Piaget - Philippe Leopold-Metzger
Philippe Leopold-Metzger, who has dual French and Swiss nationality, was born in 1954 in the United States (New York), where he went to school and began his career. He graduated with an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management in Chicago and became product manager for American Cyanamid in 1979. Two years later he joined the Cartier-Vendôme-Richemont family, where he remains to this day.
Philippe Leopold-Metzger held a number of positions with Cartier: product manager for pens and lighters, head of distribution in the United Kingdom, president of Cartier Canada, CEO of Cartier Great Britain and CEO of Cartier Asia Pacific. Philippe Leopold-Metzger joined Piaget for the first time in 1992, and remained there until 1996. As the company's number two he was in charge of sales, retail, development and marketing, and was instrumental in setting up the first own-brand boutiques. On returning to the company in December 1999 he was appointed chief executive of Piaget SA.
Under his leadership the brand was substantially modernised, and pursued its development along the twin axes of fine watchmaking and jewellery. Since November 2012 Philippe Leopold-Metzger has also been a member of Richemont's Group Management Committee.
