  • Hamilton - The King gets a new watch

The history of Hamilton Watch and Elvis Presley goes all the way back to 1961, when the King of Rock'n'Roll wore the ground-breaking Ventura in the movie "Blue Hawaii." Elvis wore his own Ventura throughout his life and the Ventura became known as "the Elvis watch."
The original Ventura, designed by then-outside industrial designer Richard Arbib, has been a best-seller for the brand since its introduction in 1957. In addition to "Blue Hawaii," the Ventura featured heavily in the "Men in Black" trilogy, looking both vintage and futuristic.

Redesigning an icon can be a huge risk for a brand, as the new design runs the risk of alienating established lovers of the watch and failing to gain traction with new buyers. Hamilton has revisited and modernized the Ventura design several times, in various sizes, while still keeping the original in its collection, something that not many companies have been able to do successfully. In fact, I can't think of another watch from the 1950s that is still for sale in its original design, making the Ventura that much more special.
This year, Hamilton introduced another all-new version of the Ventura, officially called the Ventura Elvis 80.

    80 for 80
The Ventura Elvis 80, unveiled in January of this year, is designed to commemorate what would have been Elvis's 80th birthday. In a bit of serious serendipity, the Ventura Elvis 80 Auto uses the new H-10 movement, which offers a remarkable 80 hours of power reserve. Most mechanical watches offer between 42 and 46 hours of power reserve, not enough to get through the weekend. The 80 hours that the H-10 offers means you can take off the Ventura Elvis 80 on Friday evening, put it on your nightstand and it will be still be running when you put it back on your wrist on Monday morning.

The watch is so attractive, however, why would anyone want to take it off?

The Ventura Elvis 80 is also available in a quartz version. Both the auto and the quartz versions are in 42.5 x 44.6mm steel cases, and the surfaces are alternately brushed and polished. The iconic triangular shape, the unique sloped sapphire crystal covering the rounded dial, the orange second hand and a choice of black rubber or leather strap rounds out the design details.

"Working on the new Ventura Elvis 80 was about the reinterpretation of an icon, the first electric watch from 1957, which despite its 50 years, remains a futuristic model!" says Sylvain Dolla, president, Hamilton Watch. "To keep its revolutionary character, the triangular shape has been preserved. The sloped sapphire crystal and a curved dial give the new Ventura Elvis 80 a very contemporary and technical design. Another objective was the perfect integration of leather, rubber or metal bracelets which was of course a design challenge for this unique triangular shape."

    Affordable Sophistication
Like all of Hamilton's watches, the Ventura Elvis 80 is very reasonably priced - the Auto version is $1,495/1425 chf/1,295 EURO, while the quartz version is $1,045/995 chf/945 EURO.

  • Hamilton - Jazzmaster Lady

Both classical and classy in appearance, the new Jazzmaster watches offer the contemporary woman the choice of an automatic or quartz movement. Feminine charm comes in the shape of teardrop indexes, sculptured nickeled hands integrating white Super-LumiNova® and a delicate, shimmering sunray pattern on the dial.

These duo of watches comes in a 30 mm stainless steel case. Both are fitted with a midnight blue strap or a white leather strap easily accessed thanks to the easy click feature.

  • Hamilton - Khaki Takeoff Auto Chrono

Hamilton is taking its close cooperation with leading air squadrons and aerobatic pilot Nicolas Ivanoff to new heights with the Khaki Takeoff Auto Chrono Limited Edition.. Its design code gravitates to the inspiration of the aircraft dashboard and construction. This dynamic pilots' watch is detachable and has an alternative home in a presentation box that makes aviation references with texts such as "No Step" and "Pull to Open". Synchronized with the Hamilton brand's b aviation heritage, dating back to 1919, the Khaki Takeoff Auto Chrono Limited Edition combines high-tech modernity with inspiration from the Hamilton elapsed time clock produced during World War II and then considered the most complicated aircraft clock. This timepiece is limited to 1999 pieces.

True to its cockpit instrument inspiration, the contemporary pilots' watch has a bi-directional turning flange, driven by the bezel, which has the capacity to record a countdown. In the absence of a propeller, the theme of rotation continues by the turning action required to unlock the case from its part-time home within the wristwatch. Meticulous attention to detail emits a clear signal via the watch's unique wooden storage case. Visible aluminum rivets and plates, as seen on aircrafts, punctuate its surface, while four complementary "instruments" form an authentic dashboard effect around the detached Khaki Takeoff Auto Chrono Limited Edition.

