I got this for my sister and she loved it! It looks great and both men and women. They only thing is that it easily gets dirty. Comes with an alternative black strap, looks great in that color as well.

  • IWC Ingenieur Mission Earth Black Dial Automatic Men's Watch 3236-01

Great looking IWC watch, but BIG! If your hands are like bear paws and you've got a lot of meat hanging off your bones like my bro, it looks fine. If you're long and lean like me, it's very noticeable. Everyone likes it though, because it looks good. Glow in the dark is only on the narrow hand tips, so good luck at night.

  • IWC - Portuguese Annual Calendar

In 2015, IWC Schaffhausen celebrates the 75th birthday of the Portuguese line. In keeping with its jubilee, the new Portuguese collection comes with a host of technological and design modifications as well as new features. Furthermore, IWC plans to launch three new calibre families in the years ahead. Initiating this move is the 52000-calibre family, which is found in four models in the new Portuguese collection. The newly designed annual calendar celebrates its debut and the perpetual calendar with its digital large date display is likewise welcomed into the Portuguese portfolio.

The new Portuguese Annual Calendar brings together two firsts for IWC and three masterstrokes of haute horlogerie: the newly developed annual calendar closes the gap between the perpetual calendar and the simple date display. The new IWC-manufactured 52850 calibre has two barrels that keep the new function supplied with ample energy and still has enough left for a 7-day power reserve.

Located at "12 o'clock" on the dial, IWC's annual calendar shows the month, date and day in three separate, semicircular windows. This "American" order in which the date is shown was not only necessary from a technical and design point of view, but is also a homage to F. A. Jones, IWC's American founder.
The switching mechanism automatically takes into account the differing lengths of individual months but not the differing length of the month of February or the leap years. Once a year, then, it requires manual correction. This correction is carried out easily using the crown. Thanks to this elegant solution, the engineers were able to dispense with a corrector, which would have compromised the watch's purist design.

With its 44.2-millimetre case, grooved bezel, classic railway-track-style chapter ring, slim feuille hands and almost unchanged Arabic numerals, the Portuguese Annual Calendar very closely resembles the original Portuguese of 1939. The small seconds subdial, however, is not positioned at "6 o'clock" as in the original, but at "9 o'clock". The subdial on the opposite side contains the power reserve display. The in-house movement with 7-day power reserve is yet another quantum leap in the history of the Portuguese family.

The Portuguese Annual Calendar is available in 18-carat red gold (Ref. IW503504) with a silver-plated dial or in stainless steel with a silver-plated (Ref. IW503501) or midnight blue (Ref. IW503502) dial. All versions of the watch are fitted with black Santoni alligator leather straps.
The arched-edge sapphire glass makes the case look slimmer and underscores the watch's classic elegance. The curved strap horns ensure greater comfort even on slimmer wrists. The see-through sapphire-glass back provides an unimpeded view of the new IWC-manufactured 52850 calibre. Across the entire 52000-calibre family, the rotors have been made slimmer, while the bridges are more open and inset with a solid gold "Probus Scafusia" medallion. This way, even more details of the movement with its two barrels can be seen. The improved Pellaton winding system with the practically wear-free components made of ceramic is also clearly visible. Overall, it took IWC's watch designers almost 5 years to develop the annual calendar.

  • IWC - Volvo Ocean Race Yacht

Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) unveiled its Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing team's state-of-the-art Volvo Open 70 racing yacht in Portofino, Northern Italy, as it charts a historic course to contest for top honours in the Volvo Ocean Race 2011/12.
The yacht - which was developed by the USA's Farr Yacht Design and built by Italy's Persico S.p.A, in Bergamo - is one of the most sophisticated ever constructed. Conceived in March 2010, it is the combination of more than 7,000 design and 49,000 build hours.
Emblazoned with a striking falcon, the national emblem of the United Arab Emirates of which Abu Dhabi city is the capital, soaring across its bow and main sails, the brilliant black yacht is tasked with carrying the 11-b Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing through the nine-month, 39,000 nautical mile 'Everest of Sailing', which begins in Alicante, Spain this October.

"We have invested in the very best yacht design and build technology available to underpin the expertise of the highly-skilled Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing team we have formed," said His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman, ADTA and Team Principal, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing. "This level of commitment is a clear signal of our intention to deliver a first-class performance in our debut Volvo Ocean Race and in our podium ambitions."
The yacht's international debut, set against the spectacular backdrop of the Italian Riviera, was attended by VIPs from Volvo Ocean Race, the Mayor of Portofino and Official Team Partner, the luxury Swiss brand IWC Schaffhausen.
Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, which boasts one of the most international crews ever assembled since the Volvo Ocean Race began in 1973, will now undergo final training in Europe, having spent the winter in the UAE capital.
Over the last few months, the team - the first Volvo Ocean Race Arabian challenger - has been spread all over the globe with weather training in the USA, wind-tunnel sail testing in New Zealand, race practice in the UK and Hong Kong, as well as mast construction in Spain and yacht build in Italy. The team - which is skippered by double-Olympic medallist, Ian Walker of Great Britain - has set its sight on a rigorous Atlantic Ocean sailing programme, before heading to the race start in Spain this October.
"To get to this stage has been a phenomenal international effort which has, in many ways, set new benchmarks. With just under three months to go until the start, we have a demanding time ahead yet with the full team assembled and our new yacht raring to go, we are more than ready to meet it head on," said Walker.

