  • IWC Schaffhausen - VIP Gala Dinner in London

To celebrate the launch of their three-year partnership with the BFI (British Film Institute) and BFI London Film Festival in partnership with American Express®, IWC Schaffhausen hosted a star-studded red carpet event in honour of the BFI in London. With events having already taken place across the globe in celebration of IWC's other film festival partnerships, including Tribeca, Beijing and Zurich, it is clear that the brand's commitment to the world of filmmaking is set to continue.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the "Honorary Award in Recognition for Outstanding Contribution to Comedy" to British comic legends Julie Walters and
Stephen Fry. Georges Kern, IWC CEO presented Julie and Stephen with an IWC Portofino Midsize Automatic and a Portofino Chronograph, respectively, both in red gold and featuring a bespoke engraving on the back of the case.

The evening began with a cocktail reception where guests were treated to an exclusive viewing of "Timeless Portofino", Peter Lindbergh's exhibition to mark the launch of the Portofino Midsize collection.

  • IWC - Watchmaking class for Nico Rosberg

Nico Rosberg may have made it to the top in motor racing's supreme discipline, but has he got the manual skills it takes to be a watchmaker? And how does a MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team driver, whose main preoccupation is slicing thousandths of a second off his lap times, feel about time in a more general sense? Under the watchful eye of a master watchmaker from IWC Schaffhausen, Nico Rosberg and a group of journalists went straight to the heart of a pocket watch. Dressed in white coats and equipped with loupes and tweezers, they carefully assembled a wheel train, barrel and barrel bridge, and crown wheel. Well versed as he is in technical matters, Rosberg made a good impression at the watchmaker's bench. Concentrated and focused throughout, he finally succeeded in bringing his movement to life.

    At Home The World Over
The exclusive watchmaking class was held as part of a media day at The Charles Hotel in Munich, where IWC Schaffhausen, Official Engineering Partner of the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team since January 2013, received its brand ambassador Nico Rosberg. Selected journalists were given a deeper insight into the partnership between two companies that have dedicated themselves entirely to precision technology and top-flight engineering. Over lunch, the popular three-time Grand Prix victor provided a first-hand account of his everyday life as a FORMULA ONE driver who is in the spotlight 20 times a year at racing circuits all over the world.

    High Technology And Craftsmanship
As a young man, Nico Rosberg received an IWC watch from his father and has felt close ties with the luxury watch brand ever since. "For me, IWC watches combine not only complex technology and top-class performance but also passion and emotions," said Rosberg during a podium discussion with IWC CEO Georges Kern, explaining the factors common to watchmaking and motor racing. "It's a great honour for us to have Nico as our brand ambassador," added Georges Kern. "He's an outstanding individual with a dynamic personality, but he also has qualities such as team spirit, a yearning for perfection and progress, all coupled with the desire to give of his very best. These are values we also cherish at IWC Schaffhausen." The cooperation between the Swiss watch manufacturer and MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS is based on a mutual commitment to using their pioneering spirit and expertise to sound out the limits of mechanics. The result of this is the new Ingenieur watch collection from IWC, which, with its technical innovations and the use of materials typically found in motor racing, such as carbon fibre, ceramic and titanium aluminide, typifies the quest of both companies for perfection at the very highest level.

  • IWC - First boutique on a cruise ship

This unique on-the-water boutique is the first one to launch globally for IWC and has set sail in Asia, servicing cruises out of Singapore and Shanghai, China. "Mariner of the Seas" forms part of the second generation of Voyager- class vessels focusing on relaxing getaways with luxurious accommodations and fine cuisine. Their unparalleled understanding of international travellers and luxury brands enables staff to keep pace with passengers' needs and aspirations, making for a perfect premier shopping destin- ation.

    Classic elegance

The boutique fully embodies IWC's well-known philosophy associated with engineering and innovation. Dark and white wood, glass, leather and polished stainless steel are a few of the usual components seen throughout the boutique. Combined together these elements intricately underline the brand's technical aspirations and create an atmos- phere that is both elegant and inviting.

    Exciting milestone

"We are pleased to announce the first IWC boutique to launch on a cruise ship and we look forward to welcoming guests from around the globe to experience this exciting milestone along with IWC," says IWC CEO Georges Kern. The design concept of the new, approximately 60-square-metre boutique offers all six IWC watch fam- ilies along with the promise of an exceptionally high quality of service that will guarantee an extraordinary shopping experience for all guests.

