  • Bell & Ross - Passion about military history

    Organized in the framework of the World War I centenary commemoration, this great exhibition will will take place at Musee de l'Armee from October 15th, 2014 to January 25th, 2015. "Vu du front" exhibition will be concerned about the way the conflict's contemporaries saw, perceived and represented the front between the beginning and the end of the war. It will also compare the different fronts approaches: the Western front, the Eastern front, the Austro-Italian front, the Middle-East's, the Dardanelles' and the Balkan's.

    Bell & Ross has always been passionated about the military history and in particular about the history of aviation. That's why this year, Bell & Ross wanted to honor a great hero of the french aviation, Captain Georges Guynemer, by creating a watch, the Vintage WW1 Guynemer, paying tribute to this legendary pilot and the storks squadron.

  • Bell & Ross - Baselworld 2014 : From the open road to the control tower with the new B-Rocket and BR 03-94 Carbon Orange

    This is one announcement that is sure to create quite a stir. Quite a lot of noise in fact. And smoke. The first petrol-driven watch, perhaps? Well nearly; the first horological motorbike!

    Bell & Ross, in the habit of drawing inspiration from aircraft design, has decided to put down the undercarriage for once. The brand has briefly left the runway for the open road - and the throaty roar of a twin-cylinder bike. Renewing its collaboration with Harley-Davidson, Bell & Ross has co-developed a concept bike with a pure and powerful frame, reminiscent of the ultra-modern look of the 1960s and the first American jets.

    This is an exercise in style that will no doubt come as a surprise to the supporters of pure watchmaking creations, especially at the sacred shrine of Baselworld. But it's precisely the kind of thing that leads to creative emulation, thereby pushing the envelope and nurturing new ideas - just the kind of creativity that resulted in the ground-breaking, angular, highly-strung lines of the very first BRs.

    Today, the approach seeks to be less direct - and more rounded. The bike in question is one of a kind, the B-Rocket. It borrows heavily from the lines of the ground-hugging vehicles of 50 years ago, based in turn on the experimental aircraft of the 1960s and the Bonneville Salt Flats speed bikes of Nevada. Is it a bike? Is it a plane? No, it's an airplane-motorcycle! And for Bell & Ross, above all it's the incarnation of their creative vision: sublimating the modernity of the past.

    Orange carbon: radically Bell

    As far as watchmaking goes, this year Bell & Ross is highlighting a very exclusive series called BR 03-94 Carbon Orange. Once again it is aimed at aircraft enthusiasts and those who put a premium on readability and functionality. The watch features the large, square frame peculiar to BRs. Its chronograph makes it firmly sports-oriented - preferably high-altitude sports. Two variations are on offer with two types of strap: a black rubber model and another in orange reinforced fabric - aesthetic alternatives which Bell & Ross has already used on a large number of models, including the BR126 most recently.

    The 42 mm watch is PVD treated and features an ETA 2894 automatic mechanical movement. On its two-button chronograph, the button in the 2 o'clock position is topped with an orange polycarbonate coating, reminiscent of the flight instruments dear to the world of Bell & Ross.

  • Bell & Ross - BR 01 Heading indicator


    In 2013, Bell & Ross is enhancing the AVIATION collection with three new instruments directly inspired by the cockpit, - Heading indicator, Airspeed and Climb - and essential to flying and navigation. We have already presented the Climb; today, let's learn more about the BR 01 Heading indicator
     


    Bell & Ross designers have borrowed the graphic characteristics of the heading indicator to create an original and innovative display of time.
    • The dial comprises three independent concentric discs, graduated for the hours and minutes. The seconds are displayed in the center on a disc, which is not graduated, but features a yellow marker. The hour reading is indicated by the yellow triangle, which appears on the outer hours' disc. Minutes are read from the middle disc.
    • The WES (West, East and South) indications are also displayed on this disc, as on the original instrument, and the N for North indication has been replaced by a yellow triangle marker for reading the hours.
    • To allow the markers to stand out against the background, an airplane - identical to the one found on the original instrument - and yellow index marks are engraved under the glass.
    • The anti-glare, matt black carbon finish of the case is inspired by the color of an instrumentation panel, designed to make the dials easier to read by eliminating glare.
     


    The BR 01 Heading indicator is highly sophisticated. The technical challenge posed by its design and production required the collaboration of the best watchmaking engineers.
    • Since each disc weighs 30 times more than a watch hand, ultra light discs needed to be created in order to not reduce the power reserve nor the accuracy of the watch. Furthermore, each disc needed to be sufficiently resistant so as not to become deformed or risk any friction.
    This dual challenge has required the development of specific materials and new techniques.
    • As they rotate, an adjustment to the nearest micron ensures that the discs are constantly parallel. The accuracy of the assembly requires all the know-how of master watchmakers.

    Like the other two models, the BR01 Heading indicator is available ina limited edition of 999 pieces.

  • Bell & Ross - E-Boutique in the U.S


    The Swiss watch making firm announced that on 23 September, 10 AM, it will start to sell its watch collection online in the U.S. The new venture is a partnership between Bell & Ross and its U.S. retail network and follows closely behind the December 2009 opening of Bell & Ross' successful e-Boutique in Europe.


    CEO Carlos A. Rosillo described the opening as an "important strategic step that enables the brand to provide the same excellent service to our American customers that our European clients enjoy."

    • Give Bell & Ross a presence in geographical areas not covered by the retail network.

    • Fill the gap caused by the absence of an official online presence that leaves the brand vulnerable to unofficial and unauthorized points of sale.
