Dior - History of the Brand
• 1946 : Designer Christian Dior opens his couture house at 30, avenue Montaigne in Paris.
• 1947 : Dior's first collection, the revolutionary, full-skirted "New Look", is a sensation.
• 1957 : Christian Dior appears on the cover of "Time" magazine, with his famous left-handed scissors. Christian Dior dies suddenly.
• 1958 : Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior's 21 year-old assistant, presents his first, highly applauded collection, the pyramid-shaped "Trapeze" line.
• 1960 : Marc Bohan is chosen as artistic director and presents his first collection, "Slim Look".
• 1975 : Beginning of Dior watches. Christian Dior is one of the first Fashion houses to take an interest in watchmaking.
• 1989 : Gianfranco Ferre succeeds Marc Bohan as Artistic Director.
• 1995 : Diana, Princess of Wales, confers iconic status onto the just-launched "Lady Dior" handbag by simply carrying it in her hand.
• 1996 : John Galliano is appointed Artistic Director of Women collections. For the House's 50th Anniversary, the exhibition "Christian Dior: 1947-1957" is organized at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art. Lady Diana, Princess of Wales, wears the first dress designed by John Galliano for Christian Dior.
• 1997 : John Galliano presents his first Haute Couture collection and creates sensation with his new version of the "New Look".
• 1998 : Birth of Dior Joaillerie. Victoire de Castellane is appointed Artistic Director.
• 2000 : Hedi Slimane is appointed Artistic Director of Dior Menswear.
• 2001 : The Dior house equips themselves with their own development and manufacture structure: Les Ateliers Horlogers Dior SA situated at La Chaux-de-Fonds in the cradle of Swiss watchmaking.
• 2003 : Launch of "La D de Dior", first watch designed by Victoire de Castellane.
• 2004 : Launch of "Chiffre Rouge", the first watch from the Men's universe. Chiffre Rouge combines the formal vocabulary of Dior Homme and its values of excellence through a collection of exclusively automatic movements.
• 2005 : The Fall Winter 2005/2006 Haute Couture fashion show is a tribute to Monsieur Dior on the occasion of his 100th birthday.
• 2005 : Launch of la Dior Christal. A couture fashion icon created by John Galliano, Dior Christal is a new twist on sapphire crystal, usually used for watch glass, as pyramids on the bracelet and in marquetry on the bezel.
• 2007 : Kris Van Assche is appointed Artistic Director of Dior menswear.
• 2007 : The Christian Dior fashion house celebrates it's 60th anniversary and inaugurate at the 30 avenue Montaigne its new concept of boutiques created by Peter Marino.
• 2008 : Launch of Dior Christal Tourbillon calibre, one of the grandest watchmaking complications associated with a new transparency thanks to sapphire crystal.