  • IWC - The time has come

The new store underscores the importance of the domestic market to the renowned watch manufacturer, and provides its fabulous timepieces with a fitting home in a top-class location.
"Männer, eure Zeit wird kommen." In English: "Men, your time will come." For weeks, these evocative words have adorned the fence around the renovation site at Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse 61 and given a predominantly male clientele something to look forward to. But now that time has come, and the new IWC boutique is about to open its doors. Visitors are invited to discover the fascinating worlds that surround the six watch families from IWC together with the world of watchmaking and the fascination of Haute Horlogerie. "Hardly anyone visits Zurich without coming to Bahnhofstrasse," says Linus Fuchs, IWC Managing Director Switzerland. "We are delighted that we finally have the opportunity to present our philosophy and our mechanical masterpieces in a setting as exclusive as this one." Visitors can look forward to viewing not only an extensive collection but also the very special models that are available only from IWC's own boutiques.

    Understated luxury
With a sales area of around 60 square metres at their disposal, IWC's own interior designers have created an atmosphere that embodies the watches' clear-cut design and the philosophy of engineering and innovation associated with the IWC brand. Dark wood, glass, chrome, leather and polished aluminium underline the brand's technical aspirations and, combined together, create an atmosphere that is both elegant and inviting. "For the first time in Switzerland we've implemented the new boutique design with a new lounge area," explains Linus Fuchs. The prestigious premises, built in 1909, provide a fitting, tradition-steeped setting for IWC's watch families - the Pilot's Watches, Portuguese, Ingenieur, Aquatimer, Da Vinci and Portofino -, whose roots likewise go way back into the 20th century.

    New generation of display windows

IWC Schaffhausen's new display window concept underlines the importance of the themed worlds that go hand in hand with its watch families. These include the history of aviation, on which the Pilot's Watches are founded, the Aquatimer diver's watch family, which takes us on a fascinating voyage to the depths of the world's oceans, and the Da Vinci collection, a tribute to the eponymous universal genius of the Italian Renaissance. The Ingenieur models encapsulate advanced technology and engineering, while the picturesque little town of Portofino, which acted as magnet to the biggest names in show business in the 1950s and 1960s, provides the name for another much-loved watch family. But taking pride of place in the first window displays at Bahnhofstrasse 61 is the Pilot's Watch line, which was completely revised this year and extended to include the five models of the TOP GUN collection. A variety of larger-than-life animated cockpit instruments and a simulated horizon provide a technically inspired backdrop to the popular Pilot's Watches. Perfectly timed to coincide with the year of the Pilot's Watches, IWC's Zurich boutique is definitely ready for take-off.

  • IWC - Volvo Ocean Race in Miami

The US Puma Ocean Racing team arrived in Miami to a rapturous reception after winning the sixth stage of the Volvo Ocean Race and taking its second straight leg victory. The team also won its third 24-hour Speed Record Challenge - an award sponsored by Volvo Ocean Race's Official Timekeeper, IWC Schaffhausen, and presented to the team that sails the furthest distance within a 24-hour period during each leg. IWC has established a b identity for itself in the USA and used the occasion to treat the winner of its Money Can't Buy Experience to unforgettable days of sailing around the Miami harbor.

The six teams in the Volvo Ocean Race have three more legs in front of them before they arrive at the finish in Galway, Ireland, in July. But with two-thirds of the race behind them, the situation as they set out to cross the Atlantic could hardly be more enthralling. Only a few points separate the first four vessels, with Telefónica leading the way on 164, followed by Groupama, Camper, and Puma. This means that any of them is still in with a realistic chance of taking the overall prize. The IWC-sponsored Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing team was awarded ten points for fifth place, taking its overall tally to 68. Skipper Ian Walker admitted that a lack of raw boat speed had made it difficult for Abu Dhabi to be competitive, but said that none of the crew had let their heads drop at any point during the leg. The Sanya team was forced to pull out of this leg entirely and will rejoin the fleet for the In-Port Race in Miami.

Priceless Moments with IWC's Money Can't Buy Experience

The USA is an exciting market for IWC Schaffhausen. Having an American founder, Florentine Ariosto Jones, the company established a solid presence in the US market, and marked its return to its roots with the grand opening of a Flagship Boutique in New York City. Only two weeks after the star-studded event, IWC Schaffhausen used the opportunity of the stop-over in Miami for a Money Can't Buy Experience.

