  • Chopard - Happy Fish

The Happy Fish collection welcomes a splendid model. Offering a delightfully harmonious vision in turquoise and gold, the graceful movements and flowing curves of a majestic fish that is visible by night come to life through delicate engraving on the shimmering mother-of-pearl. The delightfully rounded shapes adorned with gold leaf create a softly glistening and luminous effect enhanced by graded shades of snow-set blue sapphires.

Dancing across these waves are seven luminescent moving diamonds, while the red jasper eye of the fish stands out like an exclamation mark against the turquoise backdrop. The extreme delicacy of this jewellery craftsmanship continues on the bezel which is set with diamonds of three different alternating sizes for a softer effect, while the 18-carat rose gold case fitted with a white shimmering alligator strap shelters a mechanical self-winding movement.

The Happy Fish watch is a limited edition of 25 pieces and is exclusive to Chopard boutiques and corners.

  • Talisman lady - It's your lucky moment !

So, superstition or not, to ward off seven years' bad luck, what harm could there by in slipping a lucky charm watch onto the wrist ? A look at the details of the charms, amulets and other precious gris-gris that, in addition to bringing you luck, will give you the exact time.

A SPIDER IN THE EVENING BRINGS HOPE

Spotting a spider on a wall is supposed to be a lucky sign, so how about on the wrist ? Actress Natalie Portman, who certainly seems to be living a charmed life, has placed the spider motif at the heart of the RM 19-01 created in partnership with Richard Mille. Somewhere between mystery and fascination, the predatory insect spreads its feet on a diamond-studded checkered pattern created using a clever combination of intertwined
lines. One could quite happily get caught up in the web of this 20-piece limited edition tourbillon.

THE GAME OF LOVE AND CHANCE

No need to wait for springtime to question the flowers regarding the object of our desire. The number one game of lovers' superstition, plucking the petals of the daisy is a small pleasure that can now be enjoyed year-round. Christophe Claret's romantic and ingenious Margot watch reproduces nature's little surprises thanks to an innovative system which, at a simple press of a button on the side of the case, makes one or two petals disappear
to the sound of a pleasant chime. The message is therefore displayed randomly. The game of "he loves me, loves me not, loves me, loves me not" offers a far greater variety in French ("un peu, beaucoup, passionnement, a la folie, pas du tout") and if the result is not
what you wanted, just start all over !

    FETISH OBJECT

DeWitt adopts a powerful lucky symbol to adorn the dial of Alma, the Manufacture's second collection entirely devoted to women. The dainty horseshoe framing the mother-of-pearl dial becomes even more precious when set with diamonds. Even those who
deny all susceptibility to superstition will fall under the spell of this distinguished and refined lucky charm watch. So if you feel putting a horseshoe above your door appears somewhat tasteless, wearing this lucky charm on your wrist might also work to avert
evil… with the added bonus of pleasing elegance.

    LUCKY NUMBER

It is regarded as a sacred number. The seven days of Creation, the seven Chakras, the seven wonders of the world… And, with the Happy Sport Tourbillon Joaillerie watch, come Chopard's seven moving diamonds. Housed between two sapphire crystals, they twirl in a free-spirited choreography on a diamond paved dance floor. Equipped with an L.U.C 02.16-L movement produced by Chopard Manufacture, this 42 mm-diameter gem
displays the time with extreme reliability. And that is definitely not a question of luck !

    THE 8 OF INFINITY

A symbol of good luck, balance and perfection in China, the number 8 has also asserted itself as a cornerstone of Jaquet Droz aesthetics since the Age of the Enlightenment. Simultaneously chic and relaxed, the Lady 8 reinterprets this code through a modern, uncluttered design. The rotating ball adorning the top of the case is made of black ceramic. Both this element and the upper portion of the case are surrounded by diamonds. With this emblem of infinity on the wrist, the wearer can revel in the endless fascination of time and its passing.

    FOUR-LEAF CLOVER

While Louis Vuitton's Monogram motif is not a four-leaf clover, it certainly bly resembles one. In addition to admiring this precious, delicate object that combines fine diamond setting with tone-on-tone engraved mother-of-pearl, it intuitively creates an impression of bringing good luck. And if by some twist of fate that doesn't happen, this 30 mm Dentelle de Monogram watch showcased by a riviere-style diamond-set bracelet, certainly has the power to transform us into a princess. A combination of magic and bewitching elegance…

  • Chopard - L.U.C 1963

Featuring a shape dictated by a hand-wound movement bearing the Poinçon de Geneve quality hallmark, its dial occupies almost the entire diameter of its generously sized rose gold case. A wristwatch equipped with a pocket-watch movement, it is a direct descendant of the chronometers that Chopard was still producing in 1963, the year the Scheufele family acquired the Geneva-based company.

