For Baselworld 2013, German high-end watchmaker Glashutte Original celebrates fine mechanical watches with the Senator Tourbillon.

The model places the Flying Tourbillon, developed by Glashutte watchmaker Alfred Helwig in 1920, within the elegant frame of a contemporary redesign of the Saxon manufactory’s classic Senator series.

The 42 mm case of this timepiece features a somewhat slimmer bezel than previous Senator models, allowing the bezel to serve as an elegant frame for the fine lacquered grey grained dial.

The dial visuals feature Roman numerals and a classic railroad chapter ring engraved in the surface which subsequently receives an elegant silver inlay.

The distinctive Panorama Date is presented in white on a dark ground beneath hour 12, and the ‘poire’ hands in white gold enhance the transcendent elegance of the design.

I ordered this Glashutte Original Senator Tourbillon (1-94-03-04-04-04) as a Christmas present for the guy who has everything. I was nervous but once I took a look at it in person, I was amazed. It is stunning in real life, the picture does little justice to it. It was a big hit, and he wears it everyday to work and out.. it fits well with every outfit. On the first day wearing it, he was complimented.

I got both watches in silver and gold tone. I needed to get one link professionally removed to fit my small wrist. I am glad that the Glashutte Original Senator watch now fits me; it's a little loose but the face still stays on top of my wrist. I've used it for a couple of days and it's comfortable considering the weight on it. I gave it a five star.

Suffer for style - I love Mr. Starcks design work. That said this Glashutte Original Senator Tourbillon (1-94-03-04-04-04) watch is hard to set with very small pin buttons in the back. Once the band wears out it will be tossed (how could you fix it?). The box it comes in is all hard plastic; if it comes loose from its ring there goes the watch face. But it sure looks great! Always gets compliments.