IWC CEO Georges Kern explained: "As Official Timekeeper of the Volvo Ocean Race and Team Sponsor of Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, we have a unique opportunity to give the winner behindthe- scenes access to one of the world's greatest  sporting events." Dental technician Humphrey Liu of Toronto tried his luck in the Money Can't Buy Experience competition on the IWC website and emerged as the winner from among thousands of participants. As part of his prize, he enjoyed a tour of the Azzam, the vessel manned by Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, and a get-together with the crew. Liu, whose only previous experience of sailing was aboard a dinghy on Lake Ontario, had his first shot at serious hands-on yachting. The lucky winner was also presented with a Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph Edition "Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012" in titanium, when he revealed some interesting news: "In 10 years I plan to sail around the world with my wife Sarah and my two sons", so it is just as well that he is getting the practice in now.

    IWC 24-hour Speed Record Challenge

As Official Timekeeper of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012, IWC sponsors the 24-hour Speed Record Challenge. The team that covers the greatest distance within a period of 24 hours in each leg is awarded the much-coveted trophy.

Puma had cause for double celebrations following their victorious arrival in Miami and the news that their 24-hour run of 511 nautical miles had scooped the IWC Schaffhausen Speed Record Challenge trophy for the sixth leg. They also won the prize in the third leg for a run of 358 miles and in the fourth leg, when they covered 528 miles. President of IWC North America Gianfranco D'Attis awarded the trophy to the crew at a prize-giving ceremony. The overall fastest time over the entire 8 months of the race will land each of the 11 members of the winning crew a Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph Edition "Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012." IWC Schaffhausen will present the watches to the winning crew at the end of the race in Galway, Ireland. After the weekend ahead, featuring the Pro-Am and In-Port Race, the six teams will set sail on Sunday for the seventh leg. The route takes them 3,590 nautical miles to the Portuguese capital Lisbon, where they are expected on May 31, 2012. Follow the progress of the Volvo Ocean Race at: www.volvooceanrace.com

  • IWC - Portuguese Automatic Edition Laureus Sport

Thanks to the support of IWC and the commitment of the Foundation, the Laureus blue on the dial of the Portuguese Automatic is now the colour of hope for underprivileged children throughout the world.

Do some good - and enjoy it. The outstanding work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation in helping children from socially disadvantaged backgrounds inspired the Schaffhausen company once again to put one of its classic watches at the service of a good cause. This is now the fourth time that IWC Schaffhausen has supported the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation with a special edition. Following on from the Portuguese Chrono-Automatic in 2006, the Pilot's Watch Chrono-Automatic in 2007 and the Da Vinci Chronograph in 2008, the model that carries on the range's support for sport in 2009 is the Portuguese Automatic, made of stainless steel with a dial in unmistakable Laureus blue and limited to 1,000 watches.

In keeping with a worthy tradition, IWC Schaffhausen holds a children's painting competition within the projects supported by Laureus throughout the world. The winning design is engraved on a medallion and inset into the back of the case of the special edition model. This year, the jury's choice was a drawing by 12-year-old K.D. Sriyan Chamod Dilshan from Sri Lanka, who is involved in the Laureus project Seenigama Sports. He illustrated the theme of "Team spirit" with a picture of four young people holding hands in a circle. The engraving is a reminder that part of the proceeds from sales of the watch will go towards projects for underprivileged children in troubled areas of the world.

IWC Schaffhausen is a Global Partner and world representative of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. This is a charitable Foundation that supports over 65 projects throughout the world which have so far helped more than 750,000 children and young people who have fallen victim to poverty, homelessness, war, violence, discrimination, drug addiction, racism and HIV/ Aids. The Laureus World Sports Academy is an association of sports legends who together hold more than 100 Olympic medals, 100 world championship titles and 200 world records. With its support, and using the universal language of sport, these children and young people are offered an escape from the vicious circle of drugs, poverty and violence. In this capacity, Laureus operates in the slums of Uganda, the South Bronx of New York and the Indian city of Mumbai, among other places.

As well as the watch, IWC Schaffhausen has also brought out a unique illustrated book, "Let the Children Play", in order to attract more attention to the considerable social involvement of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Anyone who buys the Portuguese Automatic Edition Laureus Sport for Good Foundation will get a copy of the book, which shows 10 of the more than 65 projects supported by the Foundation to help underprivileged children. Part of the proceeds from sales of the watch will go to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation to help the National Laureus Foundations in Argentina, Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa, the USA and Switzerland.
For its fourth watch in aid of a good cause, IWC has chosen an absolute winner from among it functional and distinctive timepieces: the Portuguese Automatic with a mechanical IWC-manufactured 51011-calibre movement and a Pellaton winding mechanism that provides a power reserve of seven days. It has a large-format date, a small seconds hand and an indicator showing the remaining power reserve. The beautifully balanced dial is a model of the clarity and simplicity of design which marked the first Portuguese watches exactly 70 years ago.
