Glashutte Original - MusicFestival Award
Glashutte Original Managing Director Yann Gamard and the Director of the Dresden Music Festival, Jan Vogler, presented the award to Hilary Hahn during a concert in the Semperoper on June 4.
Hilary Hahn received the award, worth 25,000 euros, for her ability "to inspire young musicians with her intensive and uncompromising approach to making music." She was also chosen because "Hilary Hahn reaches young classical music fans outside the concert hall as well with her authentic, contemporary way of speaking. Her regular encounters with students and her highly popular social media projects are examples of this vibrant form of communication."
It is the 11th time that Glashutte Original has presented the prize, which is awarded for achievements in encouraging young musicians and promoting classical music education. Previous prize winners include renowned artistic personalities such as Gustavo Dudamel, Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic, Helene Grimaud and Thomas Quasthoff.
As in previous years, the Glashutte Original MusicFestival Award trophy was built by two apprentice watchmakers at the "Alfred Helwig School of Watchmaking" in Glashutte.