Representing five continents, the outfit also boasts two UAE nationals - 22-year-old Olympian Adil Khalid, and 27-year-old Butti Al Muhairi - who beat off more than 120 hopefuls to earn their places on the sailing and shore teams respectively. Their participation will mark the first time an Emirati has competed in this ultimate endurance race.
The 2011/2012 Volvo Ocean Race will be contested around six continents and across four oceans before ending in Galway, Ireland, in summer 2012. Abu Dhabi will welcome teams from 1-14 January 2012 after they complete a punishing leg from Cape Town.
ADTA has committed to staging a fortnight-long, emirate-wide celebration to mark the Volvo Ocean Race arrival - from headline concerts and interactive race villages for the whole family to great holiday packages across Abu Dhabi's plethora of 4- and 5-star resorts.
The emirate is well progressed with plans for a specially-designed 55,000m² 'Destination Village' being built on Abu Dhabi's picturesque Corniche breakwater. The 'Destination Village' - which will be around the size of eight football pitches - will open free-of-charge to the public daily from December 30 this year to January 14, next year. ADTA anticipates welcoming more than 100,000 visitors through the gates.
The village will be highly interactive and will leverage the emirate's rich maritime heritage. It will be packed with activities and entertainment including exhibitions, shows, simulators, hospitality, game zones, food & beverage outlets and merchandise shops.

  • Harry Winston - Opus X

In 2001, Harry Winston launched The Opus Series - a creative new initiative designed to reconstruct and redesign time. By partnering with the industry's most revered independent watch makers, each Opus reflects and unprecedented journey of collaboration and innovation, resulting in a groundbreaking timepiece that neither partner could have imagined alone.
True to the Harry Winston Timepiece DNA, technical innovation is impeccably reengineered and refined. Crafted in the finest materials, timepiece technologies are explored to the extreme to create an innovative and abstract expression of time.

OPUS X - The Shape of Time

Inspired by planetary movements and the space-time continuum, Opus X captures the shape and dimensionality of time through the synchronous rotation of circular motions. Replacing a traditional fixed dial and watch hands, time is displayed as system of rotating indicators mounted on a revolving frame. Presenting a new technical challenge, as the frame completes a full rotation, the dials of each indicator turn in the opposite direction, ensuring orientation remains constant in any position.

Recalling the celestial mechanics of the solar system, the hand-wound mechanical movement functions as a planetary gear train, consisting of solar wheel, satellite wheels, and frame. The indicators for hours, minutes, seconds, and secondary timezone, are set on the individual satellite wheels, which orbit around the central, solar wheel. Each indicator is set at a slight incline, allowing the dials to follow the curvature of the case, while ensuring fluidity in rotation. The frame is driven separately to complete a full rotation in 24-hours.
Creating coherency throughout the design, the 72-hour power reserve operates as special planetary gear train, in which the diameter of the satellite wheel equals the radius of the crown wheel resulting in a linear indication. Balance regulation and chamfered bridges enhance the stability and functionality of the power reserve. A transparent backing shows the geometric precision and beautiful finishing of the movement.
Modern and pure, 46mm white gold case is designed without a bezel, adding light and transparency to the design. Attached directly to case, rounded sapphire crystal enhances the overall visibility of the dial animation. In the collaborative tradition of Opus, the names of both partners - Harry Winston and watch engineer Jean-François Mojon - are marked on the bottom of the case. Pushing the innovative extremes and challenging the perceptions of time, the resulting design is a groundbreaking accomplishment that is the essence of the Opus Series.

    COLLABORATION
JEAN-FRANCOIS MOJON: Fascinated by engineering from a very early age, Jean- François was introduced to the watch making trade through his father, who worked in the technical watch business. After earning his diploma in engineering and microtechnology in Le Locle. Mojon joined the industry working on research and development of movements and new complications for several international timepiece brands, including Swatch Group and IWC. In 2005, he began his own company, Chronode SA. Specializing in the development of high complication movements, the company is based in Le Locle, Switzerland. The historic heart of Swiss watch making, the industrial epicenter sits at the cross roads of timepiece tradition and modern innovation - the perfect place to continue the Opus experience.