The Hamilton H-31 movement in the Khaki Takeoff Auto Chrono Limited Edition has 60 hours of power reserve for extended operation airborne or otherwise. Accurately reflecting the appearance of its World War II ancestor, the color scheme of today's timepiece is predominantly black with easily visible yellow markings. The hands are a re-interpretation of the classical hands of traditional pilots' watches. A yellow, plane-shaped pointer on the chronograph second hand provides another themed styling signature. Uniting the messages of pioneering aviation and the demands of the 21st century ground and sky is a fine black leather strap with a comfortable, structured rubber lining.

  • Summer watches - 6 colourful men's watches for the summer

When taking colour as your sole point of reference, you can run the entire gamut of watches, from in-your-face fluorescence to the subtle gradient of richer colours on the dial of a more classic piece and all points in between. Take a look at the photo gallery above to see what we mean.

A fluorescent yellow-green has become the signature colour of HYT watches after the company started out showing the hours on its watches by the movement of a liquid in this colour. In the latest limited-edition H1 model, the same colour grabs the attention on the case of the "Azo project", named after the type of polyepoxide used in the manufacture of the case.

A simple change of strap colour can make a big difference to a watch, as Bell & Ross demonstrates with the bright orange canvas strap on its limited edition BR 03-94 Carbon Orange model. Orange is the colour reserved for essential information in a plane's cockpit and thus fits perfectly with the brand's aviation associations.

Hamilton, on the other hand, goes for a tone-on-tone extension of the blue background and red accents on the dial of its Pan Europ model with a matching stripy textile strap. The result is a watch that looks as if it was made for the summer. Blue is also the logical colour for the new Abyss 44mm chronograph by Hysek, especially when teamed up with a matching blue leather strap. Swivelling lugs on the lightweight titanium ensure that it adapts perfectly to the contours of your wrist.

On its Marine "Deck Chronometer", L. Leroy opts for brown tones reminiscent of the teak found on vessels when the company used to produce marine chronometers for over thirty different naval forces. H. Moser & Cie. takes things a step further with its new signature smoked red-gold dial on the Venturer Small Seconds, adding a pleasing new hue to the palette of dial colours.

  • Hamilton - Time Player

    Revue FH - 29 April 2010

This unique watch has discovered its own way of putting the past, present and future on the same map. Its design structure is inspired by the geographic coordinates system based on lines of latitude and longitude. Implementation of its unusual timekeeping concept unites finger-operated timekeeping in four up-to-the-minute time zones with zany design belonging to the future. In this watch Hamilton provocatively merges nostalgia for its American roots with the latest Swiss technology to offer a glimpse of tomorrow. This timepiece lets the fingers do the walking, leaving the mind free to exercise its memory and imagination.

Hamilton took inspiration for the Time Player from a design the company originally created for a clock in the Stanley Kubrick movie, 2001: Space Odyssey and brought it back to earth. For centuries, man believed that the earth's surface was flat. Hamilton playfully revisits this idea with the Time Player watch, in a design that is resolutely contemporary and inspired by a society constantly on the move, taking change in its stride. A totally flat 48 mm by 42 mm titanium case is split into nine squares, eight filled with movable counters and one left empty like a sliding puzzle. These counters, separated by lines symbolizing those of latitude and longitude, enable the wearer to set and measure time in the current location, plus three others. A Hamilton logo marks the here and now, while the additional three places are identified by color-coded printed names of the dynamic metropoles, Dubai, New York and Tokyo to prove that the brand is always on the move. The remaining four counters are all individual watch dials, in colors to match the corresponding location, so that they can dedicate their energy to tracking the passage of time in the defined destination.

To set the time in a desired time zone the wearer simply moves the corresponding miniature watch to the central square and adjusts via a crown. Once this is done, all of the counters can be moved around again at will. Two easy to grip crowns are positioned on each of the two sides of the case where the attachment joins. The thick black rubber strap also picks up the theme of right angles with corresponding indents and a neat folding buckle.
These unique watches are limited edition and exclusively available on www.hamilton- lab.com. The interested can subscribe on the online platform. The watch will be shipped to the closest retailer.
