  • Longines - The Longines Prize for Precision

Longines has been since 2008 the Official Partner and Timekeeper of the Archery World Cup season. The tour started in May in Shanghai, China then visited Antalya, Turkey and Wroclaw, Poland. Athletes receive points for finishing in the top 32 at each event on the Archery World Cup circuit. At the fourth and last stage of the Archery World Cup in Medellin, Colombia, 32 elite athletes booked their invitations to the Mexico City 2015 Archery World Cup Final.

This sport represents the values that the brand cherishes - precision, tradition and elegance. To succeed, the athletes master bow and arrow through concentration, balance, accuracy, and skill. In Mexico City, the Official Watch of the event was a model from The Longines Master Collection. It features a silver-finished "barleycorn" patterned dial which makes an elegantly contrasting background to the moon-phase display.

To round up the Archery World Cup season, Longines presented the Longines Prize for Precision on Saturday 25, following the compound final. Female athlete Sara Lopez from Colombia and male athlete Mike Schloesser from the Netherlands were the most precise archers of the 2015 World Cup in the compound category. They have scored the most "10 rings" during the qualifications and the tournaments of the season. They each received a Longines Prize for Precision-trophy, a Longines watch and a cheque.

  • Newsletter - In search of the sun

The founding of the Swiss Confederation on 1 August 1291 is celebrated each year with a typically Swiss mixture of solemnity and festivities. One element that was lacking this year, however, was the summer sun.

Switzerland has had a shockingly bad summer, with some localities even experiencing horrendous floods. It's the kind of weather that hampers the use of a watch like the Longines Hour Angle, which we wrist-tested over the past few weeks, because you need to see the sun at least briefly in order to establish the correct solar time.

In fact, the best timepieces for the recent conditions were probably the high-performance diver's models that we featured in our second instalment of diver's watches last week.

In our second article on the categories in this year's Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix we looked at the sports watches, which cover all bases - from football to Formula 1 via… military aviation. With ten more categories to analyse, I'm sure this won't be the last of the surprises.

Some of our colleagues will be returning from sunnier climes this week and we hope that they will be bringing some of the nice weather back with them. We will at least be injecting a little sunshine into our Summer Watches series this week as we take a look at watches with summer landscapes.

  • Longines - Longines Ladies Awards 2014

On 14 June in the Grand Stables of the Princes of Conde, on the Chantilly domain, a jury including Longines Ambassador of Elegance Kate Winslet paid tribute to women who have dedicated their careers to the equine cause.

Sylvie Robert picked up the award for her contribution to the development of equestrian sport in Europe after the success of this year's Longines FEI World Cup Jumping in Lyon, for which she was in charge of the organisation.

Criquette Head-Maarek was awarded her prize in recognition for her contribution to the development of training and looking after a racehorse. Last year, her filly Treve was named World's Best Racehorse and ranked first in the Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings at the end of the season.

Jing Li was recognised for her contrbution to the development of equestrian sports in Asia, and China in particular. She organised the first showjumping competitions with international riders in China, the Longines Equestrial Beijing Masters held at the Beijing Olympic stadium.

Bo Derek was honoured for her efforts in regards to equine welfare and safety in the United States, having worked closely with the Animal Welfare Institute and as an ambassador for the Breeder's Cup World Championships.

The Longines Ladies Awards are just one example of the brand's b involvement in the equestrian world, which dates back to 1878, when the company produced a chronograph engraved with a horse and jockey.

  • Longines - A passion for equestrian sports

    Press release

Longines FEI World Endurance Championships at Euston Park

Euston Park, Suffolk (UK) / Saint-Imier (Switzerland), August 26th 2012 - Held across 160km of land in the beautiful grounds of the Euston Estate, the seat of the Duke and Duchess of Grafton, and several local landowners, the championships were truly a test of skill and stamina for both horses and riders.

The event saw a star studded field of riders and horses tackle the course in a single day across terrain such as forest tracks, river meadows and open farmland. The individual winner of the Longines FEI Endurance Championships 2012 was His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on his horse Madji du Pont who completed the event in 7hr00min45sec with the UAE team winning gold followed by France and Oman respectively. Longines presented watches from the new Longines Saint-Imier collection to HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as well as the four UAE team riders. Longines also presented a prize to the horse in the best condition after the race, won by Spanish competitor Ikland. The Longines Saint-Imier Collection has been inspired by the origins of Longines' watch-making tradition and the sleek lines and the distinctive lugs provide these new models with a subtle balance between classical and contemporary design.

Longines' passion for equestrian sports dates back to 1878 with the production of a chronograph engraved with a jockey and his horse. The Swiss watch brand has a vast experience in timing equestrian events. Seen on the racetracks in 1881 and extremely popular among jockeys and horse-lovers, this model, which enabled its user to time performances to the second, was already being used by most of the sports judges in New York as early as 1886. In addition, in 1926 the brand was appointed official timekeeper for the Concours Hippique International Officiel de Geneve for the first time. As an official partner and timekeeper at the Longines FEI World Endurance Championships, the famous Swiss watchmaker demonstrates a commitment to the world of equestrian sports, disciplines that represent its values of tradition, precision and elegance. For more than 80 years, Longines has taken part in over one hundred national and international equestrian events. The brand has established numerous partnerships around the world as timekeeper and partner of prestigious horse-shows and Longines' involvement in equestrian sport includes show jumping and flat racing as well as endurance.

Longines has been based at Saint-Imier, Switzerland, since 1832. It is celebrating 180 years of non-stop craftsmanship in 2012 and its watchmaking expertise reflects a b devotion to tradition, elegance and performance. It has generations of experience as the official timekeeper at world championships and as a partner of international sports federations. Over the years, the brand has built b and long-lasting links with the equestrian sports. Longines is a member of The Swatch Group S.A., the world's leading manufacturer of horological products. With an excellent reputation for creating refined timepieces, the brand, whose emblem is the winged hourglass, has outlets in over 130 countries.
