  • Audemars Piguet - A feminine exception

Launched exactly 20 years ago, the watch is an exception in the field of ladies' watches. In addition to its original aesthetic, a generous oval shape that beautifully molds the curves of the wrist, it is a cleverly structured technical watch. To celebrate its anniversary, it welcomes a new hand-wound movement specifically developed for it that adopts the shape of the case and reveals its beating heart, the balance-wheel through a left-hand aperture in the collection's signature offset display.
The Millenary 2015 comes in three versions: two adorned with 116 diamonds on the bezel and lugs (white or pink gold) and one very precious one set with 438 diamonds on the case (white gold) and 136 on the main dial.

  • Audemars Piguet - New campaign Know-how and roots

    Revue FH - 16 February 2012

The campaign, created by the Lowe Superculture in London, will feature the work of renowned still life photographer, Richard Foster, and the acclaimed landscape photographer, Dan Holdsworth. It will showcase a powerful new brand thought: «To break the rules, you must first master them».
«This is more than just an advertising headline, it expresses the essence of the Audemars Piguet brand philosophy», commented Philippe Merk, CEO of the brand. «We are proud of our heritage of fine watchmaking, and the craft skills which have been handed down from generation to generation since 1875. Over the years we have demonstrated our mastery of the art of haute horology and yet Audemars Piguet has also always been a beacon of innovation and creativity that dares to break new grounds. While the watches that we make are expressions of our respect for the traditions of hand crafted timepieces and while we celebrate the fact that we are the last independent brand, among the few major Swiss brands, still in the hands of the descendants of the original founding families, we are also a modern, progressive company famous for our innovations in technology, the daring use of new materials and bold designs».

The new campaign is divided into two main themes. The first captures the artistry and mastery that goes into every single Audemars Piguet timepiece, showcasing the highlights of the 2012 collection. The watches were shot by Richard Foster and each execution shows extreme close-up elements of the watch components together with an explanation of how the individual piece demonstrates the brand truth of «To break the rules, you must first master them».
The second part of the campaign recalls the brand's provenance and history. In a break from traditional watch marketing, the advertising will feature stunning work by the English Photographic artist, Dan Holdsworth, who spent several weeks in the Vallee de Joux capturing the dramatic beauty and soul of this very special place.

In line with this, the Audemars Piguet logo has been subtlety refreshed and the long - running line «Le maître de l'horlogerie depuis 1875» has been replaced with the name of the village in the Vallee de Joux which has always been the home of Audemars Piguet - Le Brassus. «What is so compelling about Audemars Piguet is the combination of, on the one hand, history, tradition, authenticity and on the other, extraordinary modernity and progressive design. While other brands may like to be seen as heirlooms, Audemars Piguet is a progressive brand for the here and now, a brand to be worn by connoisseurs who respect the past but are making their own futures», said Audemars Piguet Chief Marketing Officer Tim Sayler. «We are very excited to be working with an outstanding photographic talent for this campaign. Richard Foster's images really capture the exceptional craft and beauty of our watches in striking detail. Dan Holdsworth's shot shows the «terroir» of Le Brassus and reveals the connection between the relationship of man and nature and man and timekeeping. The true story of how watchmaking began amongst the farmers of the valley and how the incredible complex movements made today are the ultimate expression of man's quest to unravel the mysteries of nature is what makes the story of Audemars Piguet so extraordinary».

The new campaign was launch in January with new models like the Millenary 4101 or the new Royal Oak model with 41mm diameter and will continue throughout the year with the 2012 novelties and other timeless pieces of the Audemars Piguet collection.

  • Audemars Piguet - Jules Audemars Extra-thin "Bolshoi"

After an extensive six-year renovation work, the world renowned Russian temple of dance and opera, the Bolshoi, has reopened its doors for the 236th season in its history with a performance of Sleeping Beauty. The role of the Sleeping Beauty leads ballet dancer Svetlana Zakharova and Audemars Piguet ambassadress.

On the occasion of the reopening of the old scene of the Bolshoi Theatre, the Manufacture from Le Brassus raised the curtain on a special Extra-Thin Jules Audemars series featuring an open-worked oscillator engraved with the facade of the famous building.

The Bolshoi Theatre, that crowning glory of Russian culture under every regime since its foundation in 1780, was threatening to collapse before the decision was taken, nearly six years ago, to do whatever it took to give this legendary venue back its sparkle. More than 3,000 workmen and artisans worked on the site effectively doubled the size of the theatre, as well as equipping it with ultramodern equipment. The acoustics were also reworked, going back to the original fundamentals which were perfect.