Jutting slightly out from The 44 mm-diameter case, the lugs gently mould the curve of the wrist. The sides of the 18-carat rose gold case are cambered and brushed, while the slender rounded bezel is polished. The pure, translucent porcelain-style white dial bears a small seconds subdial at 9 o'clock, dauphine hands, black Roman numerals and a rail track minute circle - all representing direct references to the golden era of chronometers. Nonetheless, each of these elements has been reworked. The small seconds subtly overlaps the minute track and bears red Arabic numerals ensuring a lively yet discreet presence. The design of the dauphine hands are typical of the new L.U.C collections. The Roman numerals follow the round shape of the dial and feature alternating solid and slender bars, while the minute track is composed of uninterrupted black 'rails' with 'sleepers' that never touch and thus create a lighter effect on this key structural element within the L.U.C 1963 aesthetic. Nonetheless, the most striking feature of this dial is undoubtedly its size, since it occupies almost the entire diameter of the watch. This substantial opening of 36.7 mm is a direct consequence of the presence of the L.U.C Calibre 63.01-L.

The mechanical hand-wound L.U.C 63.01-L movement is a smaller version of L.U.C Calibre 06.01-L. The latter was developed in partnership with the Geneva Watchmaking School and presented in 2010 to mark Chopard's 150th anniversary as part of the L.U.C Louis-Ulysse Chopard - The Tribute model. L.U.C Calibre 63.01-L with its 38 mm diameter is a large movement, yet with a simple architecture dictated by the absence of any horological complications. The movement's two-tone treatment creates an eye-catching effect, while the alternation between the rose gold shade and the colour of steel heightens the contrasts, enhances the movement's three-dimensional nature. The edition is limited of 50 pieces.

  • Chopard - A chat with Caroline Scheufele

Among your collections, which ladies' watch would you describe as a sure bet ?
Definitely the Happy Sport! We are celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and it can now be personalised. It's an affordable luxury watch and women rarely have the opportunity to get a one-of-a-kind model in this price range. To create their own watches, they can visit a Chopard boutique and examine the options, or first download the Happy Sport app and choose from the variations displayed on their tablet. This new possibility we are offering them is already a hit in Asia, and we are starting to see customers showing an interest in the concept in our Chopard boutiques.

Which Chopard accessories are most successful ?
The writing instruments, and notably the Mille Miglia line.

How many people work in the in-house jewellery and Haute Joaillerie departments ?
As far as Haute Joaillerie is concerned, 35 people are involved in the creative process, including three gemsetters. Haute Joaillerie gemsetting requires extremely sophisticated mastery, particularly when it comes to reproducing the subtle shades of fur stone by stone such as in our Animal World collection. Around 15 people handle the design of our jewellery lines, including 3D drawings ; while production of our gold bracelets and bracelets and small items such as earrings and pendant necklaces calls upon the talents of 40 people in our Geneva workshops and another 250 in our German subsidiary. Chopard has a total staff of around 2,000 working in our watch department, our Manufactures, our boutiques and our subsidiaries.

What does the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix mean to you ?
It is the watchmaking prize that rewards the very sources of our industry ; it is the most important and most representative of the watchmaking field, and as such is very important to us. The Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix has evolved in a very positive way over the years and we take part in each edition. We always hope to see our creations singled out from among the magnificent watches presented by our competitors, and this happens from time to time.

What benefits does the brand derive from its presence at the Oscars and at the Cannes Film Festival ?
While we are indeed present at the Oscars as a result of our involvement in Cannes for the past 17 years, I feel it is more appropriate to speak of our presence on La Croisette. As official partner, we not only make the Palme d'Or, but also created the Chopard Trophy in 2001 in order to reward youthful talents. The Chopard Trophy is part of the official Cannes selection, which means we have made a real new contribution to the world of cinema and are helping to encourage the up-and-coming generation. The young laureates enjoy international media visibility, which thus raises their profile. The film festival is the world's second largest media event after the football World Cup, which means Chopard does indeed enjoy significant spin-off effects from its sponsorship. Moreover, it is a precious opportunity for hospitality, since we make the most of the occasion to host our best customers from our boutiques and our partners, who are thus given a chance to tread the famous red carpet. Even the wealthiest individuals cannot treat themselves to this privilege, since there is no sale of tickets to attend these ceremonies. All this enables us to strengthen our customers' loyalty and nurture their dreams.

