I bought this Maurice Lacroix Miros Date Black Dial Stainless Steel Men's MI1018-SS002331 watch as a birthday gift for my husband. He was so surprised and shocked, thinking I spent at least double what I actually paid. When I told him what it actually cost, he couldn't believe it. He loves it, and has gotten a lot of compliments on it. Terrific value!

Timeless design and first-class handiwork characterize the quality of the Swiss watchmaker's art: this is proven by the new timepieces in pink gold or steel in the Les Classiques Tradition collection, a subcollection of the Classiques models that have already been established for many years.

Their sober, compelling appearance manifests respect for the centuries-old tradition of craftsmanship. Their restrained elegance, highlighted in particular by the slim case and simple beauty of the dial, emphasizes the quality that these models display on their wearers' wrists.
This model is available in a steel case with a choice of two different dials, in a 38 mm men's version and a somewhat smaller one, of 28 mm, for ladies. The model with the (18 Kt) gold case also comes with two dial variants and a men's or ladies' version for each one. The delicate hours, minutes and seconds hands in this classically elegant setting, plated with rhodium or pink gold, concentrate on the essential: the time. The only additional feature is the understated date display at 6 o'clock.

Then there is the automatic caliber ML 155/ ML 132 (men's / ladies' models), with its precision and its slim case, tokens of reliability and classical and modern styling in equal measure, which can be examined in detail, thanks to its domed sapphire crystal case back. The watch world has been talking about it for a while, and glimpses seen on various wrists at GTE in January made it clear that collectors would soon be graced with a new line of watches. While their maker is familiar to collectors, the look and feel of these new masterpieces will not be.
Gone are the astronomical developments that sealed Martin Braun's reputation as an innovative movement designer. It should come as no surprise that Braun's new horological offerings will include unprecedented technical elements, particularly in the debut timepiece that will be the star of the show at Baselworld. This perpetual calendar adds a new twist to an old theme. Its manually wound movement featuring an integrated perpetual calendar (not a module) holds power for six full days, and its clearly legible large date is unusually positioned. The entirety of the design harmonizes well with the new movement—so well in fact that the waiting watch world may be well inclined to forget its need for back-to-basic, retro-styled looks that the major brands are currently pushing.

Braun's new marque—in addition to its alter ego, movement manufacturer MHO—was founded with the financial backing of Swiss entrepreneur Antoine Meier. Soon thereafter Braun, who says, "We aim to go beyond existing boundaries and to give unconventional ideas a chance," hired an experienced industry executive to run the new venture.
Bruno Jufer, previously employed with Maurice Lacroix, Jaquet Droz, and Zenith, was most recently a member of Carl F. Bucherer's executive management. He describes his new place of employment as "a benchmark for innovative technology in movement construction and unique watch design." These are no light comments coming from a man of his experience, with Braun quickly adding that Antoine Martin—a name that is easily pronounced in every language and chosen to represent its two founding visionaries—was born under Jufer's professional tutelage.

Founded and directed by Efim Khankin, Universal Watch Repair in Birmingham, Michigan, is a true family affair. Efim's wife Luda heads up the financial department, while sons Boris and Leonid are each in charge of important aspects of the company: Boris primarily heads the technical service department, while Leonid has the Herculean task of being the driving force behind the Ernst Benz Swiss watch brand that the Khankins acquired in 2005. "Ernst Benz is not like a job for me," Leonid says with a great big smile. "It's like a dream come true."

From its beginnings with six customers in the 1970s, Universal Watch Repair now proudly counts more than 3,000 accounts for the restoration and repair of timekeeping treasures, not including the twenty-two manufacturers for which it is the official U.S. service center such as Graham, Arnold & Son, Perrelet and Maurice Lacroix. These statistics speak for themselves: the Khankin family clearly understands giving good service. Universal Watch Repair's workshop can truly repair any mechanical or quartz pocket or wristwatch, whether modern or vintage. If a part needs replacing, it will be found—or one of the sixteen experienced watchmakers at home in the sunny Birmingham workshop will make it.

In late 2009, Universal Watch Repair moved into luxurious purpose-built premises comprising 5,000 square feet in Birmingham, an affluent suburb just about as old Detroit itself. It now shares its space with the first North American Ernst Benz boutique and proudly displays every Ernst Benz model currently available—a watch and a brand that has become a phenomenon not only in Detroit, or even the U.S. Inauguration of the space took place on August 2 with approximately 150 guests including professional baseball player and Detroit Tiger Brennan Boesch, mayor of Birmingham Rackeline Hoff, and international watch journalist (and Worldtempus editor) Elizabeth Doerr, who signed copies of the recently released Twelve Faces of Time for guests.

Universal Watch Repair's sixteen watchmakers sit at standard watchmaking benches located right next to large glass windows providing natural light to the busy workshop. The watchmakers are of various nationalities, including American. Most of them have been trained either at well-known watchmaking schools or at Metro Detroit's own Warren Consolidated School's horology program, the only high-school watchmaking program in North America and one of only ten watchmaking schools in the U.S.
