new ground in unexplored territories. This ability to come up with new ideas, then pursue them - before anyone else - with new technical developments is fascinating.
Zenith watches have participated in some of the greatest human adventures: the explorer Roald Amundsen's discovery of the North and South Poles, Mahatma Gandhi's peaceful struggle for India's independence, the laying of the foundations of ecology by Prince Albert 1st of Monaco, Louis Blériot's crossing of the English Channel, John F. Kennedy's political action and French doctor Jean-Louis Étienne's solo balloon flight over the North Pole. And very soon, a Zenith watch will participate in an attempt to be the first to cross the sound barrier in direct contact with the stratosphere, thereby proving its exceptional reliability. Today, Zenith returns to its first love, sailing, and becomes the first watch to top the legendary 100 km/h mark in a sailing craft.

Energy of the future: kites tow cargo ships

Today's biggest ecological challenge is to reduce emissions of CO2, the gas responsible for global warming. Any idea - even the most outrageous - is worth considering. In the area of maritime transport, German engineers have designed a kite - very similar to those used for kitesurfs - that can be attached to the front of cargo ships and containers. The huge kite is deployed once the ship is at sea, and its surface area of 160 m2 tows the ship for its entire voyage, thus reducing its fuel consumption.

Thrust equal to that of an Airbus

The kite's traction power can reach 8 tons, which is equivalent to the thrust of an Airbus A318. The principle behind this type of haulage is not to replace engines, but to complement them in an effort to reduce their consumption of polluting fuels. This hybrid propulsion would save 2.5 tons of fuel daily, thereby reducing costs by €700 and achieving fuel savings of about 20%. In the near future, these German pioneers expect to attain 30% to 35% fuel savings on an entire trip using nothing but the wind, an inexhaustible, free and clean source of energy. Regatta competitors and romantics won't begrudge sharing the wind with anyone. Constantly nurturing a pioneering spirit in its own field, Zenith truly appreciates visionaries who dare and those who invent and help the world to move forward. And when this progress is clean and silent, it is all the more admirable.

    Additional geographic and biographic information
    Lüderitz in Namibia

The natural Lüderitz lagoon is located in the middle of the Namibian desert. Its location satisfies all the necessary conditions to flirt with world records. On days when the south wind really picks up, backed by a breeze from the desert, speeds can reach 45 knots or more.
    Biography
Born on March 14, 1979 in Marseilles, France, Alexandre Caizergues subsequently lived in the port city of Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône. In 2005, he entered the Mondial du Vent competition and won his first world champion title two years later.
In 2008, Alexandre set the new speed sailing world record in Namibia with an average speed of 93 km/h over 500 meters. In 2009, he was crowned world speed champion for the third year running. On October 12, 2010, he made history by becoming the first person to top the 100 km/h mark with a sail.

  • Louis Moinet - Jules Verne Instrument 1 & Instrument 2

"From the Earth to the Moon"

    JULES VERNE - Instrument 1
    December 1
Having the exact time is absolutely essential to the success of this fantastic attempt. At exactly 10:46 and 40 seconds, the moon's zenith and perigee will simultaneously be ideal. "Thirty-five! Thirty-six! Thirty-seven! Thirty-eight! Thirty-nine! Forty! Fire !!"
A cone-nosed cylindrical shell bursts forth from the mouth of the Columbiad - the most fearsome cannon ever built - headed for the Moon! On board this space vessel is Impey Barbicane, President of the Baltimore Gun Club and leader of the mission. This "eminently serious and focused man", "as accurate as a chronometer" is "adventurous, but brings practical ideas to even his rashest undertakings". With him are Captain nicholl, his best enemy; and Michel Ardan, a capricious Parisian. These heroes do not return to earth until Around the Moon, in which their craft splashes down in the waters of the Pacifi c. This work, published in 1870, coincided with Charles Dowd's initial suggestion for dividing the united states into four time zones!

    JULES VERNE - Instrument 1

An extraordinary instrument featuring two world firsts:
An invention: a new way to use your chronograph. Louis Moinet has invented an advanced technical solution to start and stop the chronograph. This device off ers the advantage of fully securing the handling of the chronograph.
A real piece of the moon: following Magistralis and Datoscope, the Jules Verne line is the first limited edition in the world to use a real piece of the moon. This lunar meteorite is presented in a porthole at 9 o'clock.
    Chronograph With 2nd Time Zone

    "Around the Moon"

    JULES VERNE - Instrument 2
Accurate measurement of time was essential to these adventurers embarking on their trip Around the Moon, if they were even to attempt to achieve the aims of their spacefaring experience. so they were constantly checking their chronometers to calculate their speed and determine how much time they could still safely remain in their shell. For example, "On December 4, when the travellers awoke after fi fty-four hours of fl ight, the chronometers showed fi ve o'clock in the morning, earth time. Time-wise, they were only fi ve hours and forty minutes more than halfway through the time allowed for their stay in the projectile; but in terms of distance they had already completed nearly seven-tenths of the crossing..."
There is no doubt that a perfected measuring instrument was very useful for the calculations made by these heroes of Jules Verne - an author born in 1828, the year the fi rst split-second chronograph was patented !