What is the price to be paid for Chopard's independence ?
The price is paid in air miles ! Since Chopard is a family business, as you mention, our clients and partners expect to see members of the family. My brother Karl-Friedrich* and I are in great demand on the markets and in our 150 boutiques, particularly in the latter half of the year. I am speaking to you from Dubai, and next week I'm flying off to Kuwait where we are inaugurating the world's largest Chopard boutique. I'll then return to Geneva for three or four days before travelling to inaugurate another one in Baku and then on to St. Petersburg to a shop-in-shop ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by an event in Moscow. After another few days in Geneva I'll be hopping on another plane for Shanghai. That gives you an idea of the degree of commitment required and the monthly pace of our lives. Fortunately, there is also a long list of positives, beginning with our freedom of action and the possibility of choosing our own path.

What advice would you give a sporty European businesswoman entering a Chopard boutique and wishing to treat herself to a complete set of items including a ring, bracelet, earrings, necklace, watch and accessories ?
To start with, a Happy Sport that she can wear from morning to night in an elegant and relaxed manner. Small diamond earrings because one never tires of them, as well as a pretty round or heart-shaped Happy Diamonds pendant according to personal taste. I would then advise a Temptation ring with a pink or blue stone, and possibly a sautoir necklace featuring four or five integrated elements such as exquisitely dainty Happy Diamonds, which may also form a bracelet wrapped several times around the wrist and which is extremely easy to wear. To set the finishing touch, I would suggest a small clutch bag, a pair of glasses and of course a Chopard fragrance !

  • Chopard - Green Carpet Challenge

The Green Carpet Collection was produced in accordance with the GCC® ethical benchmarking and producing to the highest sustainable standards. The GCC® is a project which pairs glamour and ethics to raise the profile of sustainable fashion. The GCC® is today regarded as the leading promoter of the beauty of ethical fashion worldwide and since its launch it has involved all the major fashion designers in the world and an array of A List celebrities on the biggest red carpets worldwide. The new diamond necklace worn by French actress Virginie Ledoyen in Venice is a perfect addition to Chopard's High Jewellery Collection. The necklace displays hand-cut diamonds sourced from Chopard's responsible business partner, the IGC Group.
It is set in Fairmined certified gold, from small artisanal South American mining communities who are supported by the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM). The necklace was created especially for the Mostra del Cinema of Venice by Caroline Scheufele. The design was inspired by the beauty of the landscape and passion of the men and women who work the small gold mines in the village of La Llanada in Colombia, one of the South American communities supported by Chopard through its partnership with ARM. Caroline Scheufele explained: "Our journey to sustainable luxury is one which is embraced by our whole company. It is the artisans in Switzerland with traditional skills and knowledge who, for well over a century, have created our finest jewellery and watches.Chopard is therefore very proud to be building on and extending this tradition by supporting the COODMILLA co-operative in the mountainous region of south western Colombia." Chopard, which has recently renewed its certification by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) has pledged to provide financial support to the mining communities through its NGO partner ARM to achieve a premium price for the communities for the gold they produce, as well as agreeing to source gold produced by the communities directly.
Caroline continued: "Over a thousand families will benefit through social, environmental and training provision to help them improve their productivity and practices and to thrive sustainably in a complex corner of the world. Our partnership with ARM in South America to support responsible, small artisanal miners will greatly improve the lives of people like Rosa-Maria Rosero. Rosa-Maria is a remarkable single mother of three and a community leader, who formed an artisanal mining co-operative in La Llanada that provides an independent, safe and dignified living for her family and neighbors."  Commenting on the Eco-Age (a brand consultancy working at the cutting edge of sustainability) and GCC® partnership with Chopard, Livia Firth - creative director and founder of the GCC®- said:  "In our frenetic world it's sometimes difficult to connect the glamour and beauty of a Chopard high jewellery piece directly with the artisanal mining communities of Colombia. Now we have clearly seen that this is what we do. Making this connection is so powerful. The smiles on the faces of the men and women when they learned that Chopard was to transform how they dug gold from the hills of La Llanada and how this will help them and their families, is testament to the difference that luxury brands can truly make to people half way around the world, but who are nonetheless valued as equals.  Priceless."
Chopard first launched its multi-year journey to sustainable luxury at this year's International Cannes Film Festival in May, in partnership with Livia Firth.

