Montblanc - Irish artist Stephen Craig at the SIHH
Exhibiting a unique art piece at SIHH in Geneva is already a tradition for Montblanc. After impressive installations by international artists Philippe Bradshaw, Stephan Huber, Lori Hersberger, John Armleder and Robert Wilson, in 2010 the Irish artist Stephen Craig will show his light installation 'Am Gipfel' at Montblanc's booth at SIHH.
The artwork with its wooden board, acrylic painting and electric bulbs is a typical work of Craig and shows the artist's interest in funfairs: "The fair is a metaphor for the city as a whole. What instantly appealed to me was the handcrafted, self-made aspect of many of the travelling stalls and rides, and the brightness of the colours." Since years Stephen Craig is inspired by the specific aesthetics of funfairs to create vibrantly coloured pictures and light installations. The installation 'Am Gipfel' from 2007 belongs to the Montblanc Cutting Edge Art Collection and is normally installed at the production department in Montblanc's Headquarters in Hamburg.
In 2002 Montblanc started to build its own corporate contemporary art collection. Meanwhile more that 150 artworks of internationally renowned artists are part of the collection and can be seen at Montblanc's International Headquarters in Hamburg, Germany. All these artworks are interpretations of the white Montblanc star and have been especially created for the Montblanc Cutting Edge Art Collection. A catalogue of selected artworks is available and the collection is open to the public by appointment.
Since the art collection is only one activity of Montblanc's international engagement in the arts, it is meant to be an inspiration for those who work for and with Montblanc and for those who are interested in the brand as well as in art. Taking time for things that really matter, like engaging oneself in art and culture, like visiting family and friends, or just reading a book or writing a letter by hand, is the real luxury in life and is part of Montblanc's philosophy.
