Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph Blue (5500V/110A-B148)

Perfect watch -more reasonable size compared to the gagantuan 51-50. bright white dial, solid band. crowns lock so no water enters. Ive wore mine snorkeling and surfing with no issues at all. highly recommended!

My son-in-law thought it was kind of large. The self-winding watches tend to be that way these days. I gave him a smaller battery run watch also, that he seemed to like more.

The star lot of the sale is the Patek Philippe Ref. 2499/100 Fourth Series retailed by Tiffany & Co. Considered one of the most iconic models ever produced by Patek Philippe, the Ref. 2499 has become the most collectible model of all complicated timepieces made by the famous Swiss manufacturer in the past several decades. Made circa 1980, the present lot is a very fine and rare 18K yellow gold wristwatch with round button chronograph, 30-minute register, perpetual calendar and moon phases.

History buffs will be enticed by the Jaeger-LeCoultre Ref. 201 Early Steel Reverso retailed by Golay Fils & Stahl that formerly belonged to General Douglas MacArthur. Made circa 1935, this is a fine historically important and very rare, rectangular curved, reversible, stainless steel wristwatch.

The reference 1463 is the only Patek Philippe vintage chronograph to have a water-resistant case and has become one of the sought-after watches of the company's production. Made in 1947, the present example is an 18K gold watch featuring a round button chronograph, register and tachometer accompanied by the Extract from the Archives and a Patek Philippe fitted case.

The exhibit coincides with an interactive online event, The American Heritage of Vacheron Constantin, launched on August 15th. The exhibit and online event are the intersection of American history with the company's 256-year history and the rich stories of its American collectors. The exhibit will be open to the public and on display from September 12 through October 30, 2011.

The American Heritage of Vacheron Constantin Exhibit will showcase timepieces never before seen in the United States. Several interesting and rare timepieces have been pulled straight from the Vacheron Constantin museum in Geneva, Switzerland including the original American 1921, the classic driving watch first conceived during the Roaring Twenties. A pocket watch owned by automotive magnate James Ward Packard, repurchased by the maison for $1.8 million at Christie's June auction, will also be shown.
In addition to the fascinating pieces from the Vacheron Constantin archives, the exhibit will include a number of exquisite timepieces from the personal archives of Vacheron Constantin US collectors. Two unique timepieces that have never before been seen in public will be on display including a timepiece created in 1935 for King Farouk of Egypt. The piece was one of the most complex pocket watches ever produced. Another extraordinary addition to the exhibit includes a stunning 18K yellow gold and enameled open-faced watch from 1910 previously owned by famed railroad tycoon Diamond Jim Brady, a privately owned piece loaned courtesy of Sotheby's.

The exhibit will be on display at the new Vacheron Constantin boutique located at 729 Madison Avenue - the first boutique in the United States and the brand's 28th boutique worldwide. The boutique opening is a milestone occasion in Vacheron Constantin's 180-year history with the American market. The location of the New York boutique is a distinct historic location, housed in a building that is the work of architect William E. Bowbray and built in 1908. Located on the southeast corner of Madison Avenue and 64th Street, the brand solidifies its deep roots with the US in a truly exceptional location.