    JULES VERNE - Instrument 2

An extraordinary instrument featuring two world firsts :
An invention : a new way to use your chronograph. louis Moinet has invented an advanced technical solution to start and stop the chronograph. This device off ers the advantage of fully securing the handling of the chronograph.

    Split-Second Chronograph

    Jules Verne & Louis Moinet

    Jules Verne's inspiration
Jules Verne (1828-1905) was widely travelled, readily inclined to be fanciful, and above all a true writer who is among the world's most translated authors. Jules Verne's plan was to "depict the whole earth". To achieve this, he had to contemplate all the knowledge of his day. Moving through a century of changes for which he became the ideal spokesman, he followed a specifi c programme for modern mankind's appropriation of the space that surrounds it.
How can one explain his impact on scientists, authors, adventurers… and even just plain readers of all ages? Probably by his gift of fi lling our hearts with the desire to set out and come to grips with the world's last secrets! Who has not dreamed of treading the soil of an unknown land? Of encountering creatures from the dawn of earth's history? Of travelling around the world on a simple bet and meeting a soul mate along the way? Of going off to conquer the Moon? Who has not imagined himself as Captain nemo standing on the nautilus' bridge, gazing into infi nity, sextant in hand?... All while sitting at home with a book!
Following in Jules Verne's footsteps is not merely paying homage to an extraordinary storyteller; it also means being inspired by his thirst for discovery and his tremendous intellectual ambition.
    Jules Verne And Louis Moinet
Did Jules Verne and louis Moinet know each other ? It might well have been the case ! Jules Verne the author and louis Moinet, possibly the most artistic of all watchmakers, certainly had much in common. They lived in Paris, in the middle of the 19th century, and were both passionate about theatre and technical developments. This has been our inspiration to create an extremely high-tech watch line based on a proud heritage.
    Jules Verne
Did the inspired master watchmaker and the science fiction writer ever meet? That is the enigma we decided to solve in our own way, along with Jean-Marie Schaller. Jules Verne passed away in 1905, Louis Moinet in 1853. They shared a passion for innovation. And even if they did not meet, they had every reason to do so. With one mastering time and the other taming science, all for the good of mankind, in this case watchmaking and writing have something in common: accuracy. The sophistication of the movements used in Louis Moinet's systems, and the wealth of detail and extreme credibility mingled with poetry found in my illustrious ancestor's narratives, which were based on the scientific discoveries of his day, bring the two realms astonishingly close together. It is obvious that Jules Verne's work plays constantly with time and space. Several of his works of science fiction were to leave their mark on the history of literature: Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, From the Earth to the Moon, Robur the Conqueror… These were nothing more than the accurate calculations and predictive vision of science projected into the future.
One obstacle remained: time. Around the World in Eighty Days captured that challenge, won by the man searching for a form of eternity. And I'll give you a scoop: Phileas Fogg travelled with a Louis Moinet.
    Jean-Michel Verne
    Journalist and writer
Jules Verne and timeYou wear a watch. Does it make you feel that you are in control of time? Or does it not rather make you feel the opposite… that you are always chasing after time… lost…?
Jules Verne asked himself the same question. What was his answer? I leave it for you to discover by reading a short story first published in a magazine in 1854, then again in a book in 1874. The title is Master Zacharius and the story is set in Geneva, Switzerland. Master Zacharius is a watchmaker, the best there is. Gradually, as the story unfolds, he starts to suppose that he controls time. I will leave you the pleasure of discovering what happens to someone who wants to show that he is God's equal…
From the Moon to the Earth
    JULES VERNE - DHOFAR 459
A world first by Louis Moinet - A real piece of the moon! Dhofar 459 is a lunar meteorite that was ejected from the moon 2,000 years ago. The meteorite, which has been authenticated by the university of California, actually added to our knowledge of lunar geology, since it came from a place that the Apollo missions did not visit. Moon stone is an extremely rare material that is even more expensive than gold and platinum combined.

A travel from the Moon to the Earth

500 millions years ago, a fi rst asteroid impacted the Moon. Then, a second asteroid impacted the moon at the same place, circa 2,000 years ago, giving birth to Dhofar 459. Dhofar 459 was accelerated by this asteroidal impact and escaped the Moon's gravitational infl uence. After a journey of unknown duration, it became captured by the earth's gravitational fi eld and eventually landed on earth, in the Desert of Dhofar (sultanate of Oman).
How do we know that it comes from the Moon ?
Dhofar 459 has been analysed and classifi ed by A. rubin and Paul Warren, Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics, university of California, los Angeles. of any other type of meteorite or terrestrial rock. Chemical compositions, isotope ratios, minerals, and textures of the lunar meteorites are similar to those of samples collected on the Moon during the Apollo missions. Taken together, these various characteristics are diff erent from those of any other type of meteorite or terrestrial rock.
    What is a Lunar Meteorite?
Lunar meteorites are meteorites from the Moon. In other words, they are rocks found on earth that were ejected from the Moon by the impact of an asteroid or possibly a comet. After orbiting the moon for a long time, they were eventually captured by earth's gravitational fi eld, and fell to earth as solid objects. Lunar meteorites are exceedingly rare nearly all meteorites are pieces of asteroids. Only a few rare meteorites come from the Moon.
