A. Lange & Söhne - The Germany's Top Luxury Brand
With a grand total of 242 points out of a possible 300, the watchmaker from Saxony's Ore Mountains once again stands head and shoulders above all the other luxury brands and ranks - like in 2007 - before the automobile manufacturers Maybach (218) and Porsche (197) as well as various furniture, timepieces, jewellery, and fashion brands.
The highest score of 87 points in the category "brand ap-peal" contributed greatly to this placing. Along with criteria to do with pricing, this category played a decisive role in the overall score. Since 2005, the luxury league table is drawn up every two years by the Munich "Brand Rating" agency at the instigation of the magazine "Wirtschaftswoche" among the leading German luxury brands. The data was collected in more than 150 interviews with experts from the respective industries.
Originally founded in the mid-19th century by Ferdinand Adolph Lange, this Saxon watch making company in the small town of Glashutte near Dresden used to manufacture precision pocket watches that ranked among the most sought-after and prestigious timepieces in the world - until the expropri-ation of the East German watch industry following World War II.
However, immediately after the German Reunification, Walter Lange, the great-grandson of the founder, re-established the company and once again turned A. Lange & Söhne into one of the leading international names in the world of watches.
