The ref. CK2998 Omega Speedmaster replaced the CK2915 in 1959. The two main characteristics of this model -the black bezel and the Alpha hands- were however already to be found on the latest generation of its predecessor: the CK2915-3.

Although official certification by NASA would take another few years, it must be noted that the CK2998 was in fact the first Speedmaster to be worn in space: it was Wally Schirra's personal watch on the Sigma 7 mission in October 1962. As such, it stood model for the 2012 'First Omega in Space' numbered edition.

I have really enjoyed this Omega watch. Yes, the actual face of the watch is small but I got past that because I love the design sparkle. And yes, it was a little tricky the first time I changed straps, but once I caught on, it is very easy. Like the fact that you have 3 choices of straps. They all look great. This was my first piece of jewelry.
