  • Newsletter - The beautiful game

He did it with Hublot and now he is doing it with TAG Heuer. Whether it is breaking new ground or using tried, tested and proven recipes, Jean-Claude Biver aims high. Between them, two brands of the LVMH watch division of which he is chairman now have partnerships with the FIFA World Cup, three top-flight European football clubs, the German Bundesliga (see our announcement from Saturday) and some of the world's most popular footballers and team managers.

Other watch brands followed hot on Hublot's heels, suddenly realizing the huge potential of this hitherto untapped market, but the new announcement by TAG Heuer occupies yet another strategic position in the game, in a market of 80 million people with a league that is broadcast in over 200 countries. After Hublot brought high-end watchmaking to the wrists of the world's rich footballers, TAG Heuer will now offer its more affordable Swiss Made timepieces to the broader audience of fans. All this will help to further boost the bottom line of the LVMH watch and jewellery division, which announced a 91% increase in net profits last week (against an overall background increase of 5% for the group as a whole).

By happy coincidence, the other watch brands in the LVMH portfolio all feature prominently on WorldTempus this week, starting today with a look at the Louis Vuitton Tambour collection by Michele Brunner. Later this week we will also be taking a look at the new Bulgari Scuba collection and an Extra Special version of the Zenith Pilot Type 20.

  • Newsletter - The four seasons of Geneva in two months

Over the course of a year, renowned Geneva-based photographer Christian Pfahl trod the route of the Geneva Watch Tour to capture vestiges of the city's great past as the birthplace of Swiss watchmaking in the architecture of the city centre.

From Wednesday this week, the results of his work can be seen in an exhibition of 24 photos on display at the Cite du Temps in the heart of the city. Camille Gendre offers a sneak preview of the exhibition in her article and WorldTempus will be publishing the photos from the exhibition over the coming weeks.

Tomorrow you can read David Chokron's interview with Guillaume de Seynes, Vice-President of Hermes International and President of la Montre Hermes, and Laurent Dordet, the new managing director of watchmaking at Hermes. Our mini-theme on the brand famous for its orange boxes will continue later in the week with a detailed focus on one of the watch collections by Michele Brunner.

As summer slowly comes to Europe, we see the first of the year's yachting regattas. After covering Panerai's Classic Yacht Regatta in Antibes last week, our focus turned to the Bol d'Or over the weekend. It is Europe's biggest closed-water regatta, held every year on Lake Geneva, and is sponsored by Hublot. Camille Gendre braved the uncertain conditions on the lake just outside the watchmaking capital to cover the start for WorldTempus. You can read her report on the site later this week.

  • Newsletter - Motorbikes, moon phases and a new partner brand

After starting the week with an analysis of planned developments at Emile Chouriet, a brand worth keeping an eye on over the next few years, I ended it with a review of the watch brands involved in last weekend's Le Mans 24-hour endurance race. Like the football World Cup that started last week, there is always a clear winner in the competition, but it's not as easy to determine who is winning in the watch marketing stakes.

Staying with motorsport, our in-house biker and self-confessed motorbike addict Michele Brunner presented an overview of watch brands' involvement in motorbike racing to coincide with the Catalan MotoGP and the theme of motorbikes also crept into David Chokron's interview with Bruno Belamich, co-founder and artistic of Bell&Ross. Aside from discussing the marketing coup of attracting the sizeable community of Harley-Davidson fans with its unique B-Rocket project and talking about the eagerly anticipated X1, David also traces the origins of the brand and the attention to detail in its visual identity - right down to the typefaces that Bell&Ross uses.

As the deadline for submissions for this year's Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix looms ever nearer, Michele Sofisti, CEO of Girard-Perregaux, whose Constant Escapement won the Aiguille d'Or last year, shared his views on the award's impact to continue our column on the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix.

Roberta Naas looked at the brands that are catering to an increasing demand for mechanical complications for ladies with a selection of feminine moon phase watches. Our trend expert Marie de Pimodan-Bugnon is hot on her heels this coming week with a selection of more playful timepieces for the fairer sex. Not wishing to be outdone, David Chokron will also be presenting a trend that he spotted in Basel this year. And we will be bringing you the first news of a major new feature that we have planned for the summer months.

Last but certainly not least, I am delighted to announce that Chronoswiss is the latest brand to place its trust in WorldTempus. The brand has big plans, which we look forward to sharing with you and we welcome them to the site.