  • Chopard - Imperiale Joaillerie Amethyste

Equipped with a movement from the workshops of Fleurier Ebauches (the Chopard Group facility dedicated to industrial movement production) the Imperiale Joaillerie Amethyste model combines Haute Joaillerie and precision mechanics to create an exquisitely unique aesthetic. This new model is a watch graced with clean lines bearing elegant testimony to Chopard's impressive range of in-house capabilities.
Is it a watch or a piece of jewellery? That is a challenging question to answer due to the fact that the Imperiale Joaillerie Amethyste is clearly unwilling to reject either of its these facets. While the Imperiale Joaillerie Amethyste appears in majestic grandeur with its admirable gem-setting composed of graded shades of baguette-cut amethysts, baguette-cut diamonds and brilliant-cut diamonds, this irresistible treasure is also endowed with a mechanical movement entirely developed in-house and manufactured by Chopard in the Fleurier Ebauches workshops.

    A Chopard movement…
Entirely developed and crafted in the Chopard workshops of Fleurier Ebauches, the Chopard Calibre 01.03-C which drives the Imperiale Joaillerie Amethyste beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hertz) and is equipped with a barrel ensuring an excellent 60-hour power reserve. These technical characteristics ensure the reliability, performance and precision of this mechanical self-winding movement. Resting at the heart of the Imperiale Joaillerie Amethyste and visible through a transparent exhibition back, the Chopard Calibre 01.03-C appears in full splendour tinged with a magnificent shade of purple.

    …adorned in imperial splendour
Entirely paved with diamonds and amethysts, the 40 mm-diameter and 18-carat white gold case of the Imperiale Joaillerie Amethyste provides a spectacularly contrasting frame to its mother-of-pearl dial adorned with amethyst hour-markers. Enthroned at its centre and surrounded by diamonds, the characteristic arabesque motifs of the Imperiale collection, inspired by the scrolling patterns on imperial regalia, form a delicate background and serve as a subtle reminder of the dagger-shaped hours and minute hands. The presence of the colour formerly known as "imperial purple", the lugs inspired by the columns of classical architecture, and the crown shaped like a lotus flower form a regal set of details echoing the heritage of the grand historical empires in this watchmaking collection.

  • Chopard - The Classic heralds a new collection

The elegantly understated Classic heralds a new collection at Chopard. Equipped with a new mechanical movement developed and produced in-house, it is inspired by the magnificent pocket-watches that Louis-Ulysse Chopard had made his speciality, and symbolises the encounter between tradition and modernity.

Like a fragment of history that has found its way unscathed through time thanks to its noble and understated character, the new Classic by Chopard is a bridge between past and present, a link between the prestigious pocket-watches that forged the reputation of brand founder Louis-Ulysse Chopard, and modern-day wristwatches. As its name implies, everything about the design of the Classic reflects the delightful classicism of the Belle Epoque: the porcelain-type dial provides a perfect setting for the shiny black Roman numerals; the small seconds subdial at 6 o'clock features a "railtrack" graduation typical of the pocket-watches of the era; and the slender gold-toned hands set the finishing touch to the perfectly harmonious overall effect.

    A new "in-house" movement

Available in 18-carat rose, white or yellow gold, this timepiece with its refined exterior is equipped with Chopard Calibre 01.04-C, a new mechanical self-winding movement entirely developed in-house and produced in the workshops of Fleurier Ebauches, the Chopard Group unit in charge of the industrial production of movements not destined for its L.U.C Haute Horlogerie collection. After certain models of the Imperiale collection in 2011, it is now the turn of the first timepiece in the Classic collection to receive an "in-house" movement. The third reference produced by the Fleurier Ebauches workshops, Chopard Calibre 01.04-C drives the hour and minute hands, along with small seconds and a date display at 3 o'clock.

Beating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, it guarantees a generous 60-hour power reserve.

The beautifully rounded 38 mm-diameter case features an 18-carat gold crown and an exhibition back. The Classic is fitted with a matt black alligator leather strap fitted with an 18-carat gold pin buckle.