Thus, the Bolshoi once again looks like it did in 1856 when it was renovated after a fire. No detail has been overlooked .... Apart from consolidating the building, great care has been taken in decorating it - be it in the gold leaf covered stucco or the framing of mirrors, in the curtains in the Tsar's box, those in the boxes, or the stage curtain, which have been entirely hand-stitched with gold thread.

As dance holds a very special place in Russian culture, a legendary ballet has been chosen to celebrate the reopening of the venue. Svetlana Zakharova plays the starring role as the princess of the ballet, Sleeping Beauty. Accompanied by music composed by Tchaikovsky, her talent and grace dazzled some 1,700 privileged spectators who attended the show on Sunday, November 20th.

Over and above its role as patron, Audemars Piguet could not miss the reopening of the theatre. The special Jules Audemars "Bolshoi" series in pink or white gold with elegant anthracite dial perfectly expresses the brand's considerable know-how. Regarded by specialists as one of the most beautiful self-winding movements, the Calibre 2120 housed in these two models is part of a proud historical lineage that has forged the brand's considerable reputation. Its sapphire case-back also reveals the beauty of this extra-thin movement (barely 2.45 mm thick) in which the open- worked oscillator of the 2120 Calibre has been finely decorated with the famous theatre facade. Elegance and excellence blend to perfection in these Extra-Thin Jules Audemars "Bolshoi" models. The decision to produce 99 pieces (50 in pink gold and 49 in white gold), is no coincidence, since this number represents the number of years between the creation of the two Houses that have subsequently become prestigious institutions in their respective spheres: dance and opera for the Bolshoi theatre, founded in 1776 and Fine Watchmaking for the Manufacture Audemars Piguet, founded in 1875.

  • Audemars Piguet - The Manufacture des Forges opens its doors

    VIEW THE PHOTO GALLERY

In June 2007, Mrs Jasmine Audemars, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Audemars Piguet, and Mr. Georges-Henri Meylan, then CEO, laid the first stone of the new Manufacture des Forges in Le Brassus, the brand's historical home. This ceremony marked the start of work on this new production facility designed in accordance with the criteria of the new Swiss MINERGIE-ECO® label, implemented for the first time in the conception of an industrial building.
    .
The new Manufacture des Forges meets the MINERGIE-ECO® standards which are expressed through enhanced user comfort and energy savings within a healthy and environment-friendly construction. Materials that are either recycled or boast a low environmental impact have been used throughout: fibro-cement for the outer walls, eloxed aluminium for the window frames, non-toxic solvent-free floor coverings, FSC-certified wooden floors, water-based paints, etc.
A wood-fired heating plant that is neutral with respect to carbon emissions has been built near the site in order to ensure remote heating of the Audemars Piguet, and in due course of a hundred or so either buildings in the village. In parallel, a free-cooling system has been chosen for the premises. Entirely in tune with the typical weather conditions in the Vallee de Joux, this system uses outside air for cooling, thereby avoiding the need to use high-energy consuming air-conditioning.
Also driven by the same concern for its employees' comfort and well-being, Audemars Piguet applied the same precaution principle to the electrical and telecommunications equipment. All sources of magnetic fields were carefully controlled so as to avoid any waves that might potentially be detrimental to health.
The construction was also designed in such a way as to optimise the working areas while integrating a maximum of functional criteria. The production flow has therefore been organised by profession and by production stage.
At the end of 2008, thanks to the commitment of the contracted companies and their teams, the first workshops were installed within this pleasant setting featuring modern architectural lines, resolutely geared towards the quality of working conditions and meeting optimal environment and energy-saving standards.
The exterior landscaping contributes to ensuring the harmonious integration of the building within this residential area. The stream running through Le Brassus has been revitalised so as to run through its original bed.
In selecting the type of plants destined to enhance the site, clear preference was given to regional trees and flowers, such as the rosemary leaf willow that will help stabilise the banks of the stream. Within a few months, this greenery will have sprung up and spread out for all to admire.
In 2010, the former station will be torn down to make room for an open, welcoming and completely redesigned village entrance.
The Manufacture des Forges embodies the brand values of tradition, excellence and daring, associating concern for users' well-being with technological innovations and respect for the environment.
