170 years after the very beginnings of the watchmaking industry in Glashutte/Saxony, the brand kick starts its international roadshow, which will travel from city to city in the coming months. The exhibition concept has a circular and welcoming setup based on three pillars: the rich heritage, the exciting present and the promising future of the brand.

Multi-media installations highlight various facets of Glashutte Original not only focusing on the manufactory, but also on the Alfred Helwig School of Watchmaking and the German Watch Museum Glashutte.

A selection of historic timepieces from the German Watch Museum Glashutte are on display, as well as technical and design milestones from previous years.

At the very heart of the exhibition is a "watchmaking bar" where visitors can discover the in-house expertise and skills of Glashutte Original's craftsmen, test their own watchmaking talents under professional guidanceand discover the dexterity and special skills of a dial maker from the company's own dial manufactory.

With this exceptionally beautiful model the Saxon manufactory presents women with a shimmering jewel: 513 radiant, brillant-cut diamonds sparkle and glitter, offering a dramatic spectacle.

This luxurious ladies watch takes up and plays with the distinctive cushion shape that dates back to the 1920s. 308 diamonds set in soft, flowing lines follow the eye-catching forms of the white gold case. The front and sides of the case are decorated with diamonds, lending this exquisite work a graceful appearance from every point of view. The characteristic cushion shape may be found as well at the centre of the mother-of-pearl dial, surrounded by a refined guilloche: 118 brillant-cut diamonds have been painstakingly set by hand at the Saxon firm's own dial manufactory.

The time is indicated by filigreed feuille hands, which glide over the brillant-cut diamond indexes. The refined date window is presented in perfectly colour-matched harmony at hour 6 on the dial. For this iridescent model the Glashutte Original logo has been printed on the inside of the domed sapphire crystal and fairly floats above the surface of the dial.

This love of detail is equally evident on the lugs, which are lavishly decorated with 74 brillant-cut diamonds, while the crown is topped with a single brilliant. An elegant satin strap in a glowing orchid tone gives this timepiece a vibrant appearance.

All watches in the Pavonina collection feature the absolute precision assured by the Calibre 03-01 quartz movement. An innovative feature offers three times the standard magnetic protection, shielding the sensitive mechanism from the influence of modern mobile electronic devices and thus enhancing the quality of the watch. The plate is decorated with the characteristic Glashutte stripe finish, and the engraved logo appears in gold on the silver plate. The polished case back provides ample space for individual engravings and personal dedications.

This exclusive model will be available worldwide solely in our dedicated Glashutte Original and franchise boutiques in Dresden, Paris, Dubai, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macau and Tokyo as well as in the Tourbillon Boutiques of the Swatch Group. 

The 1970s spelled the start of certain eventful stories as well as seeming to mark the end of an era. This complex decade witnessed the invention of some of the major watch models currently in production - and all this at a time when the Swiss watch industry was experiencing a dizzying drop due to the spread of quartz movements made in Japan. However, these important watches and the watch industry lived to tell the tale, and the common denominator among these designs (often referred to as iconic) is that they established the codes of sport-chic watches as decidedly high-end and made of steel. The Royal Oak by Audemars Piguet and the Nautilus from Patek Philippe were the milestone models in forging this new trend.
Integration
The Senator Seventies by Glashutte Original is a worthy descendant of this prestigious lineage in two key respects: firstly, by its sport-chic nature; and secondly through certain design options that anchor it firmly in the age of bell-bottom trousers. This model, launched in 2011 and a permanent fixture in the catalogue of the German brand owned by the Swatch Group, is distinguished by its square shape, its generously rounded angles and the absence of protruding lugs - the watch band being attached along the entire width. It is mainly available in steel with a choice of blue, anthracite or white dial bearing gold hands and hour-markers. At Baselworld 2013, the range was enriched with rubber and above all alligator straps. All models are equipped with the 39-47 self-winding large date movement by Manufacture Glashutte. This model's full name is thus the Senator Seventies Panorama Date.
Relaxed and refined
Above and beyond facts and figures, the Senator Seventies is an incredibly pleasant and ergonomic watch. It exudes a relaxed aura typical of the 1970s (for those who experienced them). Although a finely made watch, its design is carefree and endows it with an attribute much sought-after by lovers of fine objects: that of nonchalant elegance. This is possibly due to the proportions of the case, as well as its seamless integration with the bracelet composed of understated and supple intermeshing links. Thus Senator Seventies Panorama Date thus easily adjusts to small wrists with its 40 x 40 mm size, despite occupying a considerably larger space than a 40 mm-diameter round case.

"Pavonina" is Latin for peacock, and it is a rather fitting name for this new line of watches designed just for women. As Glashutte Original is a brand that normally caters to the horological needs and desires of men, it seems fitting that this peacock now provides something for its lovely peahen - and thus the female is celebrated.

The new age of cinema coincided with an age of burgeoning emancipation for women in Europe, and thus 1920s style was chosen as the base design era for the Pavonina, which is at home in a cushion-shaped case crafted in stainless steel or 18-karat rose gold. It was in this age that practical clothes entered the stores, women entered the workplace, and decorative little luxuries began to take on a new meaning. Pavonina fulfills many of these same criteria even today.
Women were the era's trendsetters, propagating the new look of wearing a watch in places other than the vest pocket: at first on pins, brooches and chains around the neck, then finally on the wrist. Shaped cases emerged to reflect the new trend and showed without a doubt that these housings were created specifically for use as a wristwatch since often during this era small pocket watches simply received soldered lugs through which a leather strap was looped to bind it to the wrist. The cushion-shaped case is thus a distinct product of its era.

In fact, when Glashutte finally entered the modern age of the times, it did so when UFAG/UROFA (which eventually became Tutima) jumped from pocket watch movement production straight to ladies wristwatch movement production in 1927. Men's wristwatch movements were only added after that.
Timepieces made for the female wrist came to embody both precision and decorative elements that made them also feel like jewelry. In the 1970s and 1980s Glashutter Uhrenbetrieb (Glashutte Original's forerunner and parent company) began using quartz movements of their own design and manufacture, which placed it squarely in the midst of another horological trend of global stature for the Saxon company.
During those years, naturally, the Saxon maker combined the two trends to make practical, useful, decorative and precise wristwatches for women. Today, this idea is relaunched.

Relaunch
The Pavonina thus concentrates on being decorative with its many styles and retro-styled cushion-shaped case; being easy to handle with its time-and-date display and quartz movement; being practical with its small case size; and being beautiful with its precious metals and diamonds. The numerous references launching the line reflect the same diversity with which women are endowed.
The most elaborate reference is the one that brings us back around to the peacock. Taking a feather of this elegant bird as its inspiration, the sumptuous dial embellished with 98 diamonds is reminiscent of a stylized peacock tail. The softly flowing lines of the case encompass another 114 diamonds.
Glashutte Original launched the Pavonina during Berlin's film festival, the Berlinale, where the Saxon brand was the co-sponsor for third time. Prices for Pavonina begin at 3,900 euros.
