you need to wear the watch at least every other day or the watch will quit. The sell winding feature only last about 2-3 days. The watch looks great and functions well if worn often.

The epitome of elegance that is aesthetically powerful as ever thanks to its finely balanced design, the Lange 1 appealed to women well before the appearance of the Petite Lange 1 broadened the circle of female devotees. Today, the exclusively femi- nine model pursues its winning ways by adopting a pale and yet intense blue dial. To achieve this, the solid silver underplate is coated with a blue background and then a thin layer of mother-of-pearl. This unusual face is framed by an exterior in subtly matching shades (as illustrated) or with a pink gold case on a leather strap. The movement side reveals the distinctive features of the German Manufacture, such as the three-quarter plate adorned with "côtes de Glashutte", gold chatons held by blued screws, the hand-engraved balance bridge and swan's neck fine regulation.

In 1994, it was one of the first four models to go on sale after the company's relaunch. Since then, Saxonia has evolved into a ten-b family of models. A. Lange & Söhne presented three of these with a new dial in January 2015: Saxonia Dual Time, Saxonia and Saxonia Automatic. They are now available from stockists.

The name 'Saxonia' refers to the German state of Saxony, which has repeatedly set benchmarks in technical developments over the course of history. The Dresden watchmaker Ferdinand Adolph Lange became part of this legacy by establishing his manufactory here. His efforts to achieve perfection and his continuous improvements to mechanical constructions remain a core part of the philosophy of A. Lange & Söhne, and are also reflected in the models which make up the Saxonia family.

The Datograph Perpetual juxtaposes a white-gold case and a grey dial. Since 2006, its name has been a synonym for the ingenious combination of a flyback chronograph and a perpetual calendar. With three highly elaborate mechanisms, it fully lives up to the task of precise short-time measurements: The column-wheel concept assures dependable control of all chronograph functions, the jumping minute counter always delivers distinct legibility of stopped times and the flyback system makes it possible to accurately measure the durations of events in quick succession.

With its Lange outsize date, day of week, month and leap year indications, the perpetual calendar requires no adjustment until the year 2100, when a one-day correction is needed. All calendar displays can be advanced simultaneously using the rapid-correction pusher. Additionally, three recessed correctors allow the displays to be adjusted separately.

The dark grey hue of the dial clearly emphasises the displays and prominently showcases the deep blue lunar disc with its golden stars. Baton hour markers as well as hour and minute hands in rhodiumed gold highlight the rich-contrast design that was first introduced with the 2010 launch of the pink-gold version. The chronograph hand indicates the stopped time to one-fifth of a second. It is made of blued steel. The same material was chosen for the minute counter and seconds hands, allowing them to stand out prominently against the bright rhodie background of the subsidiary dials. The manually wound L952.1 movement consists of 556 lavishly finished parts,and offers 36 hours of power reserve.

In the autumn of 1989, the pounding of Germany's heart rose to a crescendo - in Leipzig as well as in Dresden and Berlin. The scorching breath of history raced through central Europe. It was palpable. And there was no stopping it, neither with words nor with weapons. During the evening of 9 November, the Berlin Wall, the most absurd structure in recent history, finally collapsed. From then on, the reunification of the two German states was merely a matter of time. It came to pass on 3 October 1990. The historic event reawakened long-lost hopes in the heart of one man: Walter Lange. After the expropriation of his family's watchmaking company in 1948, he had been forced to flee from his hometown Glashutte and took exile in Pforzheim near Stuttgart.

History had reshuffled the cards and opened a critical time window for the great-grand- son of Ferdinand A. Lange, the founder of Germany's precision watchmaking industry. Would it be possible, after an imposed hiatus of more than 40 years, to reinstate the venerable marque that had been established in 1845 and for over one hundred years enjoyed the stature of Germany's most famous watch brand? Could it be resurrected from the archives of collectors and go head to head with the over-whelming competition from Switzerland? Yes. The fascinating idea of transforming the A. Lange & Söhne saga into timepieces again was so compelling that it became reality. The rest is history. It begins with the incorporation of Lange Uhren GmbH on 7 December 1990 by courageous individuals, spurred on especially by Gunter Blumlein, Walter Lange's visionary companion. With a small, dedicated team of ingenious designers and watchmakers, they succeeded in rebuilding the A. Lange & Söhne brand from virtually nothing. It is a story replete with enthusiasm, sacrifice, and success.

On 24 October 1994, after four years of arduous preparatory work, key dealers and specialised journalists witnessed the presentation of the first Lange collection in over four decades during a vibrantly memorable event in the Dresden Palace. Boom or bust? The premiere quartet - the Lange 1, Saxonia, Arkade, and Tourbillon "Pour le Merite" debuts - surpassed all expectations: Germany had found its time again. The announcement of the renaissance of the illustrious name spread through the world like wildfire. Representing a synthesis of classic Lange quality features and imaginative horological innovations, the new watches were unique and so irresistibly convincing that Walter Lange, otherwise known for his modesty, ambitiously declared without hesitation: "We want to build the world's finest watches again."

After a long suite of acclaimed horological accomplishments with milestones like the Datograph, the Tourbograph "Pour le Merite" or the Lange Zeitwerk, A. Lange & Söhne has established itself as one of the most exclusive watch brands in meanwhile more than 50 countries. The small team grew to become a workforce of nearly 450 people. And the portfolio of four inaugural watches has expanded into a full-fledged collection of over 70 models. So far, the exceptional product and design quality embodied in Lange watches has garnered more than 140 international awards. Thus, the reunification of Germany 20 years ago laid the foundation for the reinstatement of "Made in Germany" at the pinnacle of precision watchmaking.

Not everyone has the chance to look over the shoulder of a Lange master watchmaker or through his magnifying glass into the inner workings of a Lange watch. When designing its Internet relaunch, the primary aim of the renowned German watchmaking manufactory was to bring to life the values and special characteristics of A. Lange & Söhne.

The traditional brand has been present on the internet for six years at www.langesoehne. com. But whereas previously the website focused on user-friendly structures and easily understandable technical information, A. Lange & Söhne has now gone a step further by completely reworking their Internet presence to make it above all an emotional statement.
When you ask the master watchmakers at Lange what motivates them, the response you hear again and again is "commitment" - to craftsmanship, perfection and precision. The aim of the website is not just to convey this commitment, but also to provide a source of inspiration. "Our Internet presence is one of our most important communication tools", states Lange CEO Fabian Krone. "We use it to address watch aficionados and collectors directly throughout the world. We hope that when visiting our website, visitors catch the spark of passion for our timepieces."

Clear structures make the site more user-friendly and large-format pictures of watches and short video clips offer moments of visual enjoyment. An understated grey is the dominant colour, and behind this are unique insights into the world of A. Lange & Söhne. Clicking www.lange-soehne.com initially introduces the latest creation of Lange's master watchmakers, the LANGE ZEITWERK model. Visitors can then choose between the following two sections:
MANUFACTORY AND PASSION takes a tour through the history of the traditional Saxon brand and presents special features of Lange timepieces, such as the threequarter plate with Glashutte ribbing. Details of the superb craftsmanship behind all watch components are graphically illustrated, e.g. polishing, engraving and decoration. The inventive talents of Saxony are celebrated and Lange patents, including the zero reset mechanism, are clearly explained. Clicking the "Contemporary Manufacturing" button starts a visual tour of the Lange production facilities.
TIMEPIECES AND PRECISION opens the door to the eleven product lines of the manufactory with all watches and references. A zoom function enables the visitor to inspect the models in greater detail.
