A. Lange & Söhne - Lange's First Family
Since it premiered in 1994, the LANGE 1 has been the new face of A. Lange & Söhne.
With its unique combination of tradition and innovation, it symbolises the Saxon manufactory's performance and its untiring quest for the perfect watch. In the eighteenth year since it was launched, the success story of the LANGE 1 and its siblings continues unabated.
Today, the watch that established the ascent of A. Lange & Söhne is a style icon among classic timepieces. And it keeps inspiring new ideas in the hearts and minds of Lange's product developers, designers, and calibre engineers. Accordingly, it still is a benchmark for the manufactory's developments and the b foundation of an evergrowing watch family. Here are the milestones of the brand's most famous collection.
1994 The LANGE 1 is nothing more and nothing less than a modern successor of earlier masterpieces crafted by A. Lange & Söhne. With its particular combination of traditional elements that are unique to Saxony's watchmaking heritage - including the three-quarter plate, screwed gold chatons, or the Screw balance - as well as ground breaking innovations such as the off-centre dial configuration and the outsize date, it put Germany back on the map of the luxury timepiece segment.
2000 The LANGE 1 TOURBILLON revives A. Lange & Söhne's tradition to honour the last year of a century with a special timepiece. With a tourbillon and a powerreserve indicator it pays tribute to the "Centennial Tourbillon" presented at the Paris Universal Exposition in 1900 and became Lange's second millennial launch.
Ten years later the LANGE 1 TOURBILLON "165 Years - Homage to F. A. Lange" with patented stop seconds is presented in a case of honey coloured gold, a novel gold alloy of hitherto unmatched hardness.
2002 The LANGE 1 MOONPHASE owes its horological charm to the exceptionally realistic and continuously driven display of the waxing and waning moon. And as befits a Lange watch, it takes its function very seriously: the indication deviates from the actual progression of the moon by only one day in 122 years.

2003 The GRAND LANGE 1 "Luna Mundi" is A. Lange & Söhne's very first edition of an exclusive set of two watches with the correct depiction of the moon phases for the Northern Hemisphere (white gold) and for the Southern Hemisphere (rose gold). The unique set was produced in a limited edition of 101 exemplars only.
2005 With innovative home and zone-time indications and a peripheral city ring, the LANGE 1 TIME ZONE is the perfect companion for frequent travelers and cosmopolites. During the development, the focus was placed on maximum legibility. The offcentre dial configuration enables readings of home time and the hour in a second time zone at a single glance. The new luminous version in white gold presented this year accomplishes this in the dark as well.
2010 The first automatic movement in a LANGE 1 adds a further chapter to the success story of the brand's most famous timepiece family. The discreet distinguishing feature of the LANGE 1 DAYMATIC is a mirrored dial layout. A retrograde day-ofweek indication forms the perfect counterpoint to the outsize date display.
2012 The LANGE 1 TOURBILLON PERPETUAL CALENDAR unites two classic complications with the expressive LANGE 1 style. Thanks to an innovative arrangement of the calendar displays outside the hour and minute circles, it presents an abundance of information in a perfectly legible layout. All calendar indications switch simultaneously and thus always deliver unambiguous readings. A modest inscription at 12 o'clock refers to the second complication: The tourbillon with its patented stop-seconds mechanism can be admired in all its technical immaculacy through the sapphire-crystal caseback.
2012 The appearance of the GRAND LANGE 1 is characterized by elegant proportions. To transpose the balanced dial layout of the LANGE 1 to the new larger model, a totally new manually wound movement was developed. This made it possible to arrange the time indications, the outsize date and the power-reserve indication without any overlaps and at the same time to slim down the silhouette.
