  • Chopard - Partnership with Cinecitta Studios and the Instituto Luce Cinecitta

On the 15th of October, in Rome, Caroline Scheufele, Co-President of Chopard, Roberto Cicutto, President of the Istituto Luce Cinecitta, and Luigi Abete, Honorary President of Cinecitta Studios, unveiled the new façade of the famous Italian studios.

The renovations and the inauguration of the façade built in 1937 represent the first stage of a three-year partnership between Chopard, Cinecitta Studios and the Instituto Luce Cinecitta, who, together with other activities planned, aim to renovate the premises as well as rolls of cult films that were shot here. Cinecitta, "the dream factory" as this movie studio complex built south of Rome in 1937 is often referred to, has played a key role in the rise of Italian and world cinema. The restoration work initially required removing all the existing paint on the building which were altered and faded over years. The original frescoes were then recreated by artisans specialised in traditional restoration techniques, using the same pigments and ingredients as those used in the original painting when the façade was created.

After the ceremony, more than 200 guests gathered at a cocktail behind the façade. This was followed by a exclusive dinner in the stage representing Ancient Rome in an atmosphere reminiscent of the mythical movies Cleopatra and Ben Hur.
The guests, including Art Director and three-time Oscar winner Dante Ferretti and his wife Francesca Lo Schiavo, International Rome Film Festival Director Marco Muller, Princess Isabella Borromeo, Italian actress Ornella Mutti, film producer Marina Cicogna, actor Riccardo Scamarcio, Luisa Ranieri godmother of the most recent edition of the Venice Biennial, film producer Ginevra Elkann and film director Michele Placido were given the opportunity of admiring a sumptuous show highlighting the Haute Joaillerie creations from the Red Carpet collection, for which Caroline Scheufele draws inspiration from actresses and red carpets from all over the world.

  • Chopard - Chronometrie Ferdinand Berthoud SA

Through this project that he particularly cherishes, Chopard co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele intends to bring back to life the memory of Ferdinand Berthoud and restore this substantial watchmaking legacy to its rightful status. Positioned at the very peak of the collections within the Chopard group, La Chronometrie Ferdinand Berthoud will be dedicated to offering exceptional timepieces in highly exclusive production runs. The result of lengthy and careful consideration, this new horological activity began to take shape seven years ago, as Karl-Friedrich Scheufele explains: "In acquiring La Chronometrie Ferdinand Berthoud in 2006, I wanted to be sure that one day a watch bearing this name would be worthy of the great master horologist who inspired it".

Born in 1727 in Plancemont, in the Val-de-Travers (Switzerland), barely five kilometres from the current Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier, Ferdinand Berthoud was officially awarded the title of master clockmaker in Paris in 1753. An exceptional horologist who was at once highly cultivated, refined and intellectually gifted, Ferdinand Berthoud left behind an outstandingly vast body of work encompassing the fields of marine chronometers, decorative clocks and watches, specialised tools, scientific measurement instruments, as well as publications. The latter include dozens of specialised books and treatises representing 4,000 pages and 120 engraved plates.

Ferdinand Berthoud's career was also truly exceptional, as indeed were each of the periods of history he lived through - from the Age of Enlightenment to the Empire, including surviving the French Revolution. His brilliance was duly acknowledged by his contemporaries. This recognition led to him being elected to the Institut de France, and also commissioned "Horologist mechanic by appointment to the King and the Navy" during the reigns of Louis XV and Louis XVI, as well as subsequently under the Empire. In 1804, Napoleon conferred on him the title of Knight of the Legion of Honour. Much of his work is indeed as timely and relevant today as ever.
By way of reminder, Chopard is already bly established in Fleurier, a town that has been beating to the tune of watchmaking for several centuries and which currently hosts Chopard Manufacture, the entity responsible for producing the L.U.C Fine Watchmaking movements; Fleurier Ebauches SA, which handles the production of Chopard mechanical movements; the Chopard Forum located in a 17th century mansion serving as a hospitality centre; and the L.U.CEUM, located within the Chopard Manufacture itself and which regroups authentic horological masterpieces including an exceptional collection of timepieces by the famous Ferdinand Berthoud.
Details relating to the launch of La Chronometrie Ferdinand Berthoud SA will be unveiled by the summer of 2014.devoiles d'ici l'ete 2014.

  • Chopard - Montres Haute Joaillerie

Chopard has made a speciality of creating jewellery watches. Who could be more suited to combining the best of Fine Watchmaking and Haute Joaillerie within one and the same creation than Chopard, uniting the full range of watchmaking and jewellery-making skills within its workshops.
Since entering the selective world of Haute Joaillerie, Chopard has constantly surprised observers by its creativity and its ability to push the frontiers of technical feasibility. Over the years, the Geneva-based company has earned a premier position within this elite circle in which inventiveness and expertise of gem-setting artisans plays a crucial role. One of the results is the emergence of jewellery watches with refined designs, showcasing the finest precious stones such as diamonds, rubies and emeralds in a broad variety of cuts and shades of colour. This year, two daring yet exquisitely delicate models are being introduced.
The Haute Joaillerie Watch is an ode to the talent of the master gem-setters. Its snailed-motif dial is adorned with a carpet of brilliant-cut diamonds in subtly graded sizes while discreet and slender hands dance across the centre, as if to remind admirers that over and above its assumed role as a beautiful piece of jewellery, the mission of the Haute Joaillerie Watch is to mark the passing of time.
The equally precious new Haute Joaillerie Xtravaganza watch is a luminous and cheerful model that sparkles brightly on the wrist, secured by delicate rose gold loops to a black satin strap. Its generous brilliant-pave rose gold dial highlights the beauty of the diamonds which appear to have been randomly sprinkled according to the gemsetter's aesthetic preference… creating an asymmetrical look that lends a playfully relaxed touch liable to prove quite simply irresistible.

  • Chopard - L.U.C Lunar Big Date

Nestling within its 18-carat rose gold case, the new L.U.C Lunar Big Date exudes a poetic touch that will captivate the most seasoned connoisseurs. A horological complication in its own right, the moon phase attains such high accuracy that the difference between the actual lunar cycle and the indication of the timepiece amounts to just one day every 122 years. This exceptional model is available in a limited edition of just 500.
What could be more inspiring than to stay in permanent touch with the Moon? With its portion of the night sky visible on the dial, the new L.U.C Lunar Big Date is a vivid reminder of the enduring ties between our time and the stars. The moon phase is associated here with the central hour and minute hands, a large date display at 12 o'clock and a small seconds indication between 4 and 5 o'clock. The proprietary self-winding L.U.C Calibre 96 LD is housed with a generous 42 mm case in 18-carat rose gold framing a silvered guilloche dial elegantly studded with Arabic numerals.
The vision of the Moon seen from Earth changes in time with its rotation: its visible side may be completely lit up by the Sun (full Moon), entirely plunged into the dark (new Moon) or only partially illuminated (various moon phases). The interval between two identical moon phases - called a month or a synodical revolution - is equivalent to 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 2.8 seconds.
Achieving such accuracy in a wristwatch is an extremely complex feat to which Chopard Manufacture has risen with significant talent. The L.U.C Lunar Big Date is thus endowed with an extremely precise device in which the wheel driving the moon-bearing disc comprises 135 teeth. The indication has such precision that the discrepancy between the mechanism and the real lunar cycle amounts to just one day in 122 years. The various moon phases are visible for both Northern and Southern hemispheres through a particularly large aperture ensuring easy readability. In addition, the Northern part of the disc features the Big Dipper constellation, while the Southern part displays the Southern Cross.
Two stacked co-axial barrels ensures a 65-hour supply of energy to the movement with its balance oscillating at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Chronometer-certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), the movement is visible through the exhibition case-back. Fitted with a brown or black hand-sewn alligator leather strap complete with folding clasp, the L.U.C Lunar Big Date is issued in a limited, numbered series of 500, for its most discerning admirers.
